Ok so i was bored and my Php web site looked very shabby, so i thought i would jazz it up a bit and do a flash version!! after a while, after using pro version i felt something was missing and then i found Flash catalyst, 120 hours later with a mixture of photoshop and catalyst i had built my amazing web site all good. Now just had to link up my mysql server and link the Php code to the components! So then i found Flash builder and told it i was using Php got it talking to mysql all good.

I am trying to find a way to make a hyperlink out of a word that is being used in a dataList. In my script below, I have 5 columns (eventually, I will hide the url column)

using datalist and button from components library. If the datalist is not selected and user pushes button I want it to do nothing, right now if user has not clicked on datalist for selection and clicks the button it takes them to www.domain.com/undefined. I am trying to run it like so with a setFocus so it will highlight datalist if not selected:

On the mxmlc command line, I can include paths to RSL files. I can choose to link these RSLs at runtime by setting
-static-link-runtime-shared-libraries=false What if I need to link to some rsls and embed (static-link) other rsls? Is there a way to set the link settings for each rsl?

I am using FB for PHP 4.5, ZendAMF, and I read that I do not need to use HTTPService for what I want to do.
Table structure:
people: {pID, pName}
departments: {deptID, deptName}
people_departments: {pID, deptName}
I have a slightly complex flex script, People.mxml. In the PersonAdd state, I have a form which will be used to send data to the mysql server. In that form , I have a repeater that will create a checkbox for every department in my database. When I click the Add button, I want to insert data into the people and people_departments tables.

[Edit] I am using an s:Checkbox and I do not have the data property. mx:Checkbox does but I cannot use the mx:Checkbox component in my project.

A project of mine involves a flash movie (.swf) in a webpage, where the user has to pick from a number of items, and has the option to thumbs up or thumbs down (vote on) each item.So far I have gotten this to work during each run of the application, as it is currently loading the data from an XML file - and the data is still static at the moment.I need to persist these votes on the server using a database (mySQL), such that when the page is reloaded, the votes aren't forgotten.Has anyone done this sort of thing before?The two mains methods that I have found on the 'net areeither direct communication between AS3 and the SQL using some sort of framework, orpassing the SQL query to a PHP file, which then executes the SQL query and returns the SQL to AS3.
Which of these methods is the better option?For the latter method (involving PHP), I have been able to find resources on how to acheive this when attempting to retrieve information from the database (i.e. a read operation), but not when attempting to send information to the database (i.e. a write operation, which is needed when the users vote). I'm having a little trouble with the 3. I'm trying to use a URLRequest to get login information from the mySql server. It works great when I try to log in, but if anyone else from outside my network tries to log in, it just hangs. I'm on port 8080 using localhost. I've even tried changing everything to my IP address instead of localhost and allowing my tester to try, but it still hangs.

First: I want to create a sort of webshop and I want to create a MySQL database in which people can sign up/log in.How can I create this in FlashMX + PHP + MySQL.I want people to log in, sign up and the database should register what people bought the last time(s) they visited.
Now for my second question:For this shop I have a section on the homepage with news.This sections needs to display the news and have a link to the archives.Each newsitem is an images that contains the news.How can I make Flash loads in the news dynamicaly and let Flash detect if there is an archive (archive = more than 3 newsitems in folder) and if there is one, display it?

I create a Flex application that works with a browser using a database with the MySQL server that I can create, modify and delete data from a database. The problem I encounter now is that I want to see my program with Adobe AIR (virtual machine). At the display that does not pose a problem. I have a typical Flex-based application that was written to use a Java/Hibernate/MySQL backend. The client changed the requirements - now they want to distribute it on a CD where the user can just run the app without any installation or a network connection.
To do this, I certainly need to eliminate the web server and the database server and adapt my application (with as few changes as possible, of course) to a stand-alone application that will fit on a CD/DVD. I've managed to export the data to XML and read it into Flex, but I'm wondering if there's a way to recreate the Hibernate data structures in Flex so I could change as little code as possible. Failing that, is there any way to keep the existing Java/Hibernate external to the Flex code but retrievable without installing Apache Tomcat or MySQL?

By the way I'm still really new to Flash and AS3.I'm writing this quiz that gets questions and answers from an xml file in the same directory and displays the question in a TextArea, the available answers in a list, and additional text in another text area.Most of it was working the way I wanted and I noticed the apostrophes weren't coming through the XML so I thought I'd try escaping it with a not thinking. I did a publish preview and saw that my list loop became infinite populating my answer list. I took the out and still had the same problem. I backed out as far as I could in the AS3 and couldn't find anything that would cause it to continually loop like that. I traced a statement at the beginning of the script and realized it was actually looping the whole app not just an event or function. I'll reply back with the code.

i made two buttons, first called buttonA and the second buttonB.each button will run a movieclip when it's clicked now, the first time when i try it it works wonderfull, then when i keep clicking it, the scrips repeats causing the moviclips to pause or run again, the more i click the more it repeats ,

I have a simple mp3 player, with PLAY PAUSE PREVIOUS and NEXT buttons. the problem i have is if you click the play button more than once, the mp3 clip will start to play itself as many times as you clicked. this sounds really bad..u could have the clip playing over itself 5 times.

So, I downloaded a simple sound loop from Flash Kit.
I am building a Flash webiste and want the sound to loop once the movie loads. I have added a stop and play button to the movie in case the viewer doesn't want the sound on. I understand sound can be annoying.
I add the following code to the FRAME 1 of the movie. Everything works fine but when the loop finishes, it just stops. How do I get it to continue looping? Also, as I navigate to other sections of the movie.. I want it to continue playing and not restart when I go back to say "Home". Home starts at frame 1 as well.[code]...

I'm just starting to learn to make my own functions and was trying to make a walk sequence. My original program used an elaborate series of counters and onEnterframe, but I want to take a different route (basically starting from scratch) because my walk sequences always turned the avatars into picasso paintings when two or more keys were pressed simultaneously. I'm more familiar now with set and clear timeout, but what do I do if I want a specific sequence to count up, then down, or rotate back and forth, like the pendulum of a clock? starting with a basic function like function walk(bodypart){bodypart._rotation += 45;}. if (keyUsed == 68){walk(square_mc);} what do I have to change so the square rotates back and forth +/- 45 degrees while depressed?
