This time I get an error in Flex:

Professional :: Read From And Write To Remote Data File?
Sep 27, 2010I have two variables that I would like to store in a remote data file which can be accessed by my Flash file. It is for a voting system, so the first variable would be a counter that is incremented each time a user votes, and the second would be the total rating. The average rating would then be calculated from these.
How would one store, retrieve, and then update these variables from the data file?
I can create the system within a single Flash file for a single session, but obviously I'd like multiple users opening the file simultaneously to be able to access the data and update it.

Mar 19, 2012i'm trying to perform simple automated test on my Adobe Air Application. I decide to store some test data in external MS Excel file to decrease hardcode quantity. But I discovered, that this is not a trivial task, when you're working with Adobe Air.
Actually, i need to correct initialize an excelApp object, the rest part of logger is already implemented. I tried the following approach, but I can't find a package with ActiveXObject class defined.

Aug 31, 2009I need to read data from a file after a user has selected a file using a file browser, for a Flex web app (NOT AIR). I know this is possible in Flash 10 using the FileReference class load and data methods. But using Flash 10 is not an option for me. So does anyone know of anyway I can do this in Flash 9?

Feb 3, 2011I'm developing a web application with Flash CS5 and AS3.0. The problem I'm having is this:At a certain state, the application goes to a frame with a "loading..." animation that loops continuously until the next state is reached. The animation is inside a MovieClip that lives on this frame on the stage (I'm not creating or animating it dynamically). While in this state, the app is waiting to receive a large xml file from an XmlSocket connection. The file takes a few seconds (literally - not milliseconds) to be received fully by the Flash player, and during this time the loading animation stops. I believe the socket is blocking the animation thread until it's done receiving the entire file.Does anyone know of a workaround that would allow the animation to keep playing while the socket is receiving? I've seen pseudo-threading hacks, but those always deal with computations or other activities that can be accomplished by calling a call-back function multiple times. Since I'm just listening on an open socket, there's no callback I could pass to a pseudo-thread.

I know I can strip the doublequotes, but don't want to go that route if I can avoid it. I've tried replacing to double quotes with hex codes before passing the text via parameter to my flash file, but the text string always cuts off at the hex code, the same as if the double quote were present in the string. The idea is that an animater will create an animation, the code will record the animation as it plays, then the numberd that have been saved can be used later. x, y, rotation, xScale and yScale all did swimmingly well. skewX and skewY come out as undefined, on every frame. They're both used in the movie (typically around 4 - 8 degrees). They're never the same as each other.

Apr 16, 2008I have a slideshow.swf (I cannot change it contents, there is no .fla) which gets input from slideshow.xml and finds pictures to display in a folder called 'images' . Pretty basic for a flash picture gallery.
The problem: I want to load the slideshow.swf into a loader component in another flash movie, say holiday.fla. (So i have the loader component in holiday.fla and I tell it to load the movie slideshow.swf). How can i tell the slideshow.swf file where to find its data e.g. slideshow.xml? or How can i have slideshow.swf read from slideshow.xml?

I've used Authowrware previously and it was quite easy to create a large string of data (a comma separated list) and export that to a text file (and create the text file if it didn't already exist). I could then easily append additional rows of data (records) to the text file. We want to build a questionnaire that will store the data locally on the computer in a text file. Each record may have a few hundred data points in a comma separated list.
