View 1 RepliesI am trying to write a piece of code to retreive data from a SOL file : this is my code :[CODE]//get External interfaceimport flash.external.*;

How can that be ? what can I do ? What am I doing wrong ?(bear with me, as I said, I'm kind AS newbie).
read a local shared object with a servlet even if there is no flash present on a page? I want to set a local shared object like a cookie, and then access it again from a page that doesn't have a flash movie.If I can't do this, is it standard to have the initial flash movie call an external javascript to set a traditional cookie that can later be read?
View 1 RepliesMy problem is that i have a flash movie with has a link to another flash movie. I want both of them to read from the same shared object. I know it violates the funda of shared objects. Is there some way of doin this.Both these movies run from a Tomcat Web server within the same domain.

View 2 RepliesI have a main swf file and config.xml located in the same directory. My .swf file uses config.xml to fetch config variable which it does with success.The problem appears when I put those files into Flex directory. I embed .swf file like this.
<mx:Image id="loading" source="@Embed('/blobs/visualLogo/mySwfFile.swf')"
visible="true" horizontalCenter="0"/>
I also place config.xml into /blobs/visualLogo/
This time I get an error in Flex:
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.

I have only ben using flash for a little while and do not know a lot about action scripts.I have used a flash file found online which plays music and has a mute button, but at present it plays the music when the page is viewed at another time.So need to have a cookie or shared obect as i have been told it is, so that when the music tries to play it can read the mute state cookie to decide if it should play or not.i see i can not upload a file so have uploaded to the following location

View 1 Repliesi'm trying to perform simple automated test on my Adobe Air Application. I decide to store some test data in external MS Excel file to decrease hardcode quantity. But I discovered, that this is not a trivial task, when you're working with Adobe Air.
Actually, i need to correct initialize an excelApp object, the rest part of logger is already implemented. I tried the following approach, but I can't find a package with ActiveXObject class defined.
excelApp = new ActiveXObject("Excel.Application");
I need to read data from a file after a user has selected a file using a file browser, for a Flex web app (NOT AIR). I know this is possible in Flash 10 using the FileReference class load and data methods. But using Flash 10 is not an option for me. So does anyone know of anyway I can do this in Flash 9?
View 0 RepliesI'm creating a small app to run from CD-Rom/local installation that will use multiple shared objects for data storage. To ensure proper saving without surprising the user with a permissions dialog unexpectedly, I'd like to request unlimited data storage on first time app launch - Joey Lott shows how to do this in the Actionscript Cookbook... request=mySO.flush(1024 * 500);
My question is,Can I perform this permissions request with the user a single time with a generic app SO in global fashion, so that the permissions would be set for any SOs created during the use of the product (all written to same SO directory),or do I have to request
permissions for each and every SO created? Since the latter would be unacceptable from a UE standpoint, that means stuffing all app data into a single SO which doesn't seem so great from a data config perspective...
I'm using a loader for people to use to upload their own images for a background, and I want it to remember the image the next time they come to the page, so is there any way to save the loader data in a shared object? I haven't tried just using something like
Code:
sharedObject.data.dataName=loader
because I assume it doesn't work that way.
I have a client that is running a 64 bit system. On my 32 bit system my Shared Object writes the data without a problem but theres hangs when the call is made to write the data. Any ideas how to go about solving this problem? I would think it would not matter if the system is 32 or 64.
View 1 RepliesI need to store data locally (not in shared obj), can I write xml file directly without dialog box or any other methods..?.
View 2 RepliesI'm wondering if it's possible to access a shared object's data (once it's been changed) without reloading the swf. Specifically, I have two swfs: one changes the data in the so and lets the second swf "know" via a localconnection. I have a function in the second swf that fires via the local connection.[code]This function looks for the new value however it doesn't show the updated value in my textfield unless I refresh the browser. Thoughts?
View 1 RepliesI have 2 swf that will be loaded on a website. One suppose to generate a bytearray and being passed over to another swf.
The problem is that when I save the bytearray to a SharedObject in user's local file, the second swf doesn't get the updated variable value from the first swf.
I've set the second swf to retrieve the value every one second and it don't get updated until I reload the page.
I flushed and close the connection to make sure the data is saved on the local path and that is not helping as well.
I also considered using LocalConnection as well but there is a bug in flash player for mac that stopping it to work between swfs on mac. Left me no choice but to use SharedObject for my project.
I am new to ActionScript. I am designing a calendar with schedule just like outlook calendar. I have 30 or 31 small text boxes for each month. I would like to save data in the text boxes so that data remains in that even when the file is closed. I used the following code and it works fine.
[Code]....
My question is, I have totally more than 360 text boxes for 12 months. How can I save all data using shared object? I tried loop, Array and function with the above code. But it did not work. You can also tell me if there is any other way to save data using PHP MySQL or ASP? If so how to do that?
I'm trying to loop through each of the arrays stored in a Shared Object and place the individual array items inside rows of textfields. This isn't quite working - it fills all the text fields with the last data array only:
Code:
var elemSharedObject:SharedObject = SharedObject.getLocal("elementChoices", "/");
//Load data into fields
for (var prop in elemSharedObject.data) {
[Code]....
I need a way to increment "elemSharedObject.data[prop]" after it's filled each successive row of textfields.
I'm using Flash and AS3 to write an app for iOS and for Android and I'm saving XML-data using shared objects. Now it struck me that when I supply an update to the app store and the user updates the app, will the shared objects remain intact or will they be replaced? I'd very much like them to remain as they were.
View 1 RepliesI would like to get the content of a shared object (flash cookie) generated by a player, or more precisely by quizzes generated by Articulate Quizmaker.I know where is generated that cookie, I just would like to get the content of a variable inside. But impossible to access it :sI tryed :
var user_so:SharedObject = SharedObject.getLocal("nameOfTheCookie");
if(! user_so.flush()) // sends a boolean, true if the cookie exists

I have a Flash Form that is fairly long (about 8 short pages), so I have set the form up so that it can be reviewed when the filler-outer is done and they are ready to submit it. I'm using a Shared Object to store the information they enter so they won't lose their information if they hit refresh or need to come back later.
If they go back to the page with comboboxes on it, the comboboxes have reset to the default. The answer and data in the SO haven't changed, but it looks like it to the consumer/viewer.
So, I'd like for the boxes to display the choice they picked when they were on that page. I need use the value from the database to show the particular value in the ComboBox whenever the user returns to that page.
It is quite simple to do it, you write the object down to file, then you read it:

I am wondering if it is possible to get the data that is stored in a shape/graphics object in flash using actionscript 3?
In my project I would like to be able to draw a shape and then read all the points in that shape into my script. The reason for that is that I need go generate lines from those points that I later can use to check if my characters velocity intersects with any of them.
I have been trawling around forums for hours now and the only was to save information LOCALLY in Flash seems to be using the SharedObject stuff. which is fine. BUT I am making a project which is meant to be entirely run from a memory stick i.e. portable. So, I was thinking it would be good to save the information from the flash to a SharedObject .sol file and then to copy the .sol file to the memory stick, then load the information back into the flash file from the copy of the .sol file on the memory stick!
Dont know if this is possible, but I need to some how save information created in the flash file stored on a memory stick (which will be text and possibly an image which would be loaded from the users pc) to a file on the memory stick and then next time the flash file is run, load all of the information back in!
I know all this stuff is possibly using PHP etc. but as I am running it from a memory stick on a pc which probable wont have internet access.
!--Does anyone know if it possible to save the local shared object(.sol) file at a desired location or to embed it within the flash movie?
2--Is it possible to create an image file at runtime from a flash projector file?
I want creating an interactive cd rom using xls file, is it possible to read data on an swf animation from an excel file?
View 5 RepliesI have two variables that I would like to store in a remote data file which can be accessed by my Flash file. It is for a voting system, so the first variable would be a counter that is incremented each time a user votes, and the second would be the total rating. The average rating would then be calculated from these.
How would one store, retrieve, and then update these variables from the data file?
I can create the system within a single Flash file for a single session, but obviously I'd like multiple users opening the file simultaneously to be able to access the data and update it.
I created a very simple experiment to attempt to access the same shared object in Flash Player and AIR.
A Flash SWF creates a local shared object.
A AIR application (being tested from CS3 or installed) opens the same shared object.
The data does not persist. Is this theoretically possible?
I'm trying to learn shared objects by attempting a basic function. I would like to have an .sol file remeber what buttons are clicked on by a user and assign an alphavalue for the buttons that have been clicked. Here's what I have..
