I wanted to know how to connect my flash embedded in html to servlets or through javascript and get values from and send to servlets or through javascript. I expect some references or books as i am an amateur and may be i cant follow what u all say in brief.
View 1 RepliesI'm developing a Flex application that employs BlazeDS with Tomcat on the backend. The Flex client authenticates through the ChannelSet which in turn creates an authenticated session on Tomcat. From then on, all of the client calls are authenticated transparently. However, I have a regular HttpServlet for uploading files, which does not get the session information from the BlazeDS servlets.
Is there a way that I can get the Principal object in the HttpServlet? I know that I can get the session ID from the BlazeDS servlet, pass it to the client, and then send that along with the upload request.

My .NET developers are telling me to try to send two values from flash to .NET 3 times...so from .NET it will be send to the db.
is there really a need to send it 3 times?... can I just send it once?

View 4 RepliesI am in the planning stage of an application. In fact, the application already exists but I am thinking about how to improve it. It's a sports event commentary viewer- it allows the user to view live commentary on soccer games, written by news scouters during the process of the game. Right now, it's all one big file, reading 7 different XML files on the fly, evaluating and processing them and displaying the data on screen.
It works well enough like this but now the whole thing is supposed to be expanded with live news feeds and a videoclip gallery, etc... and even though it would be possible to just keep expanding the file, I thought it would be cool to instead make several segments and put them in an HTML frameset. Now the question is: Is it even possible to pass values from one flash file that is running in one frame- to another one, running in another frame? Of course I will know the framename- so could use getURL with the framename as a target... but that would fully reload that frame and "cold-restart" the swf in that frame- I don't want that.

friend and I are working on this Flash application that retrieves data from a IBM DB2 database and displays it. We read somewhere that Flash can't connect directly to a database, thus some middleware is required. So we are using JSP or servlets for our middleware. The problemIn our best (but limited haha) knowledge, we understand that we need to first declare an XML object, and then use a Load method to invoke a servlet that accesses the database and fills the XML object with records of the database. Finally it'll return the filled object back to Flash. Are we correct in this sense?Er, the problem is, we have no idea on how the servlet code works. We can successfully connect to the DB2 database and retrieve records, thoughBtw, we did try loading a XML file into a XML object. However, it's wierd. This is our XML file:

I've been trying to communicate flash and javascript some time now, but I can't get Javascript to send variables to flash, just the other way around. When the .swf is done loading, it succesfully triggers the "isReady" function in Javascript, but when i try to trigger the "sendToFlash" function in Flash(via javascript), nothing happens.
"thisMovie("myID").sendToFlash(toFlash);" this is the code I can't get to work, as you see I tried these to as well;

I'd like to enable the user to enter several parameters within the flash plugin. These influence the flash movie. The flash file itself works perfectly fine. But now I also want to access and process these parameters on a Javascript function.
I tried the external.Interface and navigatetoURL method but couldnt achieve the required result. (The 'link' between flash and javascript doesn't seem to work...)
