I was trying some stuff with masking. I have a shape on one layer. And there is another layer which acts as mask for first one. In the mask layer, I keep adding a graphic symbol to be able to reveal first layer's portions.
This is not working.
I am attaching my fla for your reference.
Please let me know what am I doing wrong.
Interestingly, if I use just shapes instead of graphic-symbol in the mask layer, it is working fine. Why is so?
Anyone has had white vertical lines along one or both sides of their masks?Looking for the lines and can't find them (Mask are made in the visual interface). The mask is a black rectangle, it moves over a 2 black rectangles, one 100% alpha, the other one 35% alpha. White lines only show on 35% alpha part.
I have a drawn sprite- a sine wave to be exact, which is behind a layers of dynamic masks. i need to have this wave shown in different color ranges as per the amplitude.
this wave updates dynamically based on values so am trying to use something like blend mode or transparency to set the color range instead of computing it which will make it an expensive process.
how can i color different parts of the wave based on its height/amplitude range?
i'm making a game and i don't know what script to use to change the alpha color of the graphic symbol i used.the game is a shooting game, ex: target points is 50, if the score is 25 the alpha color should be at 50%, if score is 50 alpha is at a 100%i tried this script but it doesn't work
Someone told me once that every function in Flash has some associated actionscript being executed behind the scenes, e.g. converting a graphic to a symbol or drawing a pentagon on the stage. This person also told me that there is somewhere in which you can view said ActionScript as it's being executed. How can I do this? I deem such a feature necessary to do the projects I have been given, especially having very little experience with AS.
I've created a small animation containing a few images which i have converted to graphic symbols so I can alpha-tween them. I tweened the first image then copy/pasted the frames to do the next using the swap symbol function. When swapping the symbol I selected the desired symbol and pressed okay but nothing happened - I then dragged the desired symbol out of the library and onto the stage then deleted the previous symbol. As soon as I did that the new symbol I had just dragged out switched back to the previous symbol.
How do I replace a graphic symbol ? It is actually made up of 3 layers including a textbox and bullet. When I double click on the symbol, I get the Text Properties menu.
When I single click on the symbol on the stage, the properties menu shows a Swap button. When I choose the correct symbol and click OK, it looks like it worked but it still shows the original symbol name (Instance of it) on this Properties menu.
Another issue is that when I change one of the symbols (by double clicking on the symbol and then double clicking on the text layer), it does change the text on that layer. However, then it changes the text on the other symbol as well even though they are different symbols.
Note that I can edit the original symbol and the new one. Both symbols are different. In other words, they each show the different text (which is what I want). It's like the original symbol is attached/embedded and cannot be changed.
Background on this issue: Rather than create a brand-new layer, I copied all the frames in a layer to a new layer because it has a motion tween on it. I only need to change the symbol that is in the motion tween. This is the only action/event happening on both layers.
Is there anything a graphic symbol can do, that a movie clip can't? So many tutorials I look at, use Movie Clips for so many things, including one frame objects, and buttons etc...So, is there any benefit to ever using a graphic symbol over a movie clip?
I have a motion tween that adds effect to a Symbol of type Graphic. My question is this:How can I change the graphic dynamically? I want to change the graphic to one inside my xml file. I am reading through my xml file fine, I just need to know how I can take the url to my new image and put it into my symbol.
All I'm trying to do is move one graphic (converted to symbol) from one side to another. However, when I try to put in the 'motion tween' it keeps saying "Multiple objects are selected, you must convert them to a symbol in order to tween them. Do you want to convert them and create a tween?" If I click 'Ok' it comes up with "The tween could not be applied to some of the selected frames. This could be due to the frame containing ActionScript, Multiple objects, non-tweenable objects or being on a layer that cannot be a tween layer"
I am making a very simple stick figure animation which will be intended for tv, specifically HDTV 1080p.I have no idea how i did it but I did the animation and before I knew it it was not on scene 1, but on the graphic symbol timeline. I think it is because I made my character a symbol, and i guess everything followed. But when I put them on the stage from the library, only part of the animation shows up, the part with the character i made into a symbol...not only that, but if I copy and paste all the frames from the symbol timeline onto the main timeline, it is HUGE! it doesn't match the size or placement it was on in the other timeline..Also, are there any specific requirements for editing with intent for hdtv? I read you can't use movie clips but as for size, etc? What do you have to set at the beginning and what will change when it is exported or converted for tv?
Im just learning classes and objects.... and read that a movie clip is (or has) a movie clip class... So I'd figure that buttons and graphic symbols also are classes? If yes, why are they called 'symbols' instead of 'classes' by Flash dialog?
I'm working on some fairly detailed character animations, and accordingly have made most of the characters parts into graphic symbols. For instance, his hand is a graphic symbol which has multiple frames for each perspective or pose of the fingers, and I set the symbol to the proper frame in the characters main timeline. I've been having issues, however, when tweening these symbols. I noticed this first when I was working on a jump animation and I just wanted the hand, once its pose is in a state which will be used for the majority of its frames, to tween up and rotate with the arm and body. When I create this tween, however, it forces all other frames of that graphic symbol to be set to that same frame. The start and end frames of the tween are set to the same first frame, and even after trying to manually fix the subsequent frames of the symbol, it wont let me. I've triple checked all my symbol names, frame numbers and settings, and anything else I can think of and everything is in place, so I really have no clue why this is happening
I just wanna ask if I can change color of graphic symbol or i have to convert symbol to MC?
example: I make a rectangle, now i wanna with some color picker or buttom change a color of rectangle.
Second problem: i have two rectangles and i change bg. color of one rectangle, and when i changed the color of background of that rectangle tweening stop.
if you can set and change different properties of a graphic symbol using AS? I know you can change MC's and buttons. I also know that you can change graphic symbol properties using the prop inspector. I was thinking that since you can change properties like _alpha in the Prop Inspector, how to you set and control them using AS.
I have a graphic symbol of a circle that has a radial gradient fill of yellow to red. All I want to do is have it change from yellow to red to red to yellow. I tried the advanced color settings but that doesnt quite do what I want. With the color settings.. it changes the complete tint of the object. I want it to look like it is tweening the gradient not the object. So if the object had a yellow center with a red outer edge I want it to chenge to a red center with a yellow outer edge. How do I accomplish this?
I am creating an image gallery with thumbnails on the right inside a symbol so that they can all fade in at the same time, and the bigger images on the left that also fade in. I can only fit 8 thumbnail images at a time, and want to have more than that. So I'll add an arrow below the thumbs so that when you click on it, you can see the other thumbs. I have the first 8 thumbs on the first frame of a symbol and the rest on the second frame.
My problem is that the symbol that contains the thumbs is a graphic symbol, so that the thumbs in it, that are button symbols can be clicked on. I tried using button and movie clip symbols for the thumbnails container but then the buttons (thumbs) can't be clicked any more. That was not a problem till I had to add more than 8 thumbs, cause i need to give the container an instance name, and graphic symbols can't have one.
Here is the link to download the .fla [URL] In case I didn't make my self clear, what I need is to know if there's a way to have a movie clip or button symbol that can have buttons in it that can be clicked on.
Is there a way to avoid this? I import A LOT of bitmaps all the time and it's really really annoying to have to delete the graphic symbol flash creates with it.
Couldn't find a way to toggle this "feature" off in preferences.
allow the user to clip a button and then place a sybmol (either movie clip or graphic) where the user clicks. I would like to use AS2. The project is simply to label a supply and demand curve graph and user needs to plot, or place points wherever they want on the canvas.
I want to make a new instance of an existing symbol (movie clip or graphic) when an object hits the side of the stage. I have the code to figure out if it hit the side of the stage, i just need to know how to make a new instance and make it show up where the ball hit. I also want to be able to have multiple of these instances on screen.
I just pulled together a picture gallery, where the pictures simply scroll across the screen using arrows. I used the template from [URL] The problem is that when I added my own pictures, the graphic symbol was obviously a different size from the original template. So when the images scroll they should stop at a certain point as to not show any empty space. I changed the values that i guessed were the ones setting up where the graphic has to stop at, but it doesnt seem to be doing anything. The code below is the only script of any importance, at least that I know of. The other stuff just points to targets and gotoandplay stuff.
I have created some graphic symbols from text (convert to symbol>>graphic), and when I double click them (in the editor), they remain text. Others from several month ago seem to remain symbols when double-clicked. The other thing I have noticed is some of my buttons have bulls-eye type circles on top of them, while new ones I create have an empty black circle. All the new ones I created do not seem to work properly, and I am wondering why this is by working backwards.
I have a project in Flash Professional CS5 and ActionScript 3.
I have a movieclip symbol (referred herein as "background" with scripts on various keyframes inside of that symbol. I need to hide or show another symbol (referred herein as "object") sharing a stage with "background".
To put it another way, I need "object" to be hidden when "background" reaches a certain internal keyframe. However, as "object" and "background" are both children of the same stage, how do I do this?
Lets say I have 3 layers A, B and C. I want A to be the mask for B which is pretty easy, but at the same time I want B to be the mask for C. Is that possible?
Is there a way to make Flash work with masks in the same way as in Photoshop? In Flash, for a mask layer to work, it needs to be in shades of transparency. In Photoshop, you can use a fully opaque mask layer, and the mask is applied by using the different shades of black and white.
I'm making some banner ads. They work great on my staging site seen here:But they do not work great on my client's staging site. You can see that the masks are shown and there is flickering throughout:on how to solve this?I'm an expert-level user when it comes to creating artwork and doing timeline animation in Flash CS3.
