Oct 11, 2011After moving from Windows XP to Windows 7 noticed this behavior in my Flex application. In IE8 when a user clicks on a link in the SWF file it uses the navigateToUrl api to open a new window pointing to an external site. This works as expected in XP on IE8 . However in Windows 7 clicking the link will open a new tab, this new tab however sits in the background therefore it is possible that it may not be noticed by the user. Also the content in this background tab does not always load fully unless you clear the cache. Has anyone come across this issue with Flex and Windows7/IE8? In the navigateToUrl function i pass in a param of _blank.

Jul 25, 2009I have a .swf I'm inserting at the top of a page in DW. I have a button named "aboutUs_btn" which when pressed needs to load "aboutUs.html. That part works fine, but it always loads the page into a new window. How do I make it load into the same window? I could do this in AS2 with getURL and using _self. Here is what I have:

ActionScript 2.0 :: HTML Page Opens Flash Site - Loads External Swf File
Jul 11, 2005I have an HTML page with buttons. Each button needs to have a getURL to open the Flash site, but then somehow, needs to also load the appropriate swf into that Flash site... My reasoning is because I have some scripts under my site that need to be in HTML (or PHP) for search engines, that way I don't have to do the whole site in HTML.. I hate having a HTML index page, but it's the only solution I could come up with. So, when a visitor selects any of the navigation buttons, I don't want them to have to select that button again, when the Flash site loads. how to do this for Flash 7 / AS 2.0? Or if there are any posts here about it?

Jul 17, 2009I have a movie and after the intro the enter button takes me to the next frame (11) and stops. there i have a drop down menu with button instances on each of the drop downs. The drop down is in a movie clip so i am using on (release) {_root.gotoAndPlay("s1"); } on the button instances to take me to root level to say frame 12 and stops. Each button instance has a different frame label to go to, s1, s2 etc - the idea being that back at root level i can have the content of each of the buttons on each of the frame labels (s1 at frame 12 , s2 at frame 13 etc) .... this works fine except the drop down menu in each of these new frames retains the action script on the drop down button instances - this is fine for all the buttons that will take me to another content page at root level - what i dont want is the AS to remain on the button for the page i am currently on - cos if you click on it it takes you back through the intro etc to get to its frame label again .

May 24, 2004I'm looking to create a popup which opens a "template" html page with an image placeholder. This way you should be able to send a variable from the swf and open up the same html page each time but the image would change as you change the variable from the flash button.
Basically I have flash page containing various thumbnails and when clicked, each one will open a larger version, but I dont want to make a html page for each one so rather 'send' the filename to the html page if this is possible?

Jun 16, 2011I have a project set up as scenes.In scene 1 there are two buttons visible from the frame 1licking on these takes us to scene 3 or 4. They work fine. I used code snippet "Click to Go to Scene and Play" the action script is on a keyframe on frame 1 as that is the first frame the buttons appear.From frame 120 a third button appears. So on this frame I have actionscript go to and play scene 5.Problem is it goes to scene 3 instead, like the firstbutton. The buttons are not near each other on screen so its not a case of accidentally clicking wrong button.I think maybe I should've set up my project as movie clips within 1 timeline but I'm too far down the scene route now to change it at this stage.the buttons are all invisible so maybe the third button should also be present from frame 1 and just disabled until frame 120?

Jul 13, 2009I have a timer on my main flash document, and a package class that opens a MovieClip on a button click.
I want to stop the timer when the user starts the movieclip and then restart it when they close the movieclip. I don't know how to send information back to the main flash document from the package though.
Calling an object's method from the main flash doc is object.method(); But I need to do the reverse. I know this a low level super easy question, but I cant find the answer. Something like _MainDocument.function(); would be my guess. Or is there a addEventListener(class Deconstructs, doSomethig) ?

Jul 30, 2003i have some preloader frustrations..dont point me to a previous preloader thread...i have been there already and no im not talking about any preloader that loads the WHOLE movie at the beginning, i know how those work... I need a tutorial/explanation that will teach me how to load a move 'button by button' or 'page by page'.
By this I mean, the first thing the movie will do is load the first 'page' and say you have a few more buttons on that 'page'. It loads all the buttons and that 'page' first..nothing else...then i click one of the buttons (no matter what order) and the 'page' switches to a preloader and then when the second 'page' is loaded, it is displayed.So many sites have this kind of preloader...but i cant believe how many tutorial sites only teach how to program the type of preloader that just loads the WHOLE movie.

Aug 21, 2011I created a simple button that displays an error messeage: "error opening 'url" when I test the movie, but does play and opens in browser after publishing. However, it won't open in the browser in a different location. I pasted the html code in a web page but it doesn't work there nor opens in the browser in a differnet location from where it was originally published and saved. Why is that?

Jan 26, 2009i'm trying to build a flash site and ran into a problem... i have a gallery page with a bunch of page numbers at the top. when you click on one, a movieclip loads of some images coming in.so the problem i'm having is that i made a little animation for when you roll the mouse over the page number (they scale up when the mouse is over, scale back when the cursor moves away)... what it's doing is when you roll over, it goes to a certain frame in the timeline and plays that animation.that's all working cool, but i need it to not do that once it's clicked on. so basically when you actually click on a page number, the over script should stop until you go to another page... here's the code i've written,
