Mar 14, 2011I'm trying to read some data in from a sql source, some of which contains double quotes embedded in the text. I know I can strip the doublequotes, but don't want to go that route if I can avoid it. I've tried replacing to double quotes with hex codes before passing the text via parameter to my flash file, but the text string always cuts off at the hex code, the same as if the double quote were present in the string. Jun 2, 2011I love MXML but am starting to notice some of its drawbacks. The main one I'm struggling with is its larger memory usage due to the need for binding. In the super simple code snippet below, which I've tested on Flex 4.0[code]...
My main question: is there any way to set variables in MXML that doesn't eat up memory? I'm aware that I can do this explicitly in AS and keep MXML as a bare bone structure but was wondering if there was an alternative path.
Secondary question: why memory usage in c different from a and b? I've looked up at the intermediate code and it seems like the const case still sets up some binding logic but not as much and have been wondering why that is.

Feb 19, 2010I have Flex application requiring to filter users depending on there database groups.Depending on which group they are, the're is a config.xml file that is use to populate the swf.Here is how I figure how to do this : 1. The client comes to a .aspx page with a form requiring a username and a password. 2. On the server side I confirm the user credential . Once the username/password is valid I redirect to the mxml file with the config.xml file in the html headers (post).My problem comes when I need to get the post data from the http request. Let's say I have this code :

Actionscript :: Flex 3: Data Assignment To A Subcomponent Fails In An MXML Component
Aug 26, 2009I'm trying to propagate an assignment to the data parameter of a sub-component through it's parent component's setter. Like this:

When I ran my application, the sub-component never received its data. When debugging and stepping to the line marked "ref #1", the debugger jumps out of the method and continues on to something else as if the method was complete. It seems like some exception or error was thrown but the console gives no indication of what is wrong with this assignment.
Environment: This is using Flex SDK 3.2, with the Flex Builder 3 plugin for Eclipse on Windows, with Flash 9 Debug ver. for IE7.
Note: With this particular example I'm trying to avoid Binding on purpose. I mean, why can't I manually push the data to the sub-component rather than binding it?

Data Integration :: Getting A .swf To Read Xml
Apr 16, 2008I have a slideshow.swf (I cannot change it contents, there is no .fla) which gets input from slideshow.xml and finds pictures to display in a folder called 'images' . Pretty basic for a flash picture gallery.
The problem: I want to load the slideshow.swf into a loader component in another flash movie, say holiday.fla. (So i have the loader component in holiday.fla and I tell it to load the movie slideshow.swf). How can i tell the slideshow.swf file where to find its data e.g. slideshow.xml? or How can i have slideshow.swf read from slideshow.xml?

Mar 17, 2011I'm trying to read json data from a web service. The problem is that it seems URLLoader always return the data as XML so I can't decode the json string.
This is my code :

not surprisingly i get an error on the json decode because as far as i can see using trace, i get xml data.Also i tried to run it on the browser, didn't help. Also tried to set the content type in the request to 'application/json', but it gave me an error.Even though i googled it, i couldn't fint what is the problem in my as3 code. It seems to me it should have worked.

Dec 12, 2010I want to create a flash swf file that will store a token in Local Shared Object. What do I need to do to read that token and look it up in the database on the back end? Is this possible at all?
here is a possible scenario:
User visits my web page A token is generated on the server and stored in the database Token is then saved in LSO User leaves the site (maybe shuts down his computer) and comes back later Token is read, located in the database and the user is recognized (lets say that token is a foreign key that links to other user data stored in the db)
I researched this for quite a while and all I find is that flash can use LSO to store read data for flash movie... Does this mean that the data can not be accessed by the server?
ActionScript 3.0 :: XML Data Read By AS3 Being Cached By Browsers
Sep 29, 2008We have a flash app (AS3) that reads some data from a local XML file and displays it in a cool way. The problem is that the browser(s) seem to cache this XML data, i.e. when we revisit the page containing the flash, it is rendered using out of date data (the XML file is updated regularly). We find we must visit the URL of the actual XML file and hit refresh (CTRL+F5) to get the new XML to load, and then go back to the page with the flash to see it rendered with the up-to-date data. Is there a way to remedy this? Perhaps the solution is like the one used to prevent caching of Javascript, i.e. appending a random GET param to the URL?
