Actionscript :: Read File Opened Via FileReference In Flex?

Apr 11, 2012

I have to browse for and open a file in AIR. I can access the file via the File class:

var file:File = File.applicationStorageDirectory.resolvePath("somefile.txt");
var stream:FileStream = new FileStream();
stream.open(file, FileMode.READ);

And I can browse for a file via the FileReference class:

var fileRef:FileReference = new FileReference();
fileRef.browse(allTypes);

But I cannot seem to get the file from the FileReference object into the File object.

There is no "path" member exposed when debugging the FileReference after opening it

Flex :: Flash - Uploading Multiple Files Simultaneously?

I have been working on a flex uploader, where the user can select multiple files.It works fine when the files are uploaded in a queue (one at a time), however as soon as I try to have it upload 2 files at once I run into issues.

It seems that files will often lock up, and either stay at 1% until every other file is uploaded, or just not complete at all. There is never more than one file uploading at a time.Is there some issue with calling .upload on multiple files at once in Flex?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Uploading Local Files Without Requiring User To Select Files?

Feb 3, 2009

My users upload a certain kind of text file that sometimeshas references to images stored locally on their hard drive. I needto check this file either on the server or within a flash app tosee if it has these references and then grab those images in aflash app to upload to my server.So I can use FileReference easily enough to have users uploadlocal images. But FileReference requires users to select their files with a dialog box. I can't have that. Myusers wouldn't know where to look and there are typically way toomany files, sometimes with the same name but in differentdirectories.

I can also just use URLLoader with a local URL, I guess I canprobably just use Loader too? That works great. The problem here isI can't communicate with both the server and the local filesystemin the same flash application due to Flash's security sandboxrestrictions. So I can get out of those security restrictions byplacing or editing a trust file in designated locations on variousOSes. I then need to install this trust file which is more invasiveand confusing to users then I want to be...Java's method of accessing local files from a web applet bysimply signing the applet with a certificate and having a dialogbox popup where the users grants access is ideal. Is there anything

Actionscript 3 :: Flex - Forcing JAWS To Read FLEX Content "on-demand"

Oct 20, 2010

I'm trying to make an existing FLEX application section-508-compliant, by getting it to work smoothly with the JAWS screen reader. It kinda sorta works, but one immediate problem is that when you first go to the login screen, your cursor ends up in the userid field, but JAWS doesn't read anything useful (like the label of the field you're in!) until you hit TAB or something. Is there a way to force it to speak immediately on application startup, without making the user tab/backtab just to hear where they are?

For that matter, as cool as it is that it reads interactive controls as the user tabs around, sometimes you just need to make JAWS say something at a particular point in the logic, which might or might not be associated with a conrol... as if you could write AS code like "jaws.speak('');".

Flex :: Right Method For Modifying Text Content In Component Lifecycle?

Aug 25, 2010

I have custom components which must adjust their text content based on space constraints. For example a component adds labels until there is no space, and then the content of the last label becomes "(x more)"
I do not have access to size of child controls before adding them. When in updateDisplayList, I make changes to the layout of the component, but for labels, lblInstance.text property fires events, which lead to updateDisplayList being called again. I know that updateDisplayList may be called more than once, but if there is a way to modify text without triggering events, that'd be really useful. For example, setActualSize method in UIComponent allows this kind of modification. Anything similar for text controls? Or do you have best practices for laying out and managing text content, in the context of custom Flex components?

If you dont change the name of the file which you save it keeps its extension.

ive tried to put it like this but it doesnt work

Code:

ActionScript 2.0 :: Method For Uploading Many Variable From .txt

Jul 3, 2005

Is there a way to make "1-1=120,10,hello how are you" be loaded from a text file so that i don't have to make something like "T1-1=120&P1-1=10&S1-1=hello how are you".

Is there any code that would allow me to make the first " " a variable then after the "," the next " " a variable so on.

I just cant think of any code that would allow me to do this (i currently have it set up like "T1-1=120&P1-1=10&S1-1=hell how are you", but that really wont work in the long run).

If someone shows me the basics i can probably alter it to work in my engine. So if you can just do the small example and put it into something like var1 var2 and var3.

ActionScript 3.0 :: FileReference Type Method ... Weak

Dec 18, 2009

So there I was, creating a small app that allowed user to upload custom images. Everything went smooth, until......<insert horror music here> So you want to validate that its an image, and not something else. Well you restrict it with the File filter...but there are ways around that. So as a double check, you check the file type after a file is selected. <drum roll>

Awesome, the type method returns null if the image doesnt have the proper headers....what the hell....So most images are compressed for smaller file size, thus the headers are stripped out. So...Type method appears to be useless....There was a simple way around this using the name method..but what the hell...type method is weak!!

ActionScript 3.0 :: Uploading Files To PHP?

Oct 8, 2011

Flash Builder 4.5
SDK 4.5.1

The PHP (the // Test part is to check if a script actually reached the php file):

Code:
<?php
$uploaddir = 'C:/Users/XXX/Desktop/UploadTest/';
$uploadfilename = basename($_FILES['userfile']['name']);
$uploadfile = $uploaddir . $uploadfilename;

[Code]....

When I upload a file to "Up_Test.php" via a regular HTTP form, the image ends up in the destination folder and the test file wasHere.txt is created as well.

When uploading with the AS3 function above, only the wasHere.txt file is created, i. e. the AS3 connected to the PHP script, but it did not send the file.
