ActionScript 3.0 :: Correct Syntax To AddChild() Using Array Index

Jul 27, 2009

I'm using addChild(new nmonster()) to populate an on stage MC from my Library.

Instead of specifying the Symbol, I want to add it using an Array reference, like addChild(new monsterArray[0]()). I've tried a number of variations, but AS3.0 is unforgiving.

Flash :: Get The Specific Array Index Based On Value Inside The Index's Object?

Jun 22, 2011

So, for sending to individual streams we have to reference the connected netStream we want to send to in some way like this:

sendStream.peerStreams[0].send("MyFunction",param1,param2);

and I have to determine which peer I'm sending to by their ID such as "peerID1234"

I know that you can check the peerID of the stream by doing:

sendStream.peerStreams[0]["farID"]

how can I make my send stream function know to use the array index where the peerID is?

so basically it could be like:

sendStream.peerStreams[where peerStreams[]["farID"] == peerID].send("MyFunction",param1,param2);

Flex :: Index Syntax ('content['xxx']") For Accessing Members Of .SWF?

Dec 14, 2010

I was actually looking for the adobe docs online that would cover syntax like the following:

SWFLoader(event.target).content['wrFont']

That's from my own code, so obivously I know it works, its just that after 2 years of Flex programming, I have still not encountered any sort of formal documentation on the rules governing this access method (i.e. like in the above where I'm accessing the wrFont member of the loaded SWF via an array index syntax and a string.

Specifically, it would be things like, determining if the referenced member even exists - what would be the standard method for doing that (Surely not just a try-catch block right?). But not just that, but formal Adobe Documentation on all relevant aspects of the above. I've downloaded all zipped adobe docs off of their live docs site - where is all this fully documented.ON a side note, something that's always bugged me about google, is that with a search string like ".content[" it just ignores the "[" character as irrelevant, though if I could just find that search string I would have my answer. But google doesnt search for characters like "[" evidently. Neither does Bing. Does any search engine do this.

ActionScript 3.0 :: XML Image Gallery Other Times It Will Find The Correct Index And Work Properly

I'm working on my website which is a portfolio site, to showcase my work I have a basic XML image gallery which does 1 of 3 things loads a large photo, goes to a frame with a video player, or goes to another frame with a gallery of web design or flash work i've done. when a thumb is clicked i trace the indexOf(event.target) of the thumbnail clicked (all thumbnails are placed into an array).

the problem is that for some reason randomly the index will not be found and return -1, but then other times it will find the correct index and work properly. i don't know what the inconstancy is thats causing this to occur

ActionScript 2.0 :: Array Syntax Error Or Sheer Impossibility?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Loading External Data To An Array Syntax Error?

Jan 25, 2009

I'm trying to load data from an external text file into an array. I created an array and am able to load the data into an array if I explicitly say something like

ActionScript Code:
array[0] = event.target.data.uid1_name;

I can then do a trace statement on array[0] and it will output the correct name from the file. My problem is I'm trying to iterate through the variable names in the text file in the file by using an index variable. This is the code I'm using after doing all the URLloader, URLRequest, and so forth stuff:

ActionScript Code:
for(var i = 0; i<20;i++){
fArray
= event.target.data.uid_name;
}

This produces a syntax error. I've tried several other syntax variations but haven't been able to figure it out. I've also tried the following:

fArray
= event.target.data["uid"+i+"_name"];
fArray = event.target.data.["uid"+i+"_name"];
fArray
= event.target.data."uid"+i+"_name";

All three of those also give me errors. For the first one the trace statement outputs "undefinded" instead of "Doug". For the second I get "syntax error. Expecting identifier before left bracket". And for the third I get "syntax error, expecting identifer before uid.":

syntax to iterate the number after uid(uid1_name, uid2_name, uid3_name, etc)?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Array Syntax Object Reference In Loop Takes 4 Seconds To Run?

Nov 9, 2010

Can anyone tell me why the following is taking 4 seconds for Flash to execute:

_moleHoles = new Array();
var countingMoleHoles:Boolean   = true;
var holeCount:int               = 0;

[Code].....

There are 9 object on the stage (but this number could go up or down, that is why I'm dynamically grabbing these this way). So in my test case, this loop runs 10 times.

I have narrowed it down to something to do with the following line:

if (this['moleHole' + holeCount])

Is using dynamic (array syntax) object lookup that much of a performance hit?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Getting An Array's Index?

Jan 18, 2011

I have a game map made of tiles, each tile is stored in an array called _tiles.The very each tile has a "plantable" parameter, which determines whether or not something can be placed on it.Then i loop through the array and check the position of each its elements against the mosue cursor, so I know which tile am I hovering with my mouse.

And it works pretty good. The problem is that even though I know what is the position of the tile I'm having the cursor on, I still lack the knowledge of what index is that tile. I simply can't tell where exactly in the array is placed this tile. I just know its position. The reason why I want to know the index of it, is because it's the only way for me to set a proper flag, namely whether it's plantable or not. Here's the code:

ActionScript Code:
for(var j:int = 0; j < _tiles.length; j++)
