it is possible using Action Script 3.0 to allow a user to drop in videos / manipulate a text file to add or change videos/ text that feed to a media player, without doing it directly through the flash studio actions page. Ideally I would like to have a folder with the swf/fla file, all the video files, and perhaps a text file that alowed the user to manipulate the text of the video i.e. title/description Would it be easier to instead give that user a youtube like solution where they simply had the ability to upload/describe videos, through the webserver, rather than do it through a pc?

I'm building an swf that's suppose to work locally (offline).That swf is like a menu for some other swf that the user will download and will be prompted to put them in the same folder of the main swf.What I want to do is the main swf to be able to recognise which swf the user have downloaded in order to show them 'available' on main menu.Is there a way to check the folder destination for swf files or something?

I dont know if its the right forum for my post or not. But I need to ask if there is anyway to show the folder structure of a clients PC in flash when the user clicks on a browse button in a web site just like the one below? I googled for a "Multiple File Uploader using flash" but what I found there is that an open file window opens and we are able to select multiple files from it. I could not found anything like below. So my question is that whether we will be able toshow all the folder structure or not?

Due to reasons beyond my control, I need to be able to open an xml file located in a different folder on the same branch of the tree on a Windows client. The paths for the files are known; see example below.
Source Folder/File - D:mediasourcemovie.swf
Data Folder/FIle - D:mediadatadata.xml
Source Folder - This is the folder & file where the swf is located & executed from.Data Folder/File - This is the folder & file for the XML data file.How would I reference the XML data file path in AS2 to be executed by my source SWF?
i.e. - dataXML_xml.load("D:mediadatadata.xml");

I've got various flash files stored on my server. For this example - here is the directory structure:
Files > Example >
-> example.swf
-> example.xml
So then on a separate webpage stored in the root of my server.. I'm embedding the flash.
<param name="movie" value="[URL]">
Now the issue comes. Because the .swf is trying to access example.xml ... which is NOT stored in the root directory.

Now I know I'm not the only one seeking the ability to write a snazzy little Flash Application for SIP access. I am, however, the only one willing to start a neat little open source project to help, people like me, use SIP to its full potential.
So here it goes, I'd like (and hope) to write a SIP client for two projects. The first is a for-profit endeavor for the company I work for, and the second is a not-really-for-profit webservice I own that would have its customers benefit from on-site VoIP call. Since they both require the same thing, I'm willing to open it up as an open source project to allow it to continue growing.

I am using a local computer and will only be running the flash app on locals. I want users to have access to a gallery which I built with xml and to be able to add to the gallery. I thought I could do it with an append child to the xml but flash cant write to file. I was going to use filereference and then save the file in the flash folder and add the new object to the xml file, but this is the wrong route.

The following is my codes. This is still work in progress; so, you will see some functions with empty contents. Plus, this is my first Flex application; please bear with me. This is a quiz application that gets the questions and answers to each questions from a ColdFusion web service. There are three types of questions, True or False, Multiple Choice with single selection, and Multiple Choice with multiple selections. So, based upon the question type, the application would dynamically generate the appropriate amount of radio buttons or check boxes for the users to select. I got these working. The problem that I am having is, I am not sure how to check what the users have actually selected. In some other forums and posts on other web site, it said that I can use event.currentTarget.selectedValue to get the user selection. But when I actually do it, I got a run-time error saying, "Property selectedValue not found on mx.controls.FormItem and there is no default value." My question is, what do I need to do to capture the user selections?

I've had FMS running on my local machine for a while and have had a little experience writing FMS apps, but I've just tried recording audio for the first time using the standard vod application and I keep getting a "Write access denied for stream" error. My AS3 code is copied and pasted for various examples and am confident that it works.
I'm running Windows XP service pack 3 & FMIS 3.5.
I've had a look at the vod/media directory and under windows->properties the read-only attribute is ticked. Every time I un-tick this it reverts back to being ticked. I've googled this and MS say that most programs ignore the read-only attribute and that it only really applied to files. I've also tried the MS fix for setting the read-only attribute via cmd and still no joy (doesn't fix read-only attribute or FMS recording the audio after setting via cmd).
I've also tried our dev server install of FMS (running under linux) and am getting the same results.
Here's my AS3 code...
private function initApp(event:Event):void
{
removeEventListener(Event.ADDED_TO_STAGE,initApp);
[Code].....
