I have a dynamic text field that is not displaying foreign characters properly. They appear as boxes.
Here's what I've tried.
Under properties for the text field, I clicked on the embed characters button. In there, I pasted all the special characters I would need and clicked okay. Shouldn't this be enough for the text to display properly?
So, I have some basic actionscript code. It's a legacy site, so I'm using AS2. The line of code simply does this:
myField.text = "some text"
So, I select the text field on the stage, then ensure the font is embedded. All the glyphs I want are checked, but then when I compile and test, the fonts don't show up when the code is executed. Instead, the textfield is blank! What happened?! Where did the text go?
I should mention that the .swf which I compile is loaded into another parent .swf during runtime. If that parent .swf does not contain embedded fonts, is that why it's broken?
I've come across a strange error with a contact details form developed with Flash CS5 Prof. My keyboard layout is set up as English (UK) and pressing shift-2 gives me an ", shift-' gives me a @ in Chrome, Notepad, Word etc. In a text field on the flash form, entering shift-2 gives me @ but shift-' gives me ". I understand this is how the US keyboard is mapped out but it is confusing to my users.
How can I change the text field so that it works correctly for my keyboard layout?
The following code does what I want (i.e. any key I press on the keyboard displays the character in uppercase format in the dynamic field on the stage) except that it does not properly restrict the characters to A-Z and 0-9. I can still press the <,.>?!/ keys and each of these chars shows up in the dynamic text field My dynamic text field is txt_BoxWhat is wrong with the following code?

I want to show special characters in flash
I have taken a dynamic text field with HTML property = true;
Some of the characters are working fine. But some of the special characters are not. For example the angle symbol "∠" is not working.
I found out the Decimal code for angle symbol (∠) and used it. It is working fine if I don't embed the font but when we embed the font (even with all the characters that flash support), it is not working.

What ACTUALLY appears is this: So... The H, Ls, and D are gone. Mysteriously. Without warning. I am sitting here utterly confused. Is this just me?
PS. The text field is set to Myriad Pro Bold, a font on my computer, so it isn't like it's a font problem.
This should be basic enough but I'm having trouble troubleshooting it

I wanted this to result in dynamic text field displaying
"The banjo has been selected!" but it results in "The [Object MovieClip] has been selected!".
Is String(var) wrong command to use? The only reason I could think why it's not working is, that the variable has been stated as 'MovieClip' instead of Number or Text. What can be done in the case of MovieClip if this is correct?
P.S I'm wondering if there're rules on asking questions on this board... I've asked two for today already and they would be considered pretty 'basic' ones to professionals / experienced users on this board >_<

Is it possible to display an object's instance name in a dynamic text field? If so how do I do that?

I am going to display some dynamic NON ENGLISH TEXT in flash. Now the problem is it is fine with the English text but If I put some other languages then the display is something horrible. I tried by embedding the dynamic text field for all. I have tried by saving the xml file as �UTF-8�, �Unicode� but the result is the same.
When I put in the XML � This is only for test� the text displayed properly. But if I put �Revela��o� in place of �This is only for test� then the result is horrible and it does not display the text properly.

Background:
Currently I have to use two different text fields to display 10000 due to the different font sizes.
The 10 is a larger font and the 000 is a smaller font. When I assign '0 'to the dynamic text fields of the smaller font I get just that a '0' not a '000' which is what I want.
Question:
Is there an easy way to display leading zeros in a dynamic text field? Or can a dynamic text field have different character positions displayed in different font sizes? or both?

I have an app that generates text from the user's input (dynamic text box).The user is allowed to use Danish letters like '�' (the 'a' with the ring above / å). My problem is that the top of the ring above the 'a' is cut off by the upper part of the text box. So, I want the text in the dynamic text box to move down a little. But as we all know, dynamic text cannot be vertically aligned in the properties of the text box. So, what to do?

how to output characters from foreign languages in Flex and ActionScript.
To start, I'm just trying to output Cyrillic in a text control, but its just not working.
Ive tried BOM (Byte Order Marks) indicating UTF-8 in the XML file containing the text. I also specified "<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>" in that file, and also in the actual MXML file. The actual text control is in a seperate AS3 file without a BOM, but I'm compiling everything with -actionscript-file-encoding="UTF-8".
The original cyrillic text came from an html file with a BOM indicating utf-8. I can paste that text into any html file with the same BOM and it displays correctly; take out the BOM and its garbage, so all that is needed is the correct Byte Order Mark at the start of the html file.
I've created a series of calculations, and I've got that part down. Now, I just need it to show up in the movie.
I've created the dynamic text box in Flash (CS3), but when I hit test, it won't show up.
After all the calculations, I should have a figure that I call totalmoney. My dynamic text box is called total. The user doesn't need to hit anything for it to appear. It just appears as part of the movie.

Im using a standard font (Gotham rounded) within a dynamic text field. As soon as I embed the numerals within this text field the text lowers within the text field.Double clicking the field then renders the text higher up! These text fields aren't interactive, they're only dynamic to allow scrolling and external links. I need to be able to tab right a couple of times (like you would in a word document) to arrange a handful of lines of text in a tabular format. I want to be able to do this to just a couple of lines in the middle of the body of text, not as a separate table, but the tabs need to behave like regular tabs in that the text will always align correctly.

View 1 RepliesI'm creating an XML-driven pie chart in AS3 with 2 text boxes in each pie slice. Both text fields are dynamic in the sense that they are populated by the XML doc and then told where to place themselves in the AS3. I've got them both using the same x and y position to place themselves at the moment (which of course puts them right one top of each other), but I'd like to make one of the fields (which acts like a label or a title to the larger number and % text field) place itself in a particular spot around the other text field. The result I'm looking for is to have the smaller "title" text field appear approximately 5 pixels above and left-justified to the larger "percentage" field.
Anyway, here are two sections of code that I've currently got. The first chunk, for the Tags portion, sets the position for the "percentage" text field using a good old x and y method. The second chunk, for Titles, is setting the position for the smaller "title" text.

I'm using evt.target.borderColor = 0xff00000 to successfully change the color of a dynamic text filed that is the target Now I'm trying to change the border size. borderSize isn't being accepted, so I was wondering if there is an attribute to change the border size of a text field? Right now, I'm trying to figure out a way to load a list of names into one dynamic text field that changes at certain time intervals. I'm using ActionScript 2 right now b/c I haven't learned 3, yet. Is there a way for Flash to access a word document and load a name say, every minute? I know I could add a different variable name in front of each employee name, like content, content1, content2, but I have a list of like 300 names here. That would take up almost as much time as it would creating a slide for each name in Power Point.

Is there a way to pass the textfield A text to a dynamic text input (flash) as I'd like to use the font embedding flash offers. I can make it work when loading a value from a txt file but I'm not sure how to access the value identified above as KitGroupID_16_TextOption_38 and make it appear in a dynamic input box. I have a dynamic text field which is loading images from an external html. This text is named scrollPaneImage and is a child of a movieClip called scrollPaneContent. I then load scrollPaneContent into a scroll pane named scrollPane
When the user interacts with my swf different images are loaded into scrollPaneImage. Since some of the images take a few seconds to load, I'd like there to be a progress loader displayed in the scrollpane.
I have tried adding the progress event listner to the dynamic text, the movie clip and the scrollpane and cannot get it to respond or track the loading.

Is it possible to login through flash using one Dynamic Text Field and one Input Text Field and no buttons? If so how? I have seen many tutorials dealing with logging in to PHP using flash but it requires you to make your own php scripts which i am not familiar with. Can some one tell me how to do this with PHPBBs existing php scripts...
