I write object in a file. first i convert the object to bitmap data then i write it in a file. Now I want to read object from the file so that it returns the original object. How can i do this?
View 1 Replieswhat I meen is to get all objects and their properties, is it possible? How to do such thing?
View 2 RepliesHere's the example:
var cartesian:CartesianChart = new CartesianChart();
cartesian.width = 100;
var column:ColumnChart = new ColumnChart();
column = cartesian as ColumnChart;
Why does this not work? "column" ends up null. ColumnChart is a derived class of CartesianChart, so I would have thought I'd end up with a ColumnChart with a width of 100.
How can i cast a object to another type? in AS3 i tried putting (objectType) infront of the variable but it doesnt work, below i have added objects of fishes into the child, and i am getting the fishes back out when mouse down is triggered, and then calling the fishes what to do. however i cant call the method of the custom class fish because it is a displayobject.[code]...
View 1 RepliesA friend of mine has a Flash Action script running on a LAMP server that currently reads an xml config file. He's asked me if it's possible to remove the xml file, and replace it somehow with a system (lets call it an 'auto xml generator') that intercepts the request to read that file and generates an output, so it appears to all intents and purposes as if the file still exists and contains the contents that has actually been returned from our auto xml generator'
View 3 RepliesIn my app i am pushing data into an array collection. When I debug or trace the AC i get [object Object].
public var newsDB:ArrayCollection = new ArrayCollection;
then I add to the AC here.
if(archive.selected == true){
newsDB.addItem( {
title: titleText.label,
clickURL: clickURL.text,
[Code]....
When I debug, i can see that the items are in the AC, but as generic objects.
I have a main swf file and config.xml located in the same directory. My .swf file uses config.xml to fetch config variable which it does with success.The problem appears when I put those files into Flex directory. I embed .swf file like this.
<mx:Image id="loading" source="@Embed('/blobs/visualLogo/mySwfFile.swf')"
visible="true" horizontalCenter="0"/>
I also place config.xml into /blobs/visualLogo/
This time I get an error in Flex:
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.

I'm currently trying to communicate between java and flex by using sockets and AMF serialized objects.
On the java side I use Amf3Input and Amf3Output from BlazeDS (flex-messaging-common.jar and flex-messaging-core.jar).
The connection is correctly established, and if i try to send object from flex to java, i can easily read objects :
FLEX side :
protected function button2_clickHandler(event:MouseEvent):void
{
var tmp:FlexAck = new FlexAck;
tmp.id="123456789123456789123456789";
[Code]....
So I just started using JASON to make my application data driven. I'm not doing any encoding, only decoding (I encoded once to create an example data layout). My question is, how come I can't cast the data that I read in into the object that it is? I know that question is useless without an example so here goes:This is my data class that I encoded once to create an example JSON file.
ActionScript Code:
public class ButtonData
{
[code].....
I want to read an xml file placed in the same folder as the swf. Note however there is no webserver running.
<![CDATA[
private var my_req:URLRequest = new URLRequest("assets/GmetadOutput.xml");
private var loader:URLLoader;
public function startup():void {
output.text="CheckPoint1"; //This is the only output that displays!
[code]...
So on the on CreationComplete event i call startup(); The Checkpoint1 output displays but none of the other checkpoints are reached? how to read a file placed in the same folder as the swf file!
Another Adobe AIR question for you: Can we write files to the file system and leave them as read-only in Adobe AIR? In the future, we would overwrite these files (or delete them and write a new one).
Update: I tried the following approach, but I was still able to open the file, edit, and save to the file system after the process executed.

I want to make a registration page with Flex. The data will be stored to text file. Is it possible?
View 4 RepliesI created a tile map editor for my game and it will generate a file when the user is done with the design. The file will store the assets used and other information.this is the code on how i generate the file

I want to retrieve file's binary content using flex but failed. Here is the code so far:
// ActionScript file
package source.fileApi{
import flash.display.Sprite;
import flash.external.ExternalInterface;
[Code].....
But this did not give me the binary content of the file.. how to retrieve the full binary content of the given file using Flex (I am using FP 10.0).....
I have an action script Object that contains an array collection of other object, both objects are reflects of the Java Objects which are the database tables represented as beans, i am using blazeds spring hibernate... the regular configurations for flex RIA with java backend server language, all other objects work perfectly, but this time i needed to get this data from the client side and i do, but when i get into the Set represented as array collection in client side i get this error! both classes work for other situations, mapping is ok for these classes, i suspect that i need to convert the array collection on the server side.
View 1 RepliesI have to browse for and open a file in AIR. I can access the file via the File class:
var file:File = File.applicationStorageDirectory.resolvePath("somefile.txt");
var stream:FileStream = new FileStream();
stream.open(file, FileMode.READ);
And I can browse for a file via the FileReference class:
var fileRef:FileReference = new FileReference();
fileRef.browse(allTypes);
But I cannot seem to get the file from the FileReference object into the File object.
There is no "path" member exposed when debugging the FileReference after opening it
I'm trying to get two different apps to communicate through a file. I would like app 1 to append some text to a file, and app 2 to notice, and read the new bytes (not the whole file). There is an event, ProgressEvent.PROGRESS, that is supposed to fire when new data is available on a FileStream, but it only fires when I first open the file. Basically, I would like to leave the FileStream open, listening like a socket on the end of that file for changes.
View 3 RepliesI'm trying to read a xml file from client. After search for it. I have got to upload the file to the server with this code.
var imagesFilter:FileFilter = new FileFilter("*.jpg,*.gif,*.png", "*.jpg;*.gif;*.png;*.jpeg");
fileRef.browse([imagesFilter]);
But what I want to do is to read the file from client and parse it without uploading it to the server.
I use the following to upload a file to Flex:
private var filer:FileReference;
protected function button1_clickHandler(event:MouseEvent):void
{
var fd:String = "Files (*)";
[code]....
And my file looks like this:
[URL]
I need to read the uploaded file and parse it. The problem is that in my e.currentTarget.data.toString(); I get only '1' and not the rest of the String. how to successfully read this entire txt file?
Flash Builder generated AppName-app.xml descriptor for every AIR project. There are a number of settings, values there, including below. Is it possible to read these in your code without explicitly loading this XML at runtime (even this I don't know if it's possible)? Maybe Loader.info or similar?
<!-- The name that is displayed in the AIR application installer.
May have multiple values for each language. See samples or xsd schema file. Optional. -->

I need to know how to read .xlsx file contents in flex3.
I tried to read .xlsx file using the below sample code but its not working, but its working fine for .xls file.[code]...
i'm trying to perform simple automated test on my Adobe Air Application. I decide to store some test data in external MS Excel file to decrease hardcode quantity. But I discovered, that this is not a trivial task, when you're working with Adobe Air.
Actually, i need to correct initialize an excelApp object, the rest part of logger is already implemented. I tried the following approach, but I can't find a package with ActiveXObject class defined.
excelApp = new ActiveXObject("Excel.Application");
I need to read data from a file after a user has selected a file using a file browser, for a Flex web app (NOT AIR). I know this is possible in Flash 10 using the FileReference class load and data methods. But using Flash 10 is not an option for me. So does anyone know of anyway I can do this in Flash 9?
View 0 Repliesyou can access Local File System in Flex and that too with a standard SWF without resorting to Adobe Air.Check out the link below for full details and the SWf
View 0 RepliesI want to read data from an xml file (say located in c: drive of my computer)I am programming in flex 4.0. Normally when I take data from a Url I use http service. I do not want to use AIR.
View 0 RepliesWhat is the best way to open and parse and excell file from a Flex Application built using Adobe Flash Builder 4.5. I have done tons of research, most lead me to external libraries, I could deal with that if that is the best approach, but prefer a built in method.
View 3 RepliesI am creating some application in flex and one of my purposes is to read content of file and display it in flex. There is huge problem, when I have file written in polish (which contains some special characters) because amfphp transfers this contents few seconds, which is to long (reading and sending content of file without any polish character if fast).My php code reads any files fast, so problem is on amfphp side. Is there any solution or I have to go with HTTPService and load contents of file directly from flex?
View 1 RepliesSo I've tried to build a small utility to view the contents of a JSON file in an easy-to-understand manner (for non-tech people).I have Googled far and wide, high and low, but every example that shows how to consume a JSON file in Flash Builder uses the HTTP service, pointing to a file on the web.Here I am, sitting in front of my MacBook, wondering why I can't make this work. In the documentation I've found (sort of relating to this issue), they always show Windows examples, and they seem to work fine:That doesn't work. I've tried some "resolve to path" syntax, but the HTTP service does not seem to allow for anything but file paths in quotes.
