Jan 7, 2009I have been working on resolving a TypeError: Error #1007: Instantiation attempted on a non-constructor in Flash CS 4 / AS 3.0 .I decompiled a file for a client because the original developer did not leave the .fla file.... so i am stuck with a bunch of weird syntax and playing guess ...Here is the Error message in its entirety :

Nov 21, 2011what i'm trying to do is get a movie to duplicate movieclips when the original movieclip is dropped onto a target.what it does is,
1. click, drag movie clip to target.
2. drop, released.
3. duplicate movieclip appears in the ORIGINAL position from where the original movieclip was picked up.
4. and keep the dropped movieclip in place.
i don't know why i get,

May 8, 2010I have an image gallery with thumbnails and a previous button and next button. "nextPrevPosition:Number" starts out with the value of 0 and increases or decreases by 1 every-time the previous or next buttons are pressed. The thumbnails assign a value when those are pressed:

all works fine except when NextPrevPosition reaches the original value 0...and this is when I get the error message. It looks like the line "currentPort = new(POSITION[nextPrevPosition] as Class)(); is when it is happening.

Sep 4, 2010first it might be valuable to mention that i have a one document class and a child of that class, which is the one im having problems with. My library objects is added to the stage perfectly, but after i wrote the last code (in bold), i get:

Actionscript 3 :: Differences Between Variable Instantiation Outside Constructor And In?
Dec 19, 2010I found two difference that I feel might be important:
-If I decide to put the variables within a constructor, then I must have an object parameter for any function that wish to alter the variables, even if the code is internal to the class.
-Subclassing would cause the variables to not appear, something that causes problems when the class and any subclasses must have the variables in order to operate properly.

Random number is of course a random number no higher than the array length.
However, Chosen sound is always "null". Should I worry here?

Apr 7, 2009I am new to AS3 and writing classes and keep having a hard time with these error messages I am getting. I have the following AS:

} .... etc.
The class works fine, except when I try to set the alpha to 30% in the constructor function, I get this error in the output window.
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
at _classes::PrevNextNav()
at InteractivePilotDocument()
If I comment that line out, all is good. What does this mean?

Jun 15, 2011I'm trying to have a class file which can add objects to the stage via addChild; however, when I call addChild from within the class file, I get the error "1180: Call to a possibly undefined method addChild." I've tried importing flash.display.* and that doesn't fix the problem. Does the class file have to extend Sprite or MovieClip to be able to add objects to the stage?

Feb 28, 2010Starting new thread for this topic as suggested by forum. I have a website which tweens movieclip pages (named home, bio, music, video and contact). Love the effect and trying to keep it. Main timeline contains the main buttons (home_btn, bio_btn, music btn, video_btn, contact_btn). Music page has a XML mp3 player contained in it with button control. Video page has an encoded video with no code.
I need the following:
1 - Music and video to shut off as those pages/movieclips tween off the stage. Gets annoying with them playing especially at the same time
2 - Music player to play correctly. It is not with the new code.
I have the following code. The "Tween Code" is on frame 1 of the main timeline of the movie. The "MP3 code" is on frame 1 of the music movie clip. I am getting the following ERROR message when running my movie. I ran the Debugger as I publish and it points to music.my_channel.stop(); in below code. My thought process on this was that it would reach out to the music movieclip, find my_channel and stop it.

There is no single main timeline, but click actions on different areas of seperate movie clips will take them between oneanother.All the AS logic of event handling are written inline in FLA , no seperate Document class exists.
Preloader Movie clip is the first one getting loaded. As i understood the error is getting thrown initially itself, and it is not happening due to any Action script logic written inline, because it is throwing error even before hitting the first inline AS code.I am not able to figure Out what exactly it causing the problem, or where to resolve it. Oct 8, 2009#1006: value is not a function. at MethodInfo-43() I don't know what the problem is, or where could it be, here is the problem code, but first a brief description: Every 3 seconds 3 enemies will be created with a random position, the enemies can't be appearing on top of the other so I check if they collide with any previously added enemies, if they do I assign other random coordinates and check again until there is no collision (I'm using the collision detection kit CDK for the collisions[URL]..the first 3 enemies appear correctly but afterwards the error appears and the next time the program enters the generation part the enemies begin appearing in ridiculous numbers.
