ActionScript 3.0 :: Text Formatted By User In External Files

Dec 13, 2009

A user, who is not familiar with html, wants to do very simple text formatting (font color, size, decoration) in external txt files that are to be loaded into Flash CS4 dynamic text fields. I know, some html tags can be used in txt files but the text becomes quite unclear. How is this issue usually coped with? Must the user learn a bit of html and use it or is there any other option?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Purepdf Has The Ability To Save Formatted Text From A User-inputted Text Field

Jun 15, 2011

I'm wondering if purepdf has the ability to save formatted text from a user-inputted text field. If so, how is this achieved? From what I understand, purepdf is basically iText, and I believe iText has the ability to parse HTML and save formatted text into a PDF. Does purepdf have that same functionality that I can tap into and plug in 'textfield.htmlText' somewhere?

IDE :: Using A Dynamic Text Field To Show Html Formatted Text From .txt Files

Apr 8, 2009

I am using a dynamic text field to show html formatted text from .txt files. I have set the html property both in the properties panel and in AS, and it mostly works. All html formatting show up just fine, except for when "&" is used. Flash CS3 documentation indicates that & is supported, so.? All text after the & does not appear: the only text loaded is that that comes before it. I am using CS3, AS2, publishing in Flash Player 9. Sorry if this problem has been addressed elsewhere, but I've had no luck with my searches.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Importing Variables (information) From User Maintained Text Files.?

Jun 17, 2009

i am making a quick and dirty flash help source for my companies site.  Later on i will tweak I will pretty it up. I am going with two movie clips that i believe will be sufficient for now as seen the layout below....[code]....

MC_1 :Is the selection menu.I want to import from a text file the different help sections or catagories....eg.. Setup, Administration, Customizing, etc......Then i want to import from text files that are labelled and corrisponding to each section that will list the actual different help selections...eg..(Setup) would have sub menu options of System Requirements,Server Install, Client Install.I would have these sub menus in listed in different text files for each section heading.

MC_2 :Then when somene clicks on the submenu options like 'Server Install' in the given example Movie Clip 2 would import from yet another text file the actual help information in an HTML format

Questions:For MC_1 I am not sure how I should go about creating it!I assume I will be creating a MC inside of it, one for each variable it pulls in from the Header.txt file.....how do i do that when the number of variables can change?And then it will pull in and create the sub menus one for each variable that it finds in its own text file, again the number can change?From there i should have no problems having the sub menu, when clicked on, would pull the text info in html format into MC_2.

ActionScript 2.0 :: External Text Files Wont Load Into External Swf File?

May 28, 2007

Structure: There is 1 main file that loads external SWF files depending on what is clicked on.One of the external SWF files loads its text from external text files. This works fine when viewing the SWF applet on its own. But when viewing as a whole site, the text doesnt appear. Very annoying.I made that particular SWF on my mums computer running Flash MX 2004The flash file itself uses the Scrollbar component from MX.Could someone tell me why the text doesnt load in this scenario? It runs fine on its own, just not as an external SWF.

Professional :: Formatted Text In Text Area Component?

Jul 24, 2010

I am trying to display an HTML formated file in the text Area.It should be straightforward task using the following code:

//----------load text file------------------
var loader1:URLLoader =new URLLoader();loader1.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE,displayText);[code].....

This uses a text area component dragged to stage and named myCV_TA. No text is displayed with that code.It does work when an ordinary text is used and myCV_TA.html/text is changed to myCV_TA.text.Tried many things and decided to live with the simple text file and apply some formating to it://----create textformat object

var mytextformat:TextFormat = new TextFormat();mytextformat.font = "verdana";mytextformat.size = 16;mytextformat.color = 0x006600;[code]....

This code does not apply any formating, the simple text file is displayed but without any formating .

I know how to load external text files in AS3 but I want the user to be able to do it from within my excited swf file. The obvious way to do this is to load the text file  using a string from a dynamic text field (e.g: "myfile/myTextFeild.txt") but i want it to be more user friendly.If you click file open in Microsoft word, for example, you get the user friendly open box where you can find the file you want to load by browsing through your hard-drive.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Embedding Text Formatted Via CSS?

Jul 28, 2010

So this code works fine in terms of rendering and formatting text:

PHP Code:

var ss:StyleSheet = new StyleSheet();
var H1:Object = new Object();
H1.fontSize = 24;

[Code]....

But the fonts are not embedded. If I want to reduce the textfield's alpha or rotate it or some such operation, I need to embed the fonts.

If I uncomment tf.embedFonts = true; then the text disappears.

So what's the next step? I'm familiar with various ways of embedding fonts --using fontName with a Library font, or embedding using the Flex SDK in FlashDevelop. But I don't know how to approach either of those in the case of text formatted via CSS.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Scrolling HTML Formatted Text In Flash

Jan 13, 2009

I'm using the techniques discussed in this thread on ActionScript.org to load formatted HTML text into flash. I also want to scroll said text, and for that purpose I'd like to use Flashscaper's scrollbar. I've run into a bit of a snag, however.

The text displays fine. However, the scrollbar does not appear when initiated and the mask (a red rectangle) can be seen on the right side of the content area; not the entire thing, just a red area about 5-10 pixels wide. The text can be scrolled using the mouse wheel, so the scrollbar functionality is intact. I think this has something to do with the transition within the ContentText function, but when I comment that out, the text doesn't display at all, nor does the scrollbar. Listed below are the three components to this project.

ContentText.as:

Code:
package
{
import flash.display.MovieClip;

[Code].....

As an update, I did get this sort of working by adding a button that brings in the scrollbar as a separate function. This works after the text's transition has completed. Perhaps I can simply tie the scrollbar function to a timer that fires when the text begins to load?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Uploading Local Files Without Requiring User To Select Files?

Feb 3, 2009

My users upload a certain kind of text file that sometimeshas references to images stored locally on their hard drive. I needto check this file either on the server or within a flash app tosee if it has these references and then grab those images in aflash app to upload to my server.So I can use FileReference easily enough to have users uploadlocal images. But FileReference requires users to select their files with a dialog box. I can't have that. Myusers wouldn't know where to look and there are typically way toomany files, sometimes with the same name but in differentdirectories.

I can also just use URLLoader with a local URL, I guess I canprobably just use Loader too? That works great. The problem here isI can't communicate with both the server and the local filesystemin the same flash application due to Flash's security sandboxrestrictions. So I can get out of those security restrictions byplacing or editing a trust file in designated locations on variousOSes. I then need to install this trust file which is more invasiveand confusing to users then I want to be...Java's method of accessing local files from a web applet bysimply signing the applet with a certificate and having a dialogbox popup where the users grants access is ideal. Is there anything

ActionScript 2.0 :: Using HTML Or TXT For External Text Files

Jun 12, 2006

I am having a couple of issues with dynamic text. I am loading fairly simple text documents, but am ending up with some font oddness. For example, I am using plain Arial in the CSS but am ending up with words running together. In the word "Oxygen" the "Oxy" letter spacing is really tight. Do I have something odd in the CSS? Here it is:

[Code]...

Pretty straightforward so I can't figure out why things look bad. Would embedding the font, even if it's arial, make any difference? How does that work in the code? I tried using the embedFonts = true; but that didn't seem to really do anything. So I'm thinking that perhaps I should be loading HTML or something for these external text files. These aren't huge, but several of them contain listings, headline, main body copy, sub head - the typical sort of thing on would find in a text file. Is there a good primer out there as to what works with CSS and text files or different ways of getting text files into Flash?

[Code]...
