Actionscript 3 :: Flash Text Field Displaying Incorrect Characters?
Dec 13, 2010
I've come across a strange error with a contact details form developed with Flash CS5 Prof. My keyboard layout is set up as English (UK) and pressing shift-2 gives me an ", shift-' gives me a @ in Chrome, Notepad, Word etc. In a text field on the flash form, entering shift-2 gives me @ but shift-' gives me ". I understand this is how the US keyboard is mapped out but it is confusing to my users.
How can I change the text field so that it works correctly for my keyboard layout?
I have a dynamic text field that is not displaying foreign characters properly. They appear as boxes.
Here's what I've tried.
Under properties for the text field, I clicked on the embed characters button. In there, I pasted all the special characters I would need and clicked okay. Shouldn't this be enough for the text to display properly?
I am working in Flash CS5 and I have placed a text field (dynamic, classic text) on the stage. I am accessing it through Actionscript on the same frame like this:
var ct:TextField = TextField(getChildByName("Temperature")); ct.text = "Hello world";
What ACTUALLY appears is this: So... The H, Ls, and D are gone. Mysteriously. Without warning. I am sitting here utterly confused. Is this just me?
PS. The text field is set to Myriad Pro Bold, a font on my computer, so it isn't like it's a font problem.
Im a bit of a novice with flash and have become stuck while trying to achieve what should be a simple task. I am trying to read in XML data and display the lables in a combo box and then display the corresponding data in a text field below. So that when for example "Vintage Red Wine" is selected in the combo box, the description for that wine will then be shown in the textfield below.Most of the code is functional. The combo box displays the information i want. The only thing that doesnt want to work is the text field which should show the wine decriptions.
Here is my XML data: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <Wines>
Got a client that says that Flash ( a panel that is pulling information from a database and simply displaying it in text field.) is not working in IE7. I told them that this is impossible as Flash is completely crossbrowser compatible. Am I missing something?? Is it a possibility?
i am missing a few characters, once i load text into a dynamic text field. chars are not missing per say; they are being replaced with empty squares.characters like the euro sign and accentuated german a letter.whats is weird is that other accentuated german letters do appear. so only a few selected are missing.How ive set up the fla:
1) i've added 4 text fields to the stage in the font im using, Arial, one for each font style: normal, italic, bold and bold italic, and in all 4 fields ive embedded all latin characters (to include the german accentuaded characters and im guessing it's in the punctuation group that holds the euro sign, so that one is also embedded), besides lowercase, uppercase, numerical, and all the default groupd to include basic text.
2) i've got a dynamic text field, created with createTextField, and setup the following ActionScript (2):[code]i mean, it seems that the arial font is missing a few accentuated characters! because the code i have setup loads other accentuated characters.
I have a dynamic text field that reads the text from a XML file. And what I want to do is simply count the amount of characters being in that text field.
I've tried:
trace (myTextArea.length); trace(myTextArea.text.length); and I get this"Undefined" crap =/.
And I'm using that code in a onEnterFrame function so it's not that the XML is late loaded into flash or something...
So, I have some basic actionscript code. It's a legacy site, so I'm using AS2. The line of code simply does this:
myField.text = "some text"
So, I select the text field on the stage, then ensure the font is embedded. All the glyphs I want are checked, but then when I compile and test, the fonts don't show up when the code is executed. Instead, the textfield is blank! What happened?! Where did the text go?
I should mention that the .swf which I compile is loaded into another parent .swf during runtime. If that parent .swf does not contain embedded fonts, is that why it's broken?
I am working on an application that allows user to copy and paste content into a text field. The problem I'm running across is that when the user paste something with a tab in it, the tab is not shown in the text field.[code]...
The following code does what I want (i.e. any key I press on the keyboard displays the character in uppercase format in the dynamic field on the stage) except that it does not properly restrict the characters to A-Z and 0-9. I can still press the <,.>?!/ keys and each of these chars shows up in the dynamic text field My dynamic text field is txt_BoxWhat is wrong with the following code?
var varKeyListener:Object = new Object();varKeyListener.onKeyDown = function(){ txt_Box.restrict = "A-Z 0-9"; txt_Box.text = String.fromCharCode(Key.getAscii()); txt_Box.text = txt_Box.text.toUpperCase();}
This should be basic enough but I'm having trouble troubleshooting it
var instrument:MovieClip=banjo; instrument_txt.text="The " + String(instrument)+ " has been selected!";
I wanted this to result in dynamic text field displaying
"The banjo has been selected!" but it results in "The [Object MovieClip] has been selected!".
Is String(var) wrong command to use? The only reason I could think why it's not working is, that the variable has been stated as 'MovieClip' instead of Number or Text. What can be done in the case of MovieClip if this is correct?
P.S I'm wondering if there're rules on asking questions on this board... I've asked two for today already and they would be considered pretty 'basic' ones to professionals / experienced users on this board >_<
I'm reading text from a text file and displaying it into a text field. The problem is when i read it doesn't display the text as it is in a text file. For ex - See below imageNow , as you can see, second line in the text file starts right where first line ends.But flash doesn't display it like that. I have hundreds of lines and in most cases flash spaces consumes less space then a text file. The font in both text field in Flash and notpad is to Arial so the font shouldn't be a problem.
I have taken over an old project of a registration page after a short quiz and for some reason it is not possible to enter special characters in the text input field. example: @ but it is also not possible to enter a y or a capital W and some others. I have not found any thread or google infos on this problem and am short of reprogramming the whole thing in as3 which is very tedious because the whole site is still running as2 and we do not have time nor money to update.
I have taken a dynamic text field with HTML property = true;
Some of the characters are working fine. But some of the special characters are not. For example the angle symbol "∠" is not working.
I found out the Decimal code for angle symbol (∠) and used it. It is working fine if I don't embed the font but when we embed the font (even with all the characters that flash support), it is not working.
I'm trying to display an xml file (news.xml) in a text field (with an instance name of newsTxt). The data displays exactly as I want it to when I trace it, but when I try to load it into the text field, it only shows the last section of the xml file... just says "post number 3" Here's the xml file:
Is it possible to ignore white space between characters inside a text input field let's say a user types in "bri an" instead of "brian. Is there a way that white space is ignore and treated it as one word?
It works, in the output it tells me the tweets. but i need it to be displyed on the app, i need to no how to do this, someone pointed me in the direction of using a item renderer extended from sprite? But really all i need to do is display it in a text field, all i want to do is display the data.
Trying to display an image in a Dynamic Text Field that reads in an html file: using the <img> tag. The text shows up just fine, but the image is not being displayed ??
Am having problems displaying Simplified chinese in Flash. I have a file and I am using an xml file to hold the text externally.I have tried embedding the simplified chinese in the text fields in the flash file, using a chinese specific font, however none of this is working
1) Each field in the form only allows 3 characters and no special characters such as @ _ ! . , etc... 2) When the user goes to the next field in the form, the previous field appears blank but the when clicking on that again, the original text appears. 3) When submitting the form, it just keeps saying "in progress" and never shows the confirmation text nor does the email get sent. There is an HTML file included with this form but I am not sure if I need to put that in as I have embedded this form into an SWF file so I don't think I need that code but let me know if I am wrong about this. I am posting both the AS code and PHP code below..
in a simple AS2 .fla there was a text field labeled "message_number" which would display the variable "message_number." Very straightforward.How can a text field in AS3 be made to display this variable?
nothing displays. The image and flash document are at the same level, so that is why I am using a relative link. Do I need to use a full (absolute) link to the image?
I was coding an AS3 file and it worked great until I started writing a class to extend the textfield class. After that, every time I tested my movie, the text field is created but nothing showed up. After some troubleshooting, I discovered that the text was actually in the text field, but was outside of the bounds of the text field and the field's height cannot be resized through code or with multiple lines of text. I found this out because I could copy the text and paste it into a text editor (and no, the text isn't set to white). Everything works properly with dynamic text fields created on the stage, just not when created in actionscript. I have tried embedding a font and using the default with no luck. The code even works on a different machine!! The same problem occurs in AS2. I have tried dumping the class file I created, reinstalling Flash, the Flash Player, and even uninstalling my font management program and still nothing.
I am going to display some dynamic NON ENGLISH TEXT in flash. Now the problem is it is fine with the English text but If I put some other languages then the display is something horrible. I tried by embedding the dynamic text field for all. I have tried by saving the xml file as UTF-8, Unicode but the result is the same.
When I put in the XML This is only for test the text displayed properly. But if I put Revelao in place of This is only for test then the result is horrible and it does not display the text properly.
(I used the * to hide the original names from here). Anyway, all the Titles and Descriptions I write there, are displayed correctly in my website, with the exception of V, j and G. At least those are the characters I've noticed to be missing. Anything else, works PERFECT. v, J and g works i.e.
Currently I have to use two different text fields to display 10000 due to the different font sizes.
The 10 is a larger font and the 000 is a smaller font. When I assign '0 'to the dynamic text fields of the smaller font I get just that a '0' not a '000' which is what I want.
Question:
Is there an easy way to display leading zeros in a dynamic text field? Or can a dynamic text field have different character positions displayed in different font sizes? or both?
I have a project in which I need to click a button and and have the current year display as YYYY in a dynamic text field. My current code was written as:
var myDate:Date = new Date(); function whatYear(e:MouseEvent):void { display_txt.text = myDate.getFullYear();} date_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, whatYear);
I keep getting an error 1067: Implicit coercion of a value of type Number to an unrelated type String.
