I'm trying to read a xml file from client. After search for it. I have got to upload the file to the server with this code.

A friend of mine has a Flash Action script running on a LAMP server that currently reads an xml config file. He's asked me if it's possible to remove the xml file, and replace it somehow with a system (lets call it an 'auto xml generator') that intercepts the request to read that file and generates an output, so it appears to all intents and purposes as if the file still exists and contains the contents that has actually been returned from our auto xml generator'

I think the core of the problem in my actionscriptproject is the following:
1. I need to read, for example, 20 variables from a file, preferable an xml file. This file has 20 lines, and has two fields per line, variable name and content
(being text between " ").
so data.xml would be something like:
variable1, "text for variable1"
variable 2, "this is var2 content"
...
or even:
&variable1=value1&variable2=value2&variable3=value3&variable4=value... and so on to 20.
2. Then, from the 20 read vars, a new array should be "populated" randomly! And at this point, I don't even know how to start doing that.

I try to read a txt file and split the content into variables, I use the following:

the problem is the str get the whole test file, if the text file has multiple line,can I read the file each line by line, such as a function like readLine or something,so the str only get information for each line?
So I stick in this flash drive that me and some coworkers use regularly to transfer files to each other, open up a couple of .fla files and edit some text as neccessary for a project. I save, blah blah blah, get about half way done and hit save.Could not save I:folders]q5.fla.The file may be read-only or already open in another application.Save using a different name, or close the document and try again.Saved, saved, saved, saved, FAIL.What the hell, Flash? Did you forget to lock the document out for your use and something else is nabbing "first open" rights.
Edit:I can narrow down the failure to editing a single movieclip. All of the files I'm editing are based off the same source (they're questions to a quiz, and while not intelligently programmed, its what we have). As soon as I edit the contents of the "B" answer (instance name "choice2" movieclip name boxB) I can no longer save the file with the same name.

What I'm going for is read in a txt line by line as a button is pressed.
I have two variables that I would like to store in a remote data file which can be accessed by my Flash file. It is for a voting system, so the first variable would be a counter that is incremented each time a user votes, and the second would be the total rating. The average rating would then be calculated from these.
How would one store, retrieve, and then update these variables from the data file?
I can create the system within a single Flash file for a single session, but obviously I'd like multiple users opening the file simultaneously to be able to access the data and update it.

I'm using the text effect I found in ActionScript Text Animation , and the script works great.
My question is, is it possible to have line breaks? I tried adding spaces to end a line, but you'd have to wait for the script to read through the added spaces before the next line begins.
I was editing an FLA file which was Read Only due to our versioning system (P4) however, when I did not have a file checked out (therefore was Read Only), I did not get an error when I saved the file (there was even a save progress bar!) - yet when I opened the file again, all the information I had "Saved" was not there. I tested this out on several other non-checked out files (read-only files) and I was still able to hit "save" on all of them - but it did not actually save the file. In none of these instances was I alerted that I was trying to edit a read only file.

View 1 RepliesI have a 3rd party programme which generates the xml file below, and it re-writes the xml file every time a new message is received by that 3rd party programme. What I'm trying to do is find a way to read in the relevant flashvars (if that's the right term) into a flash file (basically I want to read in messages 1 - 6), ignore the rest of the xml, display the messages and then re-load the xml about every 30 seconds (in case it's changed). I guess this is pretty much like a news reader of sorts, but I don't have any control over the structure of the xml file, so if someone could point me in the right sort of direction, then I'm happy to have a go at learning. I did try messing with a basic news reader flash file that I downloaded, but it didn't seem to like the xml - I guess because each message in the xml has its own number?[code]...

I am trying to parse an some xml that is coming from a php file. I used the DOMDocument to write the xml and then echoed it back out. It's perfectly formatted I'm sure. When I load the php file from flash I don't get any errors but it won't trace the xml. I even have the header ("content-type: text/xml"); in the php file. Can flash pick up xml data from a php file assuming everything is done correctly?

So I am starting off writing a class to parse an XML file
In the setup of the FLA, I start off with this:

I get a compile time error telling me that it can't find the class. So I check, and recheck, and the class is there, so I'm baffled.
Then, just for giggles, I try typing:

trace(coms.utils.XMLParser);
right after I import the classes. And for some reason, suddenly, I get no compile time errors, and the document loads, traces out, and the method I call in the class traces out its little "hello" message...
If I comment out that trace, it goes right back to being broken...
So seriously, what gives. Has anyone ever run into anything like this before? I'm running CS4 on an iMac, if that makes a difference.
I am running flash cs5.5 and attempting to use the JSON calls that are in flash player 11. I patched my install so that I could select flash 11 as the target. When I run in a browser, everything is fine. When I publish to a macos projector, the JSON pieces do not work.
Is there any way to make it work?

This works as expected in the browser, however in the projector it never gets beyond the ob=JSON.parse call. I can tell where it gets by uncommenting the amount=xxx lines
I cant tell what it is doing because as far as I know the debugger in cs5.5 is flash 10, so it doesnt work for debugging. I am wondering if whatever it uses to cram into a projector file is running flash player 10 as well?
I need to read a large CSV file (8-15 MB) and generate a LineChart in Flex AIR. Since Chart need data in structurd format like XML. When I read CSV and convert it to XML object 8 MB file size become 24 MB XML object and not able to graph.
Best solution is to read Line by line and read only part of data. How can I acheive this in Flex AIR ? Is it possible to read line by line in Flex.
Otherwise what are the best ways to draw a graph in FLEX using large data.
I have some code that parses an external XML file and reads the HTML inside the CDATA block. But it does not read HTML form elements like <input> or <textbox> is there anyway to do this? Is there anyway to have it parse an MXML file to generate the form on the fly?[code]...

I'm trying to load in a .txt file that I want to parse, line by line with each line being delimited by a comma. View 3 RepliesI need to parse a large trace file (up to 200-300 MB) in a Flex application. I started using JSON instead of XML hoping to avoid these problems, but it did not help much. When the file is bigger than 50MB, JSON decoder can't handle it (I am using the as3corelib).
Try to split the file: I would really like to avoid this; I don't want to change the current format of the trace files and, in addition, it would be very uncomfortable to handle.Use a database: I was thinking of writing the trace into a SQLite database and then reading from there, but that would force me to modify the program that creates the trace file.
