Actionscript 3 :: Communication Between Flex And Java?
Nov 9, 2011Is there any way a Adobe Flash Builder could call methods from a java class? Without any servers? just like a API where i could call use methods from java clasees?

View 2 RepliesI have a Flex AIR app, and i am trying to get data from a Java Server. Can some one tell me if this approach will work?
Start a ServerSocket in Java and wait for a connection. Use Flex to connect to the same port. Write some data to the socket from Java Server. Read the data at the Flex end and process it.
I think i am able to get this working, but the data that i read back at Flex end seems to be empty.
My server code is :
socket = new ServerSocket(port);
client = socket.accept();
InetAddress address = client.getInetAddress();
[Code].....
My current problem is socket.bytesAvailable becoming 0 and therefore obj is coming up as "". So how to read data sent from the server using a Socket in Flex?
Is it possible to call my ejbs from Flash actionscript?Also if my ejbs are returning List how will flash come to know about this class?
View 2 RepliesFor example, Flash records voice and sends it to the server where Java or C# apps can proccess it and return back some data (or write it to db). How this communication possible, which protocols sould be used and etc.
View 2 RepliesI'm bothering with Java-Flash communication. At the beggining, I used XML Socket Class, which was pretty easy to implement and my aplication comunicated very well.However, my program will monitor behavior of many users at the same time, so parsing and sending large xml files could overload Server. Thats why I used Socket class and AMF coding instead. After tough hours of implementing it, whole application seemed to work. Unfortunently, after couple of tests it apeard, that Socket was slower than XML Socket! I have no idea why, because in theory binary messages should be much faster than xml. Could you help me solving this issue? Below I pasted my code for both Java and AS3.
This code sends basic variables from class object and are received the same way (it can sound bit complicated compared to just sending whole object, but for various reasons is the only way).
1. Java client (java server receives data from different sources and sends it to flash):
Code: public void sendMyPosition(MyPositionMessage message, Socket sock) throws IOException
{
synchronized (sock) {[code].....
2. Flash server - new data triggers socketDataHandler which receive it with readReasponse function. First int describes which kind of message was send, although there is only one at the moment. I've deleted some handlers couse they seemd irrelevant this case. Whole AS Class is attached as a file.
Code:
public class CustomSocket extends Socket {
private var currentMessage:int = -1;
private var message:Object = null;[code]................
We are using GraniteDS autogenerated AS code to map Java remote objects to AS.
We have objects that contain List sites in Java so when they are converted to AS it looks like:
JAVA: private List<MyObject> territories;
Actionscript: private var _territories:ListCollectionView;
The trouble is we are using MXML databinding to bind the contents of that list generically, the trouble is we never reference the type of object contained in the list explicitly so it's never compiled into our SWF is there any way to ensure that objects in a list for a RemoteClass is compiled in?
We want to build the web-based softphone using SIP technology And we want to use the Asterisk as the Communication server and Java as primary technology in building the system so we have got following flash based softphone using Adobe Flash,FMG,FMS flex based softphone using Flex , Red5 Server we are also reseraching into MjSIP and PjSIP

To clarify when I ask about browser to browser communication I mean without a server in between forwarding message. I would like to implement something like this for a game. If p2p in websockets isn't possible are there similar alternatives?
View 1 RepliesI tried with flex and java in the backend. In this, I am able to upload files till 100 MB using remote object (blazeDs) where we will read the file as byte array and send it to the java method. If the file size exceeds after that, then I get the run time error in IE.
View 1 RepliesI could play MIDI file where "filename" is a String type with "asd.mid" value. However, I tried to sent AIR's nativeprocess command to Java, it shown "could not read" error.

Meaning specifically, what steps do you go through when creating a new application using these tools?
View 1 RepliesI am using Flex 3 and make a call through a RemoteObject to a Java 1.6 method and exposed with BlazeDS and Spring 2.5.5 Integration over a SecureAMFChannel. The ActionScript is as follows (this code is an example of the real thing which is on a separate dev network);

I'm building a Facebook multiplayer game where the client side is in FLEX and the server side is in Java and I wanted to know if there is a guide on how to build the server clients managing system. When I say server clients managing system, I mean a server which many clients will connect to and will be able to choose between tables to join and play or to create their own table, same way as in texas holdem poker.
View 1 Repliesi am working on a flex+java combined project.My IDE and computer configuration is as follows:
[Code]...
When i make a small change in Flex code (eg, reposition of a button...anything), and run the project on server, it does make any change on output. Actually it depends on my luck... because it makes change in output randomly.what is is happening? tried rebuild, republish, clean , restart server, restarting the IDE, restarting the computer all available feature i could think. Also, i created a simple flex project on IDE and compiled it..... everything is compiled and displayed on output.
Right away i just try to explain my problem: Using BlazeDS i got the following Javaclasses:
[Code]...
Then i got a Flex service class calling BlazeDS and executing the getCategories java method. Since Flash dosn't seem to understand typed arrays, the result from that method which i get back in flex is a simple array of untyped objects (the mapping dosn't seem to work here, even tought the class category exists in flex and has the same properties).
thats the first thing. but however, i'm converting the untyped objects manually into objects of the category.as class. the second thing is that categories have child-categories within the java object, which are also ArrayLists of the type category.java. the problem about that: my result event object only contains the first level of categories, looking into them the children are allways null. i dunno why they are empty, since they ARE part of the java object category.
and the third thing (the strangest by fast), you maybe noticed i named the properties of the category.java class strange, like idCat and nameTest instead of simply id and name. why that? because the property names of my flex result objects dont seem to change when i change the java objects properties names (result object properties are named "id" and "name" but the java class object properties are named "idCAT" and "nameTEST"). that it REALLY strange, since if i set the properties, like you see at nameTEST = "TESTNAME" it IS recogniced by flex, only the proertyNAMES dont seem to be recognized at all.

I am newer with flex technology.I am creating a chart using ant file & .mxml in eclipse my 'ant' file executes properly but it gives following error when i opens a .swf file which is created auomatically:
Flex Error #1002: Flash Player 9.0.115 and above is required to support signed RSLs. Problem occurred when trying to load the RSL

we are using BlazeDS as a proxy between Flex and Java. The approach is the same as in

I'm coding a web app in flex blazeds and Java. I installed the Eclipse plugins for using WTP mixed project. I'm using flex's server that uses an emulate of tomcat when i ran my flex service the web app got the datas, everythings is ok. the problem is when i copy the project with all files generated by flex in my tomcat or the blazeds's tomcat, it doesn't work, this is becasue i want to implement my app on a server the error is:[code]
i don't know why tomcat doesn't find the class of flex.messaging.endpoints.AMFEndpoint that is used for my-amf 'URL...'. all works well in the emulated server that flex has.
i hava two text boxs in flex.have to add two txt boxs values in back end java and have to return back to third text box in flex.

There are many dynamic languages that target Sun's JVM (Groovy, Scala, Jython, Jruby etc) and I was sure there are many that target Adobe's AVM as well. But I was surprised to find only haXe do something similiar. related question on this site
I think the eclipse e4 SWT project doesn't compile to ABC (ActionScript Byte Code) directly, but first converts Java to AS3 and then the Flex compilter does the rest.Could it be that no one yet wrote a simple Java / Python / Scala AVM2 compiler that can be used as an alternative to the proprietary Adobe Flash Builder (formerly Flex Builder)?I don't mind paying Adobe for a fine producy, but writing Java in eclipse is so much faster and convinent than the half baked adobe plugin suite. are there really no efforts other than haXe?
i was developed one .net application. It contains flash animation in one of the asp pages. And i need to write action script code for playing and pausing that swf file. I am using flex builder3. However how can i execute the asp application from flex builder? How can i load asp page into mxml file?
View 1 RepliesI have 2 flex apps on the same page. I want them to be able to call each other's public functions. I am thinking of using either externalInterface calls or FaBridge to do so.
View 2 RepliesI have two web applications written in Flex I would like to integrate. I would like one Flex app (let's call it application A) to invoke second Flex app (let's call it application B). Application A has access only to swf file of application B (not source code). When application A invokes application B, it should be able to pass some data to application B. After application B is invoked it should be able to pass some data back to application A. These two applications will be hosted on the same server, but will use different server code.
The easiest way of implementing this (or one of the ways to be more precise) would be to have UI element on app A (button, link, menu item, etc) that would invoke app B. But in that case, two Flex applications couldn't communicate directly (since only one is active at a time), and they would have to communicate through server code, which is something I would like to avoid.
In short application A should invoke application B, pass some data to it. Application B should do it's work, display some content, and have a mean of passing some data back to application A. I'm aware of LocalConnection, and I've seen similar question, but in that case I would have to have both application in the same browser window. This would be acceptable to some extend, but only if app B is contained in app A (not if they are both on the same HTML page). Would LocalConnection work in that case?
Do you have any recommendations on how to implement this kind of communication?
Ok, modules in Flex are popular but I have no idea why documentation and examples on the different uses of Flex modules can be so scarce.Anyway, for this question, I will take the classic Employee/Department example. I have a main.mxml that contains an mx:TabNavigator. Each tab is loaded by an s:ModuleLoader.Tables: Employees {empID,empName,deptID}, Deparments {deptID,deptName}The Tab Navigator contains only one tab (for our example) called Employee. I have an Employee.mxml module. In that module, I have a datagrid that is populated with Employee details. I use the getEmployees($deptID) function. This function, as you may guess, returns me an array of Employees who work in a particular department.
Outside the TabNavigator, I have a departmentDropDownList that is populated with departments.deptName.My objective is to load the Employee module when I select a particular department from the DropDownList. I have a changeHandler for the DropDownList that can give me the deptID.
protected function departmentDropDownList_changeHandler(event:IndexChangeEvent):void
{
MyDeptID=departmentDropDownList.selectedItem.deptID;
[code].....
Can someone recommend me a good example of Adobe air and REST API communication and authentication?
View 1 RepliesI use C# to read a string (BinaryReader.ReadString()) from the socket stream. But the problem is that flex doesn't writes the string in suitable format, so C# will be able to read that. C# reads a 7 bit encoded integer which indicates the length of the string, and just then reads the string. But flex doesn't writes a string in this format (I use socket.WriteUTF(), and even socket.WriteUTFBytes() didn't work), so C# can't read the string. Here's a little information of how C# reads/writes a string from a socket stream:

I'm currently developing a Flex game which is a kind of table and cards game. Thinking about developing other games using entities from this one, I chose for creating my entities decoupled from the game and even from other game entities. As a result, I'm currently using events for communication between my game entities.
Game entities, in my case, refers for example a player hand component which can receive a card, or send a card to another unknown component by a custom requesting and dealing events. For instance, the same can happens to a deck of cards holder component. This approach appeared to be a good designer in the beginning, but after some time, my game controller class has a lot of event handler functions which started looking bad for me.
My current idea is to create a game event manager coupled with my game controller for handling events and cleaning the controllers code. Finally, I'm not sure about my design decision exposed above, so I would like to know about you folks which communication design would be indicated for this kind of a game.
I have a Flex/AIR application communicating with a PHP server application. Recently my client requested real-time-like connectivity between the applications to replace what we currently have; refresh buttons which have to be clicked to refresh data.So effectively the server needs to push data to the client when something changes. I can write the code that detects when something changes, but I'm not sure about the push side of things.
View 4 RepliesWhat's the best way to communicate between 2 Flex/Flash apps on the same webpage? I need a 3rd party Flash app to call a function on my Flex 4 app (they are ready to customize their 3rd party app how I specify). I use ExternalInterface.call("javascript_function", arguments) extensively. I know there's a bridge to go from Javascript to Actionscript as well. So I guess I could go from their flash app -> javascript function -> flex bridge -> my flex app. Do I have to go through javascript? Is there a better way?
