I can't really understand how can Adobe let the developers release such a messy embedded Flash editor. Please, fix the line copying, it drives me mad. In every normal editor, when u get to the start of the line and press shift+downarrow, the whole line is selected. Flash selects the tabs in the next line also. So pasting is a horrible nightmare.
View 1 RepliesI have a site that compiles to Actionscript 2.0 and Flash player 8. This site utilises XML output from ASP.Net driven database pages. The problem I have is basically that where I have some tabstops set, in certain cases, where the text starting from the first tab stop is over a certain length an unwanted line break is output just before the last word in the entry. (I know it's always the last word since if I put another word on the end of the string the word that was originally on the new line is back in it's proper place - so it doesn't appear to be length related).
Effectively, what I want is as follows:
header1: Descriptive text header 1
header2: Description header 2
header3: Description header 3
header4: header 4 text
Descriptive text here across multiple lines
What I'm getting is something like this:
header1: Descriptive text header 1
header2: Description header 2
header3: Description header 3 with a long
description header4: header 4 text

There are appropriate closing tags further down the file. The CSS that relates to this is:

In order to get the CSS to overide the settings of the dynamic text field I use an empty TextFormat object tFormat. The XML is loaded with ignoreWhite set to true. Or can I not see the wood for the trees?
i have an xml file and i want my code in flash to read it line by line but its only showing the first line out of 5 lines.Below is the code:

Just learning Flash CS4 and I can't believe you can't create or set tabs in a text object.You can set tabs for editing actionscript, but not in a text object. Are you kidding me? Even wordpad can do this.

I've enabled Preferences > General > Editors > Text Editors > Insert spaces for tabs but it still inserts tabs. I've tried editing files with no tabs but it still inserts tabs.
What's strange is that Insert spaces for tabs works in Eclipse but not Flash Builder, which is built on Eclipse. Perhaps there's a bug in Adobe's portion of Flash Builder.

View 2 Repliesim creating a presentation that has a bunch of links to websites and pdf files. right now the presentation opens fullscreen when first opened but if the user clicks one of the pdf or web links the clip minimizes and if the user tries to maximize the flash window the menu bar at the top is visible and cuts off some of the content.
is it possible to detect when the user tabs away from the presentation so the clip will pause automatically and i can tell the user to click to continue? i know this code will work fscommand ("fullscreen", "true"); that will make the presentation fullscreen again but i need the movie to pause if the user clicks a link. i have seen this before in games where the game will pause if i tab to another program and i have to click to continue.

but now I have a new one! After fifth click browser keeps opening hundreds of new tabs! I think it's because flash keeps playing movie. There must be some kind of loop and every loop flash opens new tab. I tried to add stop(); in few different places but still no result.

If you press a keyboard key on an ADG the selected row moves to the first line it finds whose first column cell's text starts with the character you just pressed. Does anyone know if there's a property to turn that behavior off?

Is there any way to tell which item a user selects from a List? I already have a "change" event listener, but that doesn't tell me WHICH item was clicked (at least, I don't think it does.)

The reason I need to know which song I'm on is so I can reference the <composer> child tag for the correct song.
I can't select some of my text objects!!They are all in the same layer, I've inactivated all other layers, but when clicking the keyframe it selects 5 out of 9 textfields.. And when clicking the (non selected) textfields nothing happens, what is wrong?? The layer is not locked since I still can change the other textfields.. I can't delete them or anything! If they where converted to MovieClips I know I could change them via the object library, but is there a similar way to select objects that aren't in the list?

Some time in the last few months, a change in either Firefox, the Flash player, or both, has made it so that Flash movies that are in inactive browser tabs no longer execute in real time. They appear to still execute, but only in bursts, and not in a predictable way. This is a problem because I develop a Flash-based (Actionscript 2.0, Flash CS3) multiplayer game that maintains a network connection and allows players to chat, etc.

View 4 RepliesI'm in the process of teaching myself the components of the CS4 Design Premium package using the Adobe Classroom in a Book series. I'm currently going through the Flash CIAB and i've started using the pen tool. The task involves creating a wave like design across the stage. Whilst this in itself is simple, the final instruction is to click on the first anchor point to close the shape. In the illustration, the closed shape seems to automatically extend around the stage, however when I click on the first anchor point, the line automatically connects between the two points in a straight line.
Am I doing something wrong? The next step is to fill this area, but with the straight line effect that I am getting, this becomes impossible. I should point out that the instruction states that the pen tool line should extend off the stage. I have done this, but even then on clicking on the first anchor point the shape is closed incorrectly.
I am using Flex 4 and AS3 and I am trying to make it so that the user can draw a freehand line with the cursor - I have this part done.However, I also need the line to be a dashed line instead of one solid line like it is now. below is my code I am using. I have found some examples on how to do this, but they are all for straight lines, not for a freehand line.

I am working on a problem since a week soon, but I still couldn't make it work as expected. I have a DataGrid which has HBox with a CheckBox an a Label as itemRenderer (see Code below). When I tap in to the Cell the standard itemEditor pops up and lets you enter the content of the label. Thats the standard behavior. I works fine except for 2 problems:
If I enter to much text, the horizontal srollbar pops up, and the cell is filled with that scrollbar. As you see I tried to set the horizontalScrollPolicy to off, but that doesnt work at all... I tried to do that for all the different elements, but the failure is still existent. When I have filled more than one row, there is an other mistake happening. If I tap on a row, the datagrid selects the one below that row. That's only if one line is already selected. If I tap outside the datagrid and then, tap at any row the itemEditor of the right row will show up... Is there anything now wright in the setup of my set data method?

Now, _top, _self, I can't get anything to work for what I want to do. What I'm trying to do is make it so when I click a link, it opens it in the SAME tab. I have seen many (dozens) of these problems, but none seem to help. On firefox, it openes in a new tab, (I have it set so windows open in new tabs), on IE it opens in a new window, and in chrome it opens in a new tab. Please help me fix this problem,

View 5 RepliesI am fairly new to flash and I have started to attempt to modify a template that I found online to make it my own. The thing that I am having problems with is the URL Links. There are 5 different clickable tabs on the header that I have, and when you edit it in flash cs4, each one is the same image when you edit it. The only way in which you can change what each one of them says is by editing them in the library. This isn't the problem. I want to link these tabs to different pages on my website. When I edit one of them, all of them change to the same url link. The file is too large for me to upload I think.
