Flex :: Filereference - Read The Uploaded File And Parse It?
Sep 27, 2010
I use the following to upload a file to Flex:
private var filer:FileReference;
protected function button1_clickHandler(event:MouseEvent):void
{
var fd:String = "Files (*)";
[code]....
And my file looks like this:
[URL]
I need to read the uploaded file and parse it. The problem is that in my e.currentTarget.data.toString(); I get only '1' and not the rest of the String. how to successfully read this entire txt file?

I'm trying to read a xml file from client. After search for it. I have got to upload the file to the server with this code.
var imagesFilter:FileFilter = new FileFilter("*.jpg,*.gif,*.png", "*.jpg;*.gif;*.png;*.jpeg");
fileRef.browse([imagesFilter]);
But what I want to do is to read the file from client and parse it without uploading it to the server.

I have to browse for and open a file in AIR. I can access the file via the File class:
var file:File = File.applicationStorageDirectory.resolvePath("somefile.txt");
var stream:FileStream = new FileStream();
stream.open(file, FileMode.READ);
And I can browse for a file via the FileReference class:
var fileRef:FileReference = new FileReference();
fileRef.browse(allTypes);
But I cannot seem to get the file from the FileReference object into the File object.
There is no "path" member exposed when debugging the FileReference after opening it

I need to parse and display the value for variable VALUE in xml to the screen but read from the file continuously instead of
once. The XML file is being created dynamically so its getting larger but flash only displays first value for variabel VALUE.

I'm going to implement a file uploading application using flex 3.5 and php. In the flex code I need to read the content of the uploaded file without calling the FileReference.load() method (Since it is a big issue when uploading large files). I checked many online articles and didn't find a way to do this in flex.access the content of this file without using FileReference.load() method?

I am uploading files, jpgs, pngs, gifs, using filereference ... no problems.
my concern is the validity of the files that a user might upload.
for instance, I took a .txt file, changed it's extension to .jpg, and filereference was able to upload it to my server ( furthermore my php script was able to create a copy of it, resize the copy, and save it also ).

I need to parse a large trace file (up to 200-300 MB) in a Flex application. I started using JSON instead of XML hoping to avoid these problems, but it did not help much. When the file is bigger than 50MB, JSON decoder can't handle it (I am using the as3corelib).
Try to split the file: I would really like to avoid this; I don't want to change the current format of the trace files and, in addition, it would be very uncomfortable to handle.Use a database: I was thinking of writing the trace into a SQLite database and then reading from there, but that would force me to modify the program that creates the trace file.

I am developing an application using Adobe AIR.How can we get absolute path of file or "nativePath" of file (as we call it in Flex/AIR) when we use FileReference to browse a file ? I know there are security concerns related to this but is there any hack or is there a direct solution that I am unaware of?

To load 3 files locally into the Flash Player, one might using something like this manage the sequence after the user has chosen the files...
private function uploadList(evt:Event):void{
var arr:Array = fileReferenceList.fileList;
for each(var item:FileReference in arr){
item.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, onFileLoadComplete);
item.load();

I'm trying to perform a file upload using a FileReference from a Flex app running in Firefox 4. However when I attempt to call the upload() method, the Filereference throws an IOError with the following Error #2038: File I/O Error. URL: [URL] If I don't explicitly add a listener for the IOErrorEvent, then I get a Flash player popup stating SecurityError: Error #2000: No active security context.
The request doens't even hit my server (I can verify by placing breakpoints in the Java code and watching the HTTP Requests that go out using HTTPFox), so it seems to me that this is a client side issue (right?). I've done some searching for the problem on google and the suggestions included wrapping the upload() call in a timeout/callLater, and attempting to attach the sessionId to the request (since Firefox creates a new thread for the upload and doesn't attach the proper cookies). Neither of these approaches has worked for me. I don't experience this problem with Internet Explorer, only Firefox.

A friend of mine has a Flash Action script running on a LAMP server that currently reads an xml config file. He's asked me if it's possible to remove the xml file, and replace it somehow with a system (lets call it an 'auto xml generator') that intercepts the request to read that file and generates an output, so it appears to all intents and purposes as if the file still exists and contains the contents that has actually been returned from our auto xml generator'

I am trying to use the load method of FileReference object to load the data and use it to display a thumbnail of the selected image.However, after calling fr.load(), fr.data remains null.I'm using Flex Builder 3.0.2 on Windows 7 with Flex SDK 3.4 and Flash Player 10 Debug. If I evaluate fr.load() in Eclipse's watch variables list, I get an error reading "No such variable: load."

i've got a pic gallery from kirupa which i modified a bit.I've added a download button with filereference. The thing is everthing works when the download button is pressed.But if somebody wants to download a picture and wants to change the name the file isn't recognised because the extension is lost.Flash doesnt read after the dot (example .jpg). If you dont change the name of the file which you save it keeps its extension.
here's my code for the download and the link
Code:
/////////////////////////////////////
// DOWNLOAD CODE
import flash.net.FileReference;[code]....
ive tried to put it like this but it doesnt work
Code:
function downloadPICT(){
fileRef.download(url+download[p]+".jpg");
}
PS download[p] is read from an XML file its the link to the downloadfile, which looks like this
Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" standalone="yes"?>
<images titel="DJ CHUCKIE" omschrijving="HEINEKEN FULL MOON PARTY" datum="VRIJDAG 5 JANUARI">
<pic>[code].......

I'm using Filereference.save() to save a XML file. It's working fine with default filename.But is there a way to force a file extension on the saved file? I'm using "untitled.xml" as the default filename, but if the user changes it to say "myfile", it gets saved as "myfile", rather than "myfile.xml".

We use the FileReference component to upload file in Flex. But if the application is deployed within an environment having NTLM authentication (Windows Integrated Authentication), the upload capability will not work, and each time a message box will be popup asking the user to input credentials.I've queried some resource from internet and it seems this is a bug of FileReference component.

I have a main swf file and config.xml located in the same directory. My .swf file uses config.xml to fetch config variable which it does with success.The problem appears when I put those files into Flex directory. I embed .swf file like this.
<mx:Image id="loading" source="@Embed('/blobs/visualLogo/mySwfFile.swf')"
visible="true" horizontalCenter="0"/>
I also place config.xml into /blobs/visualLogo/
This time I get an error in Flex:
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.

Another Adobe AIR question for you: Can we write files to the file system and leave them as read-only in Adobe AIR? In the future, we would overwrite these files (or delete them and write a new one).
Update: I tried the following approach, but I was still able to open the file, edit, and save to the file system after the process executed.

I'm trying to get two different apps to communicate through a file. I would like app 1 to append some text to a file, and app 2 to notice, and read the new bytes (not the whole file). There is an event, ProgressEvent.PROGRESS, that is supposed to fire when new data is available on a FileStream, but it only fires when I first open the file. Basically, I would like to leave the FileStream open, listening like a socket on the end of that file for changes.

Flash Builder generated AppName-app.xml descriptor for every AIR project. There are a number of settings, values there, including below. Is it possible to read these in your code without explicitly loading this XML at runtime (even this I don't know if it's possible)? Maybe Loader.info or similar?
<!-- The name that is displayed in the AIR application installer.
May have multiple values for each language. See samples or xsd schema file. Optional. -->

i'm trying to perform simple automated test on my Adobe Air Application. I decide to store some test data in external MS Excel file to decrease hardcode quantity. But I discovered, that this is not a trivial task, when you're working with Adobe Air.
Actually, i need to correct initialize an excelApp object, the rest part of logger is already implemented. I tried the following approach, but I can't find a package with ActiveXObject class defined.
excelApp = new ActiveXObject("Excel.Application");

I need to read data from a file after a user has selected a file using a file browser, for a Flex web app (NOT AIR). I know this is possible in Flash 10 using the FileReference class load and data methods. But using Flash 10 is not an option for me. So does anyone know of anyway I can do this in Flash 9?
