I am trying to read a XML file and display its content in a simple list component or at the console. The problem is that the event listener is triggered in an infinite loop.

This method reads a file from server and then display its content. The file which is getting read is a log file which gets updated at regular interval. The issue is once some content read by AS then it is not getting updated that means after every execution of the function content of src variable below remains same even thou the source file is updated.

The above file is saved as Greeter.as in say folder C: est I then create a Fla file named test_display.fla (saved in C: est) and its contents are: import Greeter;var tt:Greeter = new Greeter(); Now the Output window shows hi due to the trace statement but the addChild method should show World in the Flash movie but it does not. The only way to get Hello World to the Flash Movie is to change the test_display.fla to:
import Greeter;var tt:Greeter = new Greeter(); addChild(tt);
In other words I have to use the addChild method twice ( once in Greeter.as and once in test_display.fla ) to get Hello World to display in the Flash movie. Does anyone know why this is so?

I have a combobox and list component on the stage. The combobox has 3 selections. How do I get it so that each selection triggers the specific xml file to load into the list component? I can't get them to communicate to each other.

View 1 RepliesI've created a component which is basically a meter (extends skinnable container). The skin to the component contains two rectangles (background and the actual meter). This component receives an arraycollection with the following fields value, max and min(the arraycollection I am passing is Bindable). When I initialize and pass the data to be used to draw It works great (keep in mind - only works the first time). I've created a button that changes the data array and shows the current meter value. Apparently the meter's value is changing everytime I modify the ArrayCollection I've set to be used for rendering.(dont want to say "dataProvider" because it is not a Flex dataprovider, just a variable )... here is the code...

I have an arrayCollection of objects that extend Sprite, and have bitmaps within them. I want to display these in a list (or some other component that would allow a user to scroll through them, and see their associated data.)
When I do: myList.dataProvider = myArrayCollection
the list just shows a bunch of lines of [Object, Item] instead of the visual sprites.

I am reading the XML correctly but I am having an issue creating the timer to pause the for loop for 8 seconds between slide.
I am writing a class in AS 3.0 to read in a xml file to create content for a quiz. Once I instantiate the xml obj and pass in a string that determines the xml name in the constructor for the xml class I read in the xml and populate some arrays. Evidently in AS 3.0 you have listeners for reading in xml, which is the problem I am having. Once the object is instantiated I try to call on a method called getArray, but the XML hasnt finished being read in and I get a compile error. I realized that if I do addChild, I can't really see the dynamically added component, since flex did not reserve space for my List to display. So I do parentDocument.addChild, and then it appears no problem. My question is since it's being added in the parentDocument, so it is suppose to be a component belong to parentDocument, so is that component still be able to call this handleMouseDown? From my experience, it's still able to, but which doesn't make sense to me. Can someone explain a little about why it can still work, or any better approach other than parentDocument.addChild
I am creating some application in flex and one of my purposes is to read content of file and display it in flex. There is huge problem, when I have file written in polish (which contains some special characters) because amfphp transfers this contents few seconds, which is to long (reading and sending content of file without any polish character if fast).My php code reads any files fast, so problem is on amfphp side. Is there any solution or I have to go with HTTPService and load contents of file directly from flex?

I want to create a simple high score list of 10 high scores of a game. From reading the forums I seem to get the idea that flash cannot create a simple text file. I don't have php or asp but do have cgi capability. Does anyone know where I can find a simple cgi-script that will allow me to write the text the cgi receives to a simple text file: game.sco I want to be able to write a single long string to it so that I create a string of values and can load it back in using flash loadvariables. I can create the string in flash... but how do I write it to a text file using a cgi script? the text file would include this string...I already know how to read it and split it to parse it into arrays:

View 2 Replieshow to populate a list box component located within a seperate mc in my swf with an array... the array comes from a response from a webservice call. I am not currently on the computer with my source code available so lets just use the following....

He's asked me if it's possible to remove the xml file, and replace it somehow with a system (lets call it an 'auto xml generator') that intercepts the request to read that file and generates an output, so it appears to all intents and purposes as if the file still exists and contains the contents that has actually been returned from our auto xml generator'
