ActionScript 3.0 :: Static Characters Not Embedding In Text Fields
Dec 10, 2010
I have all text fields set to static which supposedly has the characters embedded. However, when I open the file on a computer that does not have that font installed (Helvetica Neue) it is replaced with Time New Roman. I've read some articles about embedding on flash, but none of them seem to be quite clear about this. I have even tried to change the text fields from static to dynamic and embedding the glyphs, but it just doesn't look as good as when I have static text. Besides being a heck of a waste of time, since I would have to do it for all of the pages... This would be like 200 text fields or so..

I am having trouble embedding a font in my Flash file. I have the font in my library. I have the text field selected to that font with the * next to it. In my actions I have: vid_title_txt.embedFonts = true;
If I set it to false instead, it shows a different font. But if it is set to true, nothing shows.

I have an input text field with embedded fonts together with embedded special characters. I published my app on MAC, when I use my app on mac - all is fine all special characters are displayed correctly - but when I test it on Windows - special characters do not appear or I get wrong characters when I type. I'm confused - becase I have embedded fonts etc - and all should work but for some reason it does't...

I am having a hard time getting special characters such to show up in my text fields...I am trying to use IMPACT font and the texts tweens larger when the user mouses over it...and tweens back to normal when you mouse off...now I noticed that when I do not embed any characters...they will show up...but the tweening looks so bad and grainy...but when I embed the Upper Case, Lower Case, Numbers, and Punctuation those characters disappear...is there another set that I should be choosing to embed those special characters? Or do I have to manually enter those in?

I think the title says it all. I'm building website and I've come half way now just to notice that my clients cant see my font that supposed to be there. What I've learned so far is that in static text fields, flash should embed it itself since I can't reference to it + embedFonts property not working, how can I fix this problem? Anyone had anything similar?hat are common mistakes? I'm pretty new at all of this.

I've been struggling to get some text antialiased in a static text field in CS4. The text field is using an embedded font, with antialiasing set to "Anti-alias for readability".
The field is referring to the font symbol in the library and the symbol does not have bitmap text enabled.
When viewing the field itself, the text looks properly antialiased. The field is inside a graphic symbol. When I navigate out of the graphic symbol, the text loses its antialiasing. It is also not antialiased when published.
It has something to do with the font symbol, as it antialiases properly if I set the font to the actual font on the system. It's not a standard font though, so will need to be embedded.
The three images show the text in the text field, the symbol and the published swf.

I have a form for signing up for a email newsletter, requesting name, phone number, email, etc. However, for some reason, it won't allow me to enter "3" "4" or the "@" symbol in any of the textfields. You can see how that could be a problem.I'm working with a preexisting site, build by someone else. The SWF on the site doesn't have this problem, (it works fine) but when I create a new SWF from the FLA they got from the previous designer, I have these problems, even before I made any changes.
The site was built with something newer than Flash 8 (I couldn't open it with Flash 8), but older than CS5 (when I save a new version of the FLA, it tells me it will no longer be compatible with older versions of Flash) Could this be caused by that?
the code from the form:
Code:
stop ();
this.tabEnabled;
name.tabIndex = 1;
street.tabIndex = 2;

I'm trying to embed a handful of European language characters into a little flash news ticker (Swedish, Norwegian and some others).I'm embedding my swf file in the html and passing a FlashVars variable This is the text that the ticker displays.For some reason the swf doesn't render the character when I put a foreign character such as in the HTML. I have embedded all these fonts in the dynamic text box in my .fla Attached is the .fla and .html file where you can input the text for the swf to display.
PHP Code:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"><html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><head><meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /><title>Flashvars Example</title></head> <body> <p><object width="728" height="36" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"

I have to embed VAGRounded bold. I can't seem to get it to work reliably. I have created 4 dynamic text boxes, one for each of the 4 styles and embedded the characters into each one for the 4 versions of the font. I then wrote some text directly into the boxes on the stage.I created a 5th dynamic box and called it "test". I set the family to VAG ROunded, style:bold (ie just like one of the ones above). I then embedded the characters into it.I added this dead simple as2.[code]THis 5th text box looks NOTHING like the bold one from above, as you can see in the attached image.

So I've got a basic actionscript text generator:Additional details:(you'll probably need japanese font loaded to read this)what is supposed to look like "The sign readsnstead loads as "The sign reads I don't understand why the english aspect of the fonts are loading but the Japanese symbols are failing - even if I set up an off stage textbox with the same kanji symbols embedded.

I need to zoom in (therefore scale up) some static fields held in movieclips. They need to be BIG but when they are scaled up they lose some definition, looking a bit pixelated on the edges. Does anyone have any advice on how to keep them looking nice and smooth when they are scaled up?

What should I do to also embed special characters? I thought importing font symbols should take care of that?

Does anybody know how to force Flash to embed all neededcharacters when creating font symbol? When embedded font is used in textfields instead of device fonts a lot of characters stop to be accessible. IsFlash limited to use only with a couple of languages? What about rest of them?

Here the text is "Press â–²+â–¼ to reset it to default." But when I set testTF.embedFonts = true; up and down arrow is not shown in output. If you set the value to false, characters are shown.

I am having trouble embedding a font as bold using FB4. I am using TextLayout fields and TextLayoutFormat to do this and my code is as follows:
package {
import flash.display.Sprite;
import flash.text.AntiAliasType;
import flash.text.Font;
import flash.text.TextField;
[Code] .....
The font just displays as normal and the 'fontWeight' property is ignored.

When embedding fonts programmatically, (example here), is it possible to specify certain characters as you might if embedding within the Flash IDE?Here is my code so far, which simply embeds the font. It works, but I am assuming that it is embedding an entire character set.

package
{
import flash.display.MovieClip;
import flash.text.AntiAliasType;

Alright so lets say I have a number of movieclips or text fields or something with instance names test1, test2, test3 and so forth. Now say I want to fill these text fields with text that I have in an array and I want to do this with a loop, how do I do this? What I'm really asking is if there is a way to use a variable in an instance name if you catch my drift.

I'm having trouble with dynamically assigning text to a dynamically created text field.
[Code]...
I've tried setting up the TextFormat and createTextField as a function that's called on the onRelease handler. I've tried dropping the whole frackin' code in the onRelease function for each button. Neither approach works. I've been digging around on the web, looking for answers, and nothing seems to solve my problem.

I have a code that creates 10 dynamic text fields, along the "y" axis, based on a loop.
What I want to happen is, for each text field that is created, i want the numbers to constantly change based on a timer (they'll all change at the same time, but to random numbers).
Right now, the code below changes the numbers, but keeps stacking the new numbers on top of the old...
Code:
Code:
var timer:Timer = new Timer(100,0);//called every Xms, repeated infinately (0);
timer.addEventListener (TimerEvent.TIMER, doNumber);
timer.start ();

Basically I want to get the text fields in my Flash translated. To achieve this, I have the translations in a XML file and all text fields are dynamic. I read the XML (dependent on a language calling parameter from the HTML) and set the text fields like:
this["text_1"].text = "Hello";
The "text_1" and "Hello" are of course retrieved from the XML and I use variables in my code.
Now to the problem: I can successfully set the text field, that is visible in the Frame 1 (where my script is executed), but setting text fields that appear later give me an error. Translated it means something like Null Pointer not accessible. So I assume, that the this["text_x"] can not be found.
Is there a way to access it without copying the script into each text element? I have also thought about events, e.g. when the text is shown the first time and I do the translation then (would have to cache the XML at startup then to save time), but didn't find anything.
