Flash :: Accessing Shared Object Data Without Reloading Swf
Jun 24, 2011
I'm wondering if it's possible to access a shared object's data (once it's been changed) without reloading the swf. Specifically, I have two swfs: one changes the data in the so and lets the second swf "know" via a localconnection. I have a function in the second swf that fires via the local connection.[code]This function looks for the new value however it doesn't show the updated value in my textfield unless I refresh the browser. Thoughts?
I am facing a problem in accessing Local shared object from 2 diff. swfs. Let me explain the scenario clearly.I am developing a radio widget (in maindomain.com for ex)which has a button to open a html page (placed in contentserver.com) as a popup with specific wt and ht. The html page loads the same SWF file of radio widget from "maindomain.com", means whatever changes we do for the SWF in maindomain will be reflected automatically in the popup also.Here where the problem is:
1. Say I am playing radio station "A" in main window and added this station to favourite list (which is done by storing in Share object). So when i open the popup its reflect there.
2. Now when i change radio station "A" to "B" in the popup and added "B" to favourites and closed the popup.
3. When I refresh the main window, I can get both "A" and "B" in fav, as expected.
4. But if without refreshing in main window when I changed to some new station "C" and then open the popup, it has got only radio station "A" in the fav list.
I am pretty sure this is because of Sharedobject.flush(). The thing I am wondering is, why the station "B" which is also pushed to sharedobject when added to favourite is getting deleted when I flush() the SO.?I googled many forums but not satisfied solution for this. Even I tried to get the Sharedobject.getLocal("SO","/") every time before using data in it. but no use.Is it a Flash limitation accessing LSO from diff SWF?
I'm using Flash and AS3 to write an app for iOS and for Android and I'm saving XML-data using shared objects. Now it struck me that when I supply an update to the app store and the user updates the app, will the shared objects remain intact or will they be replaced? I'd very much like them to remain as they were.
I'm creating a small app to run from CD-Rom/local installation that will use multiple shared objects for data storage. To ensure proper saving without surprising the user with a permissions dialog unexpectedly, I'd like to request unlimited data storage on first time app launch - Joey Lott shows how to do this in the Actionscript Cookbook... request=mySO.flush(1024 * 500);
My question is,Can I perform this permissions request with the user a single time with a generic app SO in global fashion, so that the permissions would be set for any SOs created during the use of the product (all written to same SO directory),or do I have to request permissions for each and every SO created? Since the latter would be unacceptable from a UE standpoint, that means stuffing all app data into a single SO which doesn't seem so great from a data config perspective...
I'm using a loader for people to use to upload their own images for a background, and I want it to remember the image the next time they come to the page, so is there any way to save the loader data in a shared object? I haven't tried just using something like
I have a client that is running a 64 bit system. On my 32 bit system my Shared Object writes the data without a problem but theres hangs when the call is made to write the data. Any ideas how to go about solving this problem? I would think it would not matter if the system is 32 or 64.
I have 2 swf that will be loaded on a website. One suppose to generate a bytearray and being passed over to another swf.
The problem is that when I save the bytearray to a SharedObject in user's local file, the second swf doesn't get the updated variable value from the first swf.
I've set the second swf to retrieve the value every one second and it don't get updated until I reload the page.
I flushed and close the connection to make sure the data is saved on the local path and that is not helping as well.
I also considered using LocalConnection as well but there is a bug in flash player for mac that stopping it to work between swfs on mac. Left me no choice but to use SharedObject for my project.
I am new to ActionScript. I am designing a calendar with schedule just like outlook calendar. I have 30 or 31 small text boxes for each month. I would like to save data in the text boxes so that data remains in that even when the file is closed. I used the following code and it works fine.
[Code]....
My question is, I have totally more than 360 text boxes for 12 months. How can I save all data using shared object? I tried loop, Array and function with the above code. But it did not work. You can also tell me if there is any other way to save data using PHP MySQL or ASP? If so how to do that?
I'm trying to loop through each of the arrays stored in a Shared Object and place the individual array items inside rows of textfields. This isn't quite working - it fills all the text fields with the last data array only:
Code: var elemSharedObject:SharedObject = SharedObject.getLocal("elementChoices", "/"); //Load data into fields for (var prop in elemSharedObject.data) {
[Code]....
I need a way to increment "elemSharedObject.data[prop]" after it's filled each successive row of textfields.
I would like to get the content of a shared object (flash cookie) generated by a player, or more precisely by quizzes generated by Articulate Quizmaker.I know where is generated that cookie, I just would like to get the content of a variable inside. But impossible to access it :sI tryed :
var user_so:SharedObject = SharedObject.getLocal("nameOfTheCookie"); if(! user_so.flush()) // sends a boolean, true if the cookie exists {
I have a Flash Form that is fairly long (about 8 short pages), so I have set the form up so that it can be reviewed when the filler-outer is done and they are ready to submit it. I'm using a Shared Object to store the information they enter so they won't lose their information if they hit refresh or need to come back later.
If they go back to the page with comboboxes on it, the comboboxes have reset to the default. The answer and data in the SO haven't changed, but it looks like it to the consumer/viewer.
So, I'd like for the boxes to display the choice they picked when they were on that page. I need use the value from the database to show the particular value in the ComboBox whenever the user returns to that page.
I have have a problem loading and accessing data from a value object in my new project.. I load an xml file via a service, which contains title and locations of asset files, I need to be able to access the location of an asset file by specifying the title and retrieiving it from a value object.. I'm using the Robotlegs framework, here's an example of the xml:-
Can I use Flash Shared Object to pass information between two different SWF files on two different pages within the same website?I know it can if the SWF files are the same. But what if they are different Flash object with different SWF files?
I can load the xml in the first time just fine but when i try to reload the xml to get the new data it comes up undefined. What do I need to do? Do i need to clear the xml object and then reload the data? Am i reloading it wrong? I call the code again using this function and the data comes up undefined
I have a gane that uses shared object and keeps note of highscores and users names. So - if that is possible then I can set up teaching courses on standalone pcs can't I? ie: Databses I have in access can go in XML and the recording of position in course and results of tests can also be recorded using Shared object.Is that a good way of going about things OR should the whole thing go over to AIR and its sqlite system?
I have an XML image that I loaded into a sprite and then the sprite into an array, I'm trying to now retrieve the [object Loader] that is in the original array, and display it. however, I keep getting a blank space instead.
I have a Flash.exe projector that stores data in a Shared Object. Anything works fine if I launch it from my desktop. The Flash.exe will be recorded and used from a CD-rom. Will the path of the Shared Object change? Say, will it try to record itself on the cd?!
I am trying to access a flash shared object using sharedObject.getLocal("sharedObjectName"); But, it always creates a new object and doesn't locate the existing object, then I searched the location where it saves the object and I got this location from the internet c:/Documents and Settings/username/Application Data/Macromedia/Flash Player/#SharedObjects But, I could not get this directory in my windows XP. access my shared object which is residing in my flash media serverapplication folder..
At the moment I'm developing something in which I need to have a server of some sort store and send Shared Objects. When I was looking into it the API said that you would use something like a flash media server. Well the student price for that is about 1300$ so I can't do that. Is there a way for me to create a server in actionscript using socket connections (or something). To send and receive shared objects? I haven't started on this yet I'm just looking ahead into what I'm going to need.
I have a working shared object. The visitor types a password into an input text field and hits go. The next time they go to the log-in it pulls the shared object out and prepopulates the input text field. How can I add a "checkbox" (Remember Me) option to the process. I'd like the visitor to have the option of whether or not they want to be remembered.
My current code looks like this: On frame 1 Actions Keyfame: pw_babytalk = SharedObject.getLocal('babytalk'); if (pw_babytalk.data.pword != undefined) { password_txt.text = pw_babytalk.data.pword; } stop();
I am looking for a way to edit .sol-files (LSO/Local Shared Object). I have tried searching quite a bit, but I have not been able to find any program that can edit AS3-files properly. Is there a solution for me out there?
In one of the classes in my Flex application I have a dictionary, which is periodically updated from other parts of the application. It contains some sort of user preferences and I want to keep it in sync with a local shared object - the dictionary needs to be read during the class initialization and saved to the local storage when an element is changed, added or deleted.
The "Dictionary" object inherits only "Object" and does not have a change event - like the "collectionChange" in ArrayCollection. So I can't sync the dictionary just by listening for an event and manipulating the shared object in the event handler. The other possible solution would be to make the dictionary private and manipulate it using special methods in my class. Something like:
public function setValue(key:String, value:String):void public function getValue(key:String):String public function delValue(key:String):void
But using bindings will become a real nightmare and I will have to make changes in many other parts of the application.
My problem is that i have a flash movie with has a link to another flash movie. I want both of them to read from the same shared object. I know it violates the funda of shared objects. Is there some way of doin this.Both these movies run from a Tomcat Web server within the same domain.
Is it possible to access the same shared object from different flash movies. I am trying this, and I put the exact same code to access the shared object in the first frame of both movies, but when I update the SO in one of the movies, the other one does not reflect the change. Both movies are in the same folder. Any ideas?
Since it is called a "shared object, I would think that more than one movie could access it, but what do I know. I don't know if it matters, but here is the code:
