What I've learned so far is that in static text fields, flash should embed it itself since I can't reference to it + embedFonts property not working, how can I fix this problem? View 0 RepliesI've been struggling to get some text antialiased in a static text field in CS4. The text field is using an embedded font, with antialiasing set to "Anti-alias for readability".
The field is referring to the font symbol in the library and the symbol does not have bitmap text enabled.
When viewing the field itself, the text looks properly antialiased. The field is inside a graphic symbol. When I navigate out of the graphic symbol, the text loses its antialiasing. It is also not antialiased when published.
It has something to do with the font symbol, as it antialiases properly if I set the font to the actual font on the system. It's not a standard font though, so will need to be embedded.
The three images show the text in the text field, the symbol and the published swf.
So, I have some basic actionscript code. It's a legacy site, so I'm using AS2. The line of code simply does this:
myField.text = "some text"
So, I select the text field on the stage, then ensure the font is embedded. All the glyphs I want are checked, but then when I compile and test, the fonts don't show up when the code is executed. Instead, the textfield is blank! What happened?! Where did the text go?
I should mention that the .swf which I compile is loaded into another parent .swf during runtime. If that parent .swf does not contain embedded fonts, is that why it's broken?

View 2 RepliesI have a strange issue where a dynamic text field will not show a bold version of a font (Gerstner BQ) if the regular version is on the stage in a static text field.Remove the static text field and the dynamic text field displays the bold font correctlyI have created a test FLA to reproduce this and by turning the layer with the static text field on and off (Publish settings -> Flash -> include hidden layers [unchecked]), the issue is quite clearhis issue is so big for me that I have had to abandon a project in CS5 and start again in CS4 just to work around this.
View 19 RepliesI have all text fields set to static which supposedly has the characters embedded. However, when I open the file on a computer that does not have that font installed (Helvetica Neue) it is replaced with Time New Roman. I've read some articles about embedding on flash, but none of them seem to be quite clear about this. I have even tried to change the text fields from static to dynamic and embedding the glyphs, but it just doesn't look as good as when I have static text. Besides being a heck of a waste of time, since I would have to do it for all of the pages... This would be like 200 text fields or so..
View 2 RepliesI have a font named Garogier Regual. I use this font in illustrator and Photoshop just fine. But when I use it in flash , it displays the name Garogier ( not Garogier Regular ). But this is not the problem. When I test my movie it gets me an error :
#2161: An internal error occured while laying out the text.
I changed the textfiled type from TLF to Classic and the problem solved. When i use tlf textfiled with this font, it even displays my text very narrow and colorless.
I have exactly the same font settings for Static Text and Dynamic Text but the Static Text looks much sharper. Anyone knows why?Font: Trebuchet MSSize: 30 ptAnti-Alias for readability
View 3 RepliesI have an embedded font in my AIR/AS3 app that lacks support for most internationalcharacters. Using TextField and StyleSheet with the font-family property, I assumed I would simply need to do this:font-family: Interstate-Regular, _sans;This works if TextField.embedFonts = false; but then Interstate-Regular isn't embedded for users that don't have it on their system. With TextField.embedFonts = true; the text doesn't even show up. Is there a way to embed Interstate-Regular and still use _sans as a fallback system font without embedding it as well?
View 1 RepliesIf I import a font into my library for use with dynamic text fields, but my swf also contains a lot of static text, would I save much in the way of filesize by making all the static text dynamic too. Seems to me if I have imported the font, then publish the file and have flash convert all the static text to outlines, I'm going to be wasting filesize because all the font info is already contained in the swf.
View 3 RepliesI have a user text input field and a preview button, when they press preview the inputed text appears in a dynamic text field in another part of the window. I need to be able to change the font of the text in the dynamic field using buttons (so the user can see their text displayed in various different fonts which will be embedded into the swf). After watching various different tutorials I hashed together this code for my first button to change the font to Times New Roman which I embedded with the class name timesNew.

When I run the movie everything works fine and the console shows no errors but when I press the button to change the font the text in the dynamic field simply disappears.
I have combed through the forums and read every font embedding article I could find and still I don't understand what's going on. I have created a simple test case that I have attached to this post. Hopefully someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong.Here's the situation ...ultimately, my goal is to be able to dynamically create text fields with embedded fonts (I'm using Arial or Arial Unicode) that can display a variety of languages (English and Russian are the primary ones I'm working on right now). In the attached sample, I have added a font to the library and set it to use Arial Unicode.I have 3 text fields on the stage: Field 1 is generated entirely from code using createTextField, Field 2 is a design-time text field that uses the embedded library font, and Field 3 is a design-time text field that uses basic Arial rather than Arial Unicode.For the 2 design-time fields I have embedded the glyphs necessary to display English and Russian as well as some others.I also have a few buttons on the stage to create the 3rd text field (using createtextfield), send english or russian text to all 3 fields, and turn embedding on/off of the generated text field.
Here are the results I've found:With embedding OFF:English shows up fine in all 3 text fields (in the generated one, it uses the system default font instead).Russian shows up in the generated field and in the 3rd field (basic Arial) but NOT in the field that uses the embedded library font.With embedding ON:NOTHING shows up in the generated text field the 2 design time fields function the same as they did before.I REALLY don't understand why the design-time text field doesn't work when it uses the library version of the font. Why should that matter? I also don't get why even ENGLISH doesn't work in the generated field when embedding is on.
//EDIT: I just tried using Arial as the font for the generated text field rather than using the linkage name for the library font and now the embedding works. So I guess my main question is why it doesn't work using the library font....I thought that using the library font .
Try this experiment. Select Text, Static Text, Times New Roman [or any font], set size to 280. Remember how it looks. Now set to Dynamic Text. Suddenly the font size changes even when it still shows 280! How can I make the visual size stay the same?

warning: incompatible embedded font 'Arial' specified for spark.components::Label (Label104).This component requires that the embedded font be declared with embedAsCff=true.
The application I am working on is a mix of Halo and Sparks components as I am migrating it to Flex 4. The text that is showing in the text fields is defaulting the systems serif font. There are a few problems with this warning.
1) I am not embedding any fonts in the application. I am not even assigning the Arial font to any of the components.
2) If I check the "Use Flash Text Engine in MX components", then all the text fields in the app throw the warning. Not just the sparks text fields.
Why does flex 4 think that I am using an embedded font with the sparks components? Is there any way to get around this warning and have the text fields use a non embedded font?
When I set up 3 input text fields, I allow the user to change the font and size of those fields. If the user selects each one with the mouse and modifys them then no problems are seen. But if the user first changes the size and font of text field 2, then tabs to that text field and starts to change the text. The font and size properties revert back to the default.

I could re-apply the formating everytime the text field changes, but that seems like a bandaid to the problem.
After a lot of experiments and reading many articles, Q&As, I still didn't find the answers to my problem, then I decided to ask my question at great stackoverflow forum:-)
The setup of my project is as follows:
- Create an AS3 project in Flash Builder 4 (Main.as3proj), and write source code in it;
- Create graphical assets in Flash CS5;
- Load the graphical assets in the AS3 project;
In the graphical assets (swfs), there are text fields, we would like to use Embedded fonts for the text fields. But we don't want to embed the fonts in all swfs, we want to create a swf as a font library (FontLib.swf), that embed all the fonts needed across all the graphical assets (swfs).
After loading or embedding the FontLib.swf to the main application (Main.swf), the embedded fonts is availabe: TextField.isFontCompatible(myFontName, myFont)
is true. And when I create a TextField with the embedded font at runtime, it works fine. But besides this, I want to use the embedded fonts for the TextFields in other graphical assets like what I described at the begging, but when I try to change the text for the dynamic text field in a movie clip, the text field will disappear. (Before changing the text, it can be displayed because Flash CS5 automatically embed the fonts for the characters already input in the fla/swf file).
I tried to clone the text field with the same properties of the text field in the movie clip and replaced the old one, as I said, this works as other text fields created at run time. But I have other problem with cloning and replacing the text fields in movie clip. I wonder if there is a way to instruct the flash player to use the externally loaded embedded fonts for the text fields in movie clip.
I'm using a text format to display text as 20 point Arial, and on the text field, I tell it to embed the font. This should work since every windows system has Arial. But the text doesn't show up...

I have embedded the "Century Gothic" font into my project FLA file, and exported it as a class called CenturyGothic.How do I use this font class in a Textformat instance which has been assigned to a text field? and how can I do the same in a text field which has been assigned a Stylesheet class instead of a TextFormat?

What's confusing is that the other portions of the site do display the font properly!?! I've uploaded the original .fla file to the server for anyone that's really interested in helping. View 2 RepliesIf you're creating a htmlText field via the createTextField method, is there a way to get html formatting like <b></b> to show up if you are also embedding a font? I'm guessing not, since you can only embed a single font in a TextFormat, and you would have to embed both italic and bold variants too to make it work. Is this true?Maybe I'm better off creating a generic text field on the stage with both bold and italics embedded, and use the attachMovie method instead?This is my code:

I've got a number of related projects set up in Flash Builder. Each project gets its graphical assets from an exported SWC file (or multiple SWC files.) This works fine, but I wanted to create a shared project that contains stuff used across all projects. The first item in there is a screen with a number of clips containing dynamic text fields on them. This screen (and associated assets) are exported to a SWC and then I have written code in the shared project to add functionality to the screen and buttons. I'm using 2 fonts, both are embedded.
Both show up just fine in my test harness, but when I link the shared SWC and src folder (which is required in order to use this code/assets in the other projects) the textfields blank out if I try to set their text properties. If I leave the default text (set in the FLA) it shows up, and the static text fields in the FLA also show up, it's only when I set the text property.
I've tried a number of combinations, including removing embedding, exporting for ActionScript, setting all textfields in the shared project to dynamic, all with no luck. The main project does have the same font embedded, and I've checked that the same glyphs are selected in both the main and shared projects. I realize this is a rather complicated setup, but I have yet to find a workflow to allow a designer and developer to work on large projects that is better (but I'd love to hear one!)

I'm using Flex 4. I'm trying to apply a embedded font in all Alert components of the application, to get the same style that all the app, of course. I code in my CSS file:

The font-family worked to all componentes, but not to the Alert component. In alert the text message and title got unvisible. If I change to other font-family it works correctly, just the embedded font doesn't work on Alert component. Anyone got this problem? Obs: The embedded font worked in all the app, just the Alert no.
I have generated an swf file that contains my embedded font of specified Unicode range, then I am loading this swf into my application. The code in the generated file for the font, automatically registers the font using the Font.registerFont method. I then load this swf file into my application, I never add it to the display list, I just created an instance of the file so that the code is executed to register the font.
Then I use the font name when I create embedded text fields and there you go it works... well it used to, I am not having any luck at the moment though. Sometimes it displays fine, other times it all appears cut off and I see a few pixels of the text I am trying to display.... Anyone else had a similar issue? Know what it might be? I have created a class below that I am using for the embedded font text, any issues people see with this?

View 2 RepliesI save my (embedded) fonts in an external file (fonts.swf) that gets loaded at runtime. Pretty standard. I also use a bunch of UI artwork generated in the Flash IDE. Some of this artwork contains static textfields (thus, not proper TextFields that can change. Just frozen glyphs). Here's the problem: if I use the same font in any static textfield and then embed that same font into my collection of runtime fonts, the runtime font will refuse to render. It's the same effect you get if you set a textfield with embeddedFonts=true to use a font that isn't embedded. If I change the static textfields to use a different font, the runtime fonts work just fine.

This is about fill in the blanks in flash 8 as2. In this i used input text fields and three buttons.In first frame i used multiple input text fields and a submit button. After filling all the blanks we click on submit button then in the second frame we will show the result like if the blank is correct it should change the color to green and if it is wrong it should change to red.and in the frame i have check button when we click on it will display all the answers. And when we click on analyse button we have to display the answer which the user types and the correct answers.And my problem is when we click on submit there is no difference in the blanks color all are in black only.
View 3 RepliesIs there a way to type HTML directly into a TextField in Flash CS4? I've created a TextField on the stage, set it to dynamic, set "Render text as HTML" and thought that I could then type HTML directly into the TextField and that it would be rendered as such. Instead it displays whatever HTML I type as regular text.
I assume then that the only way to get HTML into one of these fields is to dynamically load it into the TextField through the htmlText property. Is this right? And if so, what exactly is the purpose of having a "Render text as HTML" button in the first place? Couldn't I just load the HTML into the TextField through the htmlText property anyways?
Well, at any rate, I was really hoping to use as much of the flash interface for the project I'm working on, such that anyone who didn't know AS3 could easily update it themselves. Now it's looking like not only will they have to know AS3 and HTML, but also have to deal with the hassle of formatting what will potentially be a complex system of images, textfields, and videos all in AS3 with no visual interface.
Is it too much to ask to be able to just highlight some text and make it bold or italic? That's really all I need, sadly.
