ActionScript 3.0 :: Unique Names For TextField Created In For Each Loop?
Jun 23, 2010
I have an for each loop that creates a new textField for each item and I need to know how you can give each textField a unique name so it can be targeted later on.Here is the relevent code:
Code:
var i:int = 1;
for each (var titleElement:XML in titleList) {
am trying to load xml and make button for its length, and try to make function for each button i have i make buttons and i give them a unique name , but i can't make function for every one?here is the code
///////////////////////////// var xmlLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();var my_Arr:Array= new Array();var arr_posX:Array =new Array();//= ["350","350","350","350"]var arr_posY:Array=new Array();//= ["80","120","160","200"]xmlLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, showXML);xmlLoader.load(new URLRequest("Models.xml"));function showXML(e:Event):void { XML.ignoreWhitespace = true; var songs:XML = new XML(e.target.data);
im trying to load xml and make button for its length, and try to make function for each button i have i make buttons and i give them a unique name , but i can't make function for every one ?
///////////////////////////// var xmlLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();var my_Arr:Array= new Array();var arr_posX:Array =new Array();//= ["350","350","350","350"]var arr_posY:Array=new Array();//= ["80","120","160","200"]xmlLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, showXML);xmlLoader.load(new URLRequest("Models.xml"));function showXML(e:Event):void { XML.ignoreWhitespace = true; var songs:XML = new XML(e.target.data);
I want to create object instances based on user input but I can't figure out how to get a unique variable name for each instance (I want to be able to get at and manipulate them later). In other languages I would usually just use an eval() function to pull this off.
[Code]....
Code: 1119: Access of possibly undefined property charlie through a reference with static type poundConuter. poundConuter.mxml
I'm currently making a TicTacToe game to help build my Flash experience and I've come across an issue. I'll try and explain what everything is doing in my code thus far. I know it's a lot of code for a forum post, but I don't want to leave anything out as someone may have a really nice way to work with this.
Code: this will be switched to a user defined value (1 or 2), depending on which person the user decides should go first. currently it is set up for the 2nd player to go first
new _global.whosTurn(); _global.whosTurn = 2;
//this sets all cells DISABLED so, at the beginning of the game, any cell is selectable cell1_isUsed = false; cell2_isUsed = false;[code].....
What I'm trying to do is setup a function that shoots through a set of buttons within a subset and creates click code for these buttons.
THe three variables are the identifiers for the actual keyframe i wish to jump to, the movieclip in which i want to perform the action and the actual button to go to the right frame.
Presently the problem I'm having is that the variables aren't stored when the onRelease functions are created, so they all are just calling the LAST variables declared.
Here's a sample of the code I currently have
Code: //function to load canvas/acrylic function setSwatches(mySwatchCount:Number, myContainer:String) {
I am trying to use the NumericStepper component in Flex and would like to give its textField (not just the whole thing) an id but not sure how. I have already given an id to the NumericStepper itself but would like to give an id to its textInput field.
Is it possible to load text into a dynamic text field, and if yes how could I do this? I've searched a few tutorials on dynamic text fields but it concentrates on scrolling. I would like unique text to load in the dynamic text field depending on which navigation button I click on. (i.e. I click on "button1" and "blabla1" text appears in the text field. I click on "button2" and blabla2" text appears in the same text field.)
I have a for loop that runs depending on the length of an XML file. What I want to do is create a unique text field for each run through of the loop, and give it it's own position on the stage, and finally assign it the text from an external text file that is specified in the XML file. Everything I know how to do except creating the textfields.
Quote:
for(var i:int = 0; i < blogXMLList.length(); i++) { var txtHolder:TextField = new TextField(); txtHolder.x = textX;
[Code].....
This code creates only one Text Field, but then replaces it's text with new text with each run through.
At the moment I have this in Actionscript (for Flex) to create 26 labels in a BorderContainer (ID letters):
[Code]...
But when I click on a letter, only the letter Z is sent to the function getUsers. So when I'm creating labels from a for loop, only the eventlistener works for the last created label. How do I fix this?
Is there a way to obtain a reference name of each item on the stage. A reference name that can be then used to manipulate the object? (and how would one do that if successful in obtaining the name?)
As an example that is not working for me, if I drag to stage two movie clips and dynamically include 5 additional movie clips at runtime, this [code]...
how to control dynamically created clips... What I've got is a series of objects on the stage, that have been created using an external xml file. here's the code for this...
Code: Select allfor each (var MenuItem:XML in myXML..MenuItem) {
code for setting the clips on the stage, positioning them, etc, } But what that doesn't do is give each clip an individual instance name, so I've no way of controlling them on the stage? I presume I need to create a variable and then loop through the MenuItem xml assigning a unique instance as it goes through it?
I am trying to use a for loop, to place 5 instances of the same movieclip on the stage. In the loop I used .name to give each movieclip a unique instance name. But when I try to reference one of those instance names in an event listener I get an error. Here is an example of what I am trying to do:
Quote:
var xPos:int = 120; var yPos:int = 60; for (var i:Number = 1; i<=5; i++) {
[Code].....
This code generates an error saying that the cStar2 property is undefined. In the example above, does the for loop create 5 copies of the movieclip starC_moov, and give them unique instance names cStar1, cStar2, cStar3, cStar4 and cStar5?
I am trying to use a for loop, to place 5 instances of the same movieclip on the stage. In the loop I used .name to give each movieclip a unique instance name. But when I try to reference one of those instance names in an event listener I get an error. [code]...
i was searching for the solution all over the internet but could not find the way to solve this problem . I have a loop in which i want to assign one property value ( in this case value of several numeric stepper components) to one array spot. Unfortunetaly i cant figure out how to change the property name acording to number of the loop. Here is an example.
I have 8 text boxes (called h1, h2 etc) that I want to do things with, the code below is just to make them all invisible when the movie loads,this works:
for (b=1; b<9; b++) { _root["h"+b]._visible = false; }
I'm trying to imitate the spining preloader that fades as it rotates and I can't remember how to name each of the lines that are created with this code so I can later add the script to modifiy their independent alpha as it turns.
I don't know wether I need to create another function or what to do...
var numLines:Number = 12; var extRadAsterisc:Number = 20; var intRadAsterisc:Number = 10; var centreX:Number = 110;
Is it possible to add a textField dynamically but have different instance name each time this is created? In other words if I have a button that whenever its click it will add a textField to the stage and assigns a new instance each time this is added.
ActionScript Code: button.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, addField); var inputWidth = 200; var inputHeight = 20; function addField(event:MouseEvent):void{ [Code] .....
Something like this but instead of textFieldName this would be different each time.
I have a few functions that accept several parameters. [code]...
Is there a way to loop through all the params (without knowing how many or their names) and put them in some kind of an array with their names, so I'd get an associative array [code]...
how could I make a simple loop which loops through the childrens of specific movie clip and add each of them instance name lets say "iname", since I have movie clip in which childrens are not added by code.
And if I'm sure I could acces those childrens then by code like iname.x = 100?
ActionScript Code: for(var i:int = 0; i<numBtn; i++) { var this['menuBtn'+i] = new Sprite(); }
This doesn't work, saying I need an identifier before 'this'.
What I am trying to do is to make a dynamic menu, and the number of buttons depend on how many files there are in a directory, as each button links to each file;I get this value (numBtn in my example) from a php script, and I need to make a menu depending on it, but I can't seem to make it so that when I add a new file into that directory, a new button comes up on the menu and I don't have to change my flash file.
I have a few MCs named fruit1, fruit2, fruit3, all instanced off a MC...I would like to loop to shorten my code and just loop through and stop all of them at once... My Code:
for (var i:Number=1; i<=7;i++){ fruit[i].stop(); }
I get an 1120: Access of undefined property fruit.I want the result of my loop to do:
[code]I've tried some various things (including "this"), but basically, I need to loop through data held in arrays to create several dynamically named functions on the the fly.
