I have a dynamic text field that reads the text from a XML file. And what I want to do is simply count the amount of characters being in that text field.
I've tried:
trace (myTextArea.length);
trace(myTextArea.text.length);
and I get this"Undefined" crap =/.
And I'm using that code in a onEnterFrame function so it's not that the XML is late loaded into flash or something...
I have a text field that has 2 lines for visible text. I then pass it a string to display but the string might be to long to display all of the string. My problem is that I want to count how many characters that are NOT visible in the text field. The text field has to stay the fixed size and cannot change

View 2 Repliesi am missing a few characters, once i load text into a dynamic text field. chars are not missing per say; they are being replaced with empty squares.characters like the euro sign and accentuated german a letter.whats is weird is that other accentuated german letters do appear. so only a few selected are missing.How ive set up the fla:
1) i've added 4 text fields to the stage in the font im using, Arial, one for each font style: normal, italic, bold and bold italic, and in all 4 fields ive embedded all latin characters (to include the german accentuaded characters and im guessing it's in the punctuation group that holds the euro sign, so that one is also embedded), besides lowercase, uppercase, numerical, and all the default groupd to include basic text.
2) i've got a dynamic text field, created with createTextField, and setup the following ActionScript (2):[code]i mean, it seems that the arial font is missing a few accentuated characters! because the code i have setup loads other accentuated characters.
I can't seem to figure out the .numLines property. I've tried calling it on a TextField that was created dynamically. The TextField has multiline set to true and wordWrap also set to true. Any clue why it would consistantly report the number 1? It's being called in a trace statement after the htmlText is set to a string from a xml file.

I have a dynamic text field that is not displaying foreign characters properly. They appear as boxes.
Here's what I've tried.
Under properties for the text field, I clicked on the embed characters button. In there, I pasted all the special characters I would need and clicked okay. Shouldn't this be enough for the text to display properly?
I've come across a strange error with a contact details form developed with Flash CS5 Prof. My keyboard layout is set up as English (UK) and pressing shift-2 gives me an ", shift-' gives me a @ in Chrome, Notepad, Word etc. In a text field on the flash form, entering shift-2 gives me @ but shift-' gives me ". I understand this is how the US keyboard is mapped out but it is confusing to my users.
How can I change the text field so that it works correctly for my keyboard layout?
I have taken over an old project of a registration page after a short quiz and for some reason it is not possible to enter special characters in the text input field. example: @ but it is also not possible to enter a y or a capital W and some others. I have not found any thread or google infos on this problem and am short of reprogramming the whole thing in as3 which is very tedious because the whole site is still running as2 and we do not have time nor money to update.

I have taken a dynamic text field with HTML property = true;
Some of the characters are working fine. But some of the special characters are not. For example the angle symbol "∠" is not working.
I found out the Decimal code for angle symbol (∠) and used it. It is working fine if I don't embed the font but when we embed the font (even with all the characters that flash support), it is not working.

I get my text imported and it splits it every time the letter 'a' is found. That's fine.
How would I go about counting the number of times that 'a' or 'and' (for example) featured in the text?

Is there a way to pass the textfield A text to a dynamic text input (flash) as I'd like to use the font embedding flash offers. I can make it work when loading a value from a txt file but I'm not sure how to access the value identified above as KitGroupID_16_TextOption_38 and make it appear in a dynamic input box. Eventually I might want to have 3 font choices for the user but I'd like to just see if I can get this working properly first.
Is it possible to login through flash using one Dynamic Text Field and one Input Text Field and no buttons? If so how? I have seen many tutorials dealing with logging in to PHP using flash but it requires you to make your own php scripts which i am not familiar with. But having the user input a number, store it as a variable, store which function the user wants to perform and clear the text field then store the new input in the same text field as a different variable and multiply or add or divide or subtract the 2 numbers and getting the equals sign to display the answer when clicked is harder than I thought it would be.

I have 4 text fields located at 90, 180, 270 and 360 degrees (top, bottom, left and right). I have it controlled via AS, so I've got all the Math but I was hoping someone might know how to reveal the links when the arrow (in the dial) is pointing in these directions.I set up a text field for testing, which shows the degrees, but I'm getting 'NaN' in the field (problems with Theta and converting degrees to Radians, I think). I thought this might help me figure out how to reveal those links, if I can get the NaN to work.Currently, the file is rotating with an onPress, but I'm going to convert it to a mouse follow, instead, so the user only has to float around to see the links.

I can make this happen, but the problem is that the dinamic field shows its new text in the same format as the Input field. For example, the input text is written in TimesNewRoman and the dinamic text is in Arial, but when the dinamic text shows the input, the text is still in TimesNewRoman when I want it to be in Arial.

I'd now like to pass the contents of the text field to another text field. But I can't get the contents. If I try to trace the contents of the textField trace("mediaImportName"+thisNum).text - Flash returns "undefined" (even though I'm asking it to trace after the field has been populated).
I use the following code to check that the field really is there and named correctly (the code returns the children):

i want the volume bar to start filled and when the user hits the minus button it lowers the volume and when it hit plus it takes the volume up well when I go down and up the volume bars start to get crazy...it just works when I go down the whole way and after it goes up the whole way, when I change direction on the midle of the path it jumps some bars...
