I was given the task of adding a preloader to an already existing flash website. The website is completely in flash. Each "page" is on a layer and are made of animated movie clips. It is a portfolio website, so some pages take a while to load up. That's where the preloader comes in. I want to put a preloader at the very beginning of the page that will play as the entire site is being loaded, so when the user clicks through, each page shows up quickly and seamlessly.
I have created a preloader in a separate flash file, but can not get it to work with the website. How do I combine these two files to work?
I'm basically a designer with no real programming background. I do understand some basic of AS2, but with AS3 I kinda have no clue. I wrote the fluid layout part based on the first tutorial link, and the preloader part based on the code found in preloader.fla in the second tutorial link. So now I have 2 seperated swf file, which is website.swf and preloader.swThe thing is that once the preloader is done and the website.swf is shown, the fluid layout code inside website.swf doesn't seem to work. Both files has the fluid layout code, and the code works when u open the file seperately, but when it's linked together the code just fails.here's the code on the preloader.fla:

The preloader works fine on Internet Explorer, however when I tested it in Mozilla and on a Mac (running Netscape) there is a lockup on the preloader. The screen will just sit there and the website doesn't load. Both were running Flash Player 6 which is the version I'm aiming for. I found that if I refreshed the page the site would begin to work, but I doubt visitors to my site would do this and I don't want it to be required to get my site to work. I have been designing a website for a client entirely on flash 8 and I am almost ready to hook it up with an actual host, right now it's just set up on yola, which is a free host so that my client can see all the changes i've made, to the design and information. But I tried to view the website on Internet Explorer and it doesn't work at all. It just shows that square circle and triangle in the top left hand corner. How can I fix this before I set it up perminatley?
View 3 RepliesI've created this simple website which consists of a 3d carousel style gallery of images. When I tested it locally everything worked perfectly, however, the version on the web-server is not working. The website is at dansawesomeweb. site11. com. I renamed the html file so you can browse the websites folders if you wish. After much testing I believe the problem of the website lies within me loading external images. You see two of the images(the only two that you can see) are loaded from the same domain and specifically the same directory as the website itself. It seems to be unable to load any image from any where else on the web.It could be to do with the image url's I used: i'm not entirely sure how they should be formatted? (As you can tell I'm not familiar with this kind of stuff) Do you think it's my host? -but from what I hear 000webhost does fully support flash. Or do you think it's purly how I programmed it in as?
The way the website works is that the base.swf loads the caro.swf. The caro.swf's doc class is CaroClass.as. The flash makes use of some custom classes that are in the class folders. The class called 'Obj' is an image holder movieclip that loads an image off the web into itself: These make up the carousel. There is also one class that is supposed to load a higher resolution of images when you click on one of the Obj's, and also show a description. The image url's, captions and descriptions are held in an xml document which is loaded by the caro.swf at the start. Just go to the webpage and click on the CaroData.xml for the XML.

The php file is called mail.php in the main directory of the site along with the swf file with the AS code loacted in it. Does the AS have to be in a separate file or can I leave that on the frame where the actually text boxes are?

View 10 RepliesI have tried putting fs command for full screen for my Flash site, but that only works if I open the SWF on its own.
If I try opening the Flash website thru my browser, a warning pops up that Flash is trying to comunicate with the browser.
I would like it when a person goes to the website, that the website will automatially open up as a full screen website. No tool bars, address, navigation etc., like a DVD movie. Just the whole screen covered by my Flash site and it does not rescale. The Flash site is the same size as if there is no full screen.

ive got other buttons with their own individual instance names and function names and such thought perhaps the buttons weren't working cause the objects don't exist, they're not loaded on the firstframe so the code is trying to reference something that but not sure how to get around this output window just says

I'm trying to create a preloader for a site I am creating. Originally I was going to make it an internal preloader, but I ran into that issue where the preloader doesn't start until 50% (or more). After searching these forums for a solution to "that" issue, I found it suggested that the best way to fix it is simply do an external preloader instead.
When testing the preloader using the bandwidth editor, I see that the preloader animation isn't starting now until it's at 100%, instead I simply get a white screen. Once it reaches 100% the preloader animation runs through and then...nothing. My main.swf doesn't load. It just stops.

preloader is my movieclip with the animation, and preloader.loading_txt is a textbox inside that mc which displays the % loaded. I wanted to make it so that once the preloader (and its animation) reach 100%, the preloader mc then plays frames 101 - 124 (which are a small transition animation into the main site). Once it reaches 124 it's supposed to call the main.swf to load.
I am trying to get a preloader to work properly. I have it setup so that when the movie gets to frame 19, it returns to frame 1 unless frame 20 is loaded.
I used this same preloader previously and it worked fine.

Thsi script is on the first frame( in the first frame is the movie clip i want for my preloader, second frame is a tween which has no stop at the end, so it goes to the main scene. Is there any thing wrong with this script? When this site was online, the preloader took a long time to come up, and it is only 28 kbs large... what can i do for this?
I have finally managed to get my automated slideshow to work using alpha tweens and a setInterval function, my next problem is that my preloader won't work, in fact I can't even get a static text box to display in the preloading frames. I'm trying to get a preload movie clip (loaderMovieClip_mc) to show up when an image is being pulled from the xml data bank and then turn the visibility to false when the image is done loading. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong any bump in the right direction would be very cool.

I have tried commenting out the imageLoader unload code but that didn't resolve the issue.
I have been building a website in dreamweaver, but have flash buttons which work fine. But the banner I have made in the page just has a white background. When I export it in flash it works, and when I preview in the dreamweaver browser it still works. I do not know what I have done wrong. Is the coding in the server wrong for the flash?
View 2 RepliesI am very new to flash and on the net I've found a class that allows me to use a nice scroll bar for the content. My problem is that I can't get a preloader working with the class. When I want to add scrips to the frames it bugs the class if I try to implement the preloader inside the class I can't get it working. I have a preloader and it works fine but as soon as I put a movie clip on to it it either does nor work or loads from 80% onwards.All I want is 1 timeline and then have a movie clip come in on frame 8 or so, but in the bandwith profiler it shows content loading in frame 1 when there is nothing there

I am working with Flash MX Professional 2004 on a mac running Tiger. I am near to finishing a fully flash based website.I am fairly new to Flash so experiencing a wee problem with my Preloader. The preloader is an animation in a movieclip that I have placed at the start of each scene that contains only one of my portfolio photos which once downloaded fades in and fades out. The Preloader tested in an isolated test scene on its own works fine, it is placed in frame 1 with the following actionscript 2 and a stop action placed in an actions layer. The downloading photo fade in starts in frame 2. When the user closes the photo it unloads it from the level it is in ready for the user to choose another photo which will go in to the same level.
Yet when the same scene is played back on its own level within the main website FLA it does work as an animation. Rather it stalls, blank to start with then at 50% download it goes straight to the 100% loaded part of the Preloader animation and stays like that until the photo has fully downloaded. It does this at all bandwidth tests and also does this when tested live once uploaded to server. It should animate smoothly up until the photo downloads. Very frustrating problem. I notice that the first frame of the scene has an unusually large size for some reason as the preloader is only 10kb in reality yet shows as 60kb, may be there is something going on here or perhaps it just needs the script changing slightly?[code]
