ript create an XML file for the gallery to display. How can I update this to call a PHP script and then read the XML file that the PHP script creates?
I'm trying to pass on to my swf file the size of the document using javascript, flashvars, and swfobject. I've embedded my flash file using swfobject and used the generator that swfobject provides to declare the two flashvars. My index.html file looks like this:
ActionScript Code:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" lang="en" xml:lang="en">
<head>
[Code].....
flashv1 and flashv2 are the instance names of two dynamic text fields on the stage. For some reason, and I have been messing around with this all afternoon, I just cant get the flashVars to be retrieved by my code and be passed on to the text fields.
I have a main menubar.fla file, which has a document class on it linking to a menubar.as. the as3 file is just some simple Papervision3d stuff, and creates a few buttons on the stage from the library. Here you can see the project as it is now I am trying to make it so when your mouse leaves, the the head will tween back to facing forward. But to find the mouse leaveing, I am using the code found HERE In an FLA without a document class, it works fine, but when I add it to my menubar.fla I get the errors:
1046: Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant:
TextField.
1180: Call to a possibly undefined method addFrameScript.
The first one comes from the text box alone on the stage.I had a similar problem when adding the buttons, that eventually made me link them for actionscript and just create them directly in the AS file, because placing them on the stage threw similar errors. I would do that for this code too, but according to the source site, "This event is only available added to the stage."
I am a bit puzzled why this does not work when placed in my document class, but works when directly added a key frame in the Flash IDE.
ActionScript Code:
this['myVar1'] = new Object();
When within the document class I get this error when compiled,
ReferenceError: Error #1056: Cannot create property myVar1
I have tried the following but I still get an error.
ActionScript Code:
public static var root_Ref:Object;
root_Ref = root;
root_Ref['myVar1'] = new Object();
How I can load an external .txt document into a designated dynamic text box in my flash document. I've tried the two tutorials I could find on flashkit.com and neither of them worked for me. I did everything as told and still the text file didn't load. When I enter the actionscript into the editor, I'll click check syntax and I get an error!
Here's the code I have in the first frame of my actions layer:
stop();
loadText = new loadVars();
loadText.load("updates.txt");
//creating the loadVarsText function
loadText.onLoad = function() {
[Code] .....
Here's what the error is:
**Warning** Symbol=text, layer=actions,
frame=1:Line 2: The identifier 'loadVars' will not resolve to built-in object 'LoadVars' at runtime.
loadText = new loadVars();
Total ActionScript Errors: 1
Reported Errors: 1
I'm trying to access a text input that I've already placed on the stage (inside a movie clip) but with no luck.I've defined an instance name for this dynamic text field which is currentUserCount.I've got something like this set up in the document class actionscript file:
package {
import flash.events.Event;
import flash.net.URLLoader;
import flash.net.URLRequest;[code].......
What am I missing? When I run this I get:
1120: Access of undefined property currentUserCount.
1120: Access of undefined property movieClipName.
1119: Access of possibly undefined property movieClipName through a reference with static type flash.display:DisplayObject.
1120: Access of undefined property currentUserCount.
Can I set the style of another document from it's parent document? At the moment its giving me the error 1119: Access of possibly undefined property StyleManager through a reference with static type DesignCardForm.

View 2 RepliesI am dispatching an event from one document class and listening for it via another document class.My code in class A.
Code:
this.dispatchEvent(new MYEvent(MyEvent.APERTURE_DONE));
trace("Dispatching APERTURE_DONE");
my code in class B.
Code:
addEventListener(MyEvent.APERTURE_DONE, onDoorsOpen,true);

My listener is registering before the event is dispatched, based on my output window, however I never get the "Open Doors" trace statement to fire.
We have a requirement to show documents (if we have URL for a document) within Flash. We have a need use embedded document viewer for MS Office and PDF documents. Are there any Flash controls available to acheive this?
View 2 RepliesI have a FLA (say Main.FLA) document class with a child MovieClip on the stage: into the child MovieClip I load other swf files: each of the files contains its own Document Class (every swf is a somewhat independent application, say quizzes and so on).For some reason I must use the Main document class to store data (scores or so) from the child swfs loaded into the Main swf. HOW do I reference the Main class? I can't find a way.[code]and dispatch an Event this way from the loaded swf document class to the Main class:[code]Now, first of all I don't know if this could even work. Secondly, I tried to make it work by adding an event listener to my Main class but id did not work.

View 1 RepliesI looked online on how to reduce file size od an .fla file for use on the web but not very clear. I have an .FLA file that is 800X600 px. when I publish it, I reduce file size, audio to mono etc, and I am getting 1.8mb file, way to large for web use. I tried an swf and flv file but same results. I need to reduce the entire document. I read to use the onion skin the highlight everything then resize but I have over 5,000 frames in my movie. Can someone explain in detail, how to highlight all of the frames in the movie, and then reduce the file to say 400 X 300 px? I am able to drag the onion skin but only to the edge of the viewable document then I must scroll over and repeat the process. there must be an easier way to highlight all frames in the movie then resize the whole thing.

I want to know what is going on with my flash document where more of the document is showing than the document size. despite the little white box showing the size, if i set scaling to 100% it starts reaching past the boundaries. how can I get my flash doc to scale without viewing what is essentially outside of the frame?I am experimenting with getting my flash website to scale. I have tried a few things like SCALE="default" in the html and such. I want to try and keep the aspect and scale, but have a minimum size. For this I have been trying swffit.

View 2 RepliesWhen I open the Flash CS4 application, it starts up fine. If I select create new flash file, the entire application crashes. That's as far as I can get. I've made all of the recent updates that I can - it's flash version 10.0.2 ... I'm running OSX v10.4.11
I've tried restarting, that doesn't do anything. I've also tried starting up Flash with nothing else open. Haven't re-installed the entire thing yet (probably what I'll do next).

View 1 RepliesWhat I'm working on is a navigation bar populated by an XML document. I'm working from an existing navigation bar while I learn, and the existing bar has a menu, and when clicked each button has a sub menu. I'm trying to remove the submenu so that when you click the navigation bar button, you go to the address defined in the XML. So far I've got everything working so that there is no sub menu drop down, and when you click a button, you are taken to a URL defined in the actual flash AS file.
I can't seem to get the AS file to call on the XML file to the get a URL from it though. How do I tell the AS file to call a variable from the XML document? I know I have the correct Node path because it works in a second AS file.
