ActionScript 3.0 :: Read The RSS Feed From A Website And Display The Texts Extracted For That RSS With Animation?
Oct 18, 2010I want to read the RSS feed from a website and display the texts extracted for that RSS with animation.

View 4 RepliesI would like to create a small Adobe Air application which would extract XML data from my site and display it in my Adobe air application.I have the xml part setup, when i run the xml file, it displays the results in the browser. Now what i need is to display the same results in my adobe air application.For e.g. I have a simple form
<form name="review" action="admin_xml.php" method="post">
<textarea name="xml" cols="40" rows="10"></textarea>
<input class="submit" type="submit" value="Submit Request">[code]............
When i submit the form, i get all the order id's from 2009-01-01 till date and it get displayed in the browser.Is there a way to run that HTML form in an adobe air application such that I enter the XML element values it should go through the admin_xml.php file and get the results.I dont want to enter the XML Skeleton again and again. I only want to able to enter the values for those elements.
I have a flash that reads all it's content from an XML file, alot of dynamic texts, it's in AS2 and it uses Dynamic text variables to assign the text from XML to the dynamic text.
Now I'm migrating it to AS3, I can't use Dynamic text variables any more, I know I can assign it manually one by one, but I have more than 200 movies to migrate, and it would take a lot of time to do it.I thought of one solution: If I can read all the dynamic texts in the whole movie at once, I can build a nice loop to read them one by one and assign the text from XML to it's respective texts.
I'm trying to read a rss feed for a Flash application. It works perfect locally but I get that security error live o
n the web. I cannot obviously install a crossdomain file on this server because it's not mine.
i am creating a MP3 PLayer that will read data from a rss feed has the title of the mp3, the artist, the filename etc. I was wondering how to get the url form this tag in xml

Can you load an RSS Feed onto a web site with only Flash AS3 or do you need something else like flex?
View 1 RepliesI'm creating website which needs video stream from surveillance camera implemented. Camera is GeoVision GV-FD120D 1.3Mpix LowLux IR 2.7-9mm and it is linked to server which I have full access to (I dont have direct access to camera)
I was playing around with settings on this cam and I managed to turn on RTSP protocol access for this camera. Then I used VLC (on server) to open network stream with address: [URL]Works!
Ideally I would like to show the video in player like jwplayer , however it does not support RTSP protocol, but RTMP instead.
So I guess I would need some kind of software on this server to:
1) transcode the video stream from RTSP -> RTMP
2) stream it out from server so I can connect to it with jwplayer later
I heard of Wowza media server but the budget is pretty tight for this project so would rather use free solution here.
I have installed flash media server, flash cs5, media live encoder to be able to view my webcam feed via my website. Now in addition to these, i started streaming to localhost, and installed a dns updater which updates a name server according to my current ip. Then i wrote this dns address in the feed's source from flash 5 as rtmp://thednsname.somedns.net/live/livestream
so far so good, i also forwarded the ports 1935 incoming and outgoing from modem to my computer as well (because 1935 is said to be the default port number for media server). firewall -> closed (just in case); and my internet provider doesn't block ports...started the media server (with admin privilage in 7), started the live encoder, connect to localhost, start live feed.
NetStream.Play.StreamNotFound : Adobe Flash tried to play a live or recorded stream that does not exist. Source can't be found.
i'm trying to use actionscript to display an RSS feed on the stage. the code i am using is:
[Code]....
I did post this in the AS 2.0 forum, as that's my preferred way of working, but am willing to give 3.0 a go if it's not too difficult.
I have this XML that I need to read into flash.
I want to display one of the temperatures in the xml.
For instance, say I want to display the temperature for 'Sydney'.[code]...
I would like to display an RSS Feed headline in my flash site. There doesn't need to be any body text, but it has to display the headline quite quickly for a rollover.
View 1 RepliesI've been building an XML feed reader, here's the code I'm using:
var myXML:XML;var myLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
myLoader.load(new [code]....
It works fine and loads the XML inside the flash authoring environment (ie when i preview with crtl+enter), or when I make an executable projector, but when I try to run the SWF by double-clicking, or when the SWF is on the webserver, the text box doesn't display the data...
Can RSS Feeds be inserted into Flash?
I would like to create an animation whose sole purpose is to scroll a feed (like CNN), and that would change the source feed every 10 minutes.
I'm trying to write some apps that will include some image processing for facial, object recognition. There's a ton of stuff out there (mostly from 2009) that doesn't work very well and I want to give it a try.
Anyway, I have the webcam feeding a video object I've addChild()ed to the stage and that works aces. I want to make a copy of that video stream and plop it on the stage right next to it. This works, but the framerate suffers:
Code:
public function update(event):void
{
//onEnterFrame
var bmp:BitmapData = new BitmapData(_video.width/5,_video.height/5);
[Code]....
So this puts a pixelated version of the webcam feed right next to it just like I wanted, but it seems to lug down the processor. Logic would tell me that I'm piling on infinate amounts of "goat" to my movieClip (mc). I try to dispose() the bmp, but then it stops working.
I have an AS3 file that pulls an XML feed from a site. All the file does is display a number in a dynamic text box. On my desktop it works fine the feed is parsed in the output window and in the dynamic text box, joy! I upload the file to the CMS we are using and, no joy all I get is 'Loading' in the window. I get Loading because I input that in the tf so it wouldn't be blank.
So the question is, is there a fundamental flaw in my code or is it more likely to be the CMS? Im hoping it is the code, otherwise it is back to the drawing board.

I'm using the jQuery oembed plugin to display videos from a Vimeo feed. The only problem is they display over the top of my navigation menu. I have tried setting the z-index of the menu but this makes no difference. A common suggestion seems to be to set the wmode parameter to transparent or opaque. However, passing this as a parameter to the oembed function makes no difference.
View 3 Replieswhat I want to do is from my application, login to a website and retrieve information from my login and populate the relative fields on my screen, be able to make a change on my app screen then upload the changes to the website. To be able to make changes from an app would be a great help and save a lot of time rather than constantly logging into the website through a browser.
I've searched a lot on google regarding logging into websites but haven't had much luck in finding something I can use. It seems like a simple idea but it's obviously not something people use often.
Before converting Flash into iPhone app, I still need to understand some questions.
1) Is the converted app able to read XML code from the website like RSS or custom script?
2) 3rd party API are not allowed to be download but assets like Images, sounds or reading data from MySQL db is allow?
3) Anyone port from Flex 4 yet?
This is my first time posting and naturally Im here for a little help. A past employee took my companies Flash files for a scrolling ad. The company wants the colors changed and I will admit Im a slight newbie.
I was able to extract the SWF to a flash project folder with trillix. However I can not find this command line(see link)
[URL]
In the flash file. Now I will admit Im new to flash, but I have dug everywhere I can think of in the project folder for that command line.
As you can see from the screen shot, its in frame0 on Sprit12. Ive looked in the properties of layer 1, in the properties of sprite12, and looked in the frame. Where would this be?
I want creating an interactive cd rom using xls file, is it possible to read data on an swf animation from an excel file?
View 5 RepliesI'm wiriting some code to read certain properties of a keyframed movieclip animation. The idea is that an animater will create an animation, the code will record the animation as it plays, then the numberd that have been saved can be used later. x, y, rotation, xScale and yScale all did swimmingly well. skewX and skewY come out as undefined, on every frame. They're both used in the movie (typically around 4 - 8 degrees). They're never the same as each other.
View 1 RepliesI am trying just to get this simple analogy working where a user just enters the answer to "8+6" and if it isnt "14" then the dynamic text should display "Incorrect" or otherwise "Correct" but it just doesnt want to work!! Spent the whole day yesterday trying to get it to work!!
I would like to attach the file but its saying that its too big..
I did everything that said on the internet, like naming variables and just assigning variables but it wont recognise the variable!
I have a table (session) in a database which has almost 72,000 rows. I extract those rows with the help php+mysql but when the result is returned to the HTTPService, i need to wait for some 32 seconds before the all the rows start appearing in the DataGrid at once.
Question Is there any way by which DataGrid may start displaying data one by one while the application may extract next rows in parallel. Or that the DataGrid may show data in chunks of hundreds. Like when application starts, it may show first 400 enteries in DataGrid, then the next 400 hundred are extracted until all the 72,000 rows are extracted? Or can i involve threading such that one thread may be responsible for displaying data in datagrid while the other, executing in parallel may be responsible for extracting next data from database?
[Code]....
This method reads a file from server and then display its content. The file which is getting read is a log file which gets updated at regular interval. The issue is once some content read by AS then it is not getting updated that means after every execution of the function content of src variable below remains same even thou the source file is updated.

I'm using Flash MX, AS 2, Projector 6, working on a PC. I saved two versions of my project -- one .exe for Windows and one .hqx for Mac. The .exe works fine when burned onto a CD. When opening the .hqx from a CD on a Mac, I got a message that the file is on a locked volume. I discovered that the reason for this is that an .hqx is essentially a zipped file which has to be extracted, and when a file is extracted, the unzipped files are written onto the same location as the original. When the original files are on a CD, Stuffit (Mac's zip extractor program) can't write onto that location. [So if anyone at Adobe looks at these forum posts, let me say that I think its absolutely ridiculous that the Mac version of Flash's projector files have to be extracted in order to be viewed!]
To get around this problem, I saved the .hqx on my PC, put it on a portable hard drive and brought it over to a Mac (because Stuffit for PC converts it into an .exe for PC), and unzipped it. When I'd test it on the portable hard drive or on a USB drive, the extracted file would work. When I'd bring it back over to the PC and burn a CD with both versions on it, and then test that CD on the Mac, it wouldn't work.
I'm working on a virtual piano keyboard that processes imported mp3 sound samples. I've come to a solution with this question, but as I run this test code below, the sound loops its last data chunk of each sound source forever, and obviously, I want it to stop at the end of the extracted sound data. The same happens with any extracted sample data, I don't even have to mix it. I added a dynamically drawn graphic waveform so you can visually check what happens. This is my first time using the ByteArray class, so I don't know how to solve this issue.

when the flash file reads text from a xml file, the font display is unclear. when the text is embedded in the flash, it appears clearly
problem in detail -
i am unable to resolve this problem despite my best efforts. see '~about.fla'. it has been decompiled from a swf file as the original source code was not available (can this be causing the problem?). the xml folder resides in the same folder as '~about.fla'. it contains 'about.xml'. you can download these files at [URL]
i discovered a problem - if you view 'about.swf' - when you click on 'history' link, you can see that the text is distorted. this text is read from the xml file. but is you click on the 'key people' link, you can see that the text appears perfectly. this text is embedded in the flash itself.
i have given the screenshots 'text is unclear.jpg' and 'text is clear.jpg' to further explain my query.
I am trying to read a XML file and display its content in a simple list component or at the console. The problem is that the event listener is triggered in an infinite loop.
The code:
var myXML:XML;
var myLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
myLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, processXML);
[Code].....
I am wrtiting a code which later on will read from XML and display text with links. Below is my code.
[Code]....
my problem is with the mouse events. When I test the movie, only the last link change on mouseover and on mouseout event, not every movieclip.
