Once I instantiate the xml obj and pass in a string that determines the xml name in the constructor for the xml class I read in the xml and populate some arrays. Evidently in AS 3.0 you have listeners for reading in xml, which is the problem I am having. Once the object is instantiated I try to call on a method called getArray, but the XML hasnt finished being read in and I get a compile error. Nov 19, 2009I am creating some application in flex and one of my purposes is to read content of file and display it in flex. There is huge problem, when I have file written in polish (which contains some special characters) because amfphp transfers this contents few seconds, which is to long (reading and sending content of file without any polish character if fast).My php code reads any files fast, so problem is on amfphp side. Is there any solution or I have to go with HTTPService and load contents of file directly from flex?

Feb 28, 2012I have a main swf file and config.xml located in the same directory. My .swf file uses config.xml to fetch config variable which it does with success.The problem appears when I put those files into Flex directory. I embed .swf file like this.

May 16, 2005I turn to you for help, dear sweet Kirupa Forumites. First, let me explain the problem: I have a flash file reading an external text file for the content. Everything works perfectly for nearly everyone - you click a menu button, and the content text comes up fine. However, a couple of people have found that the text shows up as "undefined". I have checked the player versions of the people where it doesn't work, and it is the same as for those where it does work, so that ain't the problem.
I don't understand why it works perfectly for nearly everyone, but a small number of people have this "undefined" text problem. It seems to be a problem with loading the external text file, but I don't know why. I have a main flash movie, and load the text in the first frame, using the following:

I then have a couple of dynamic text boxes in the main movie - one called ErrorText (for displaying an error message to the user) and one called ContentText (for displaying the content). I use an external menu swf which jumps to a specific frame in the main movie, depending on which button is clicked. Actionscript on the main movie frame for the first button does the following, with the other frames similarly configured:
ContentText.htmlText = my_content.content1;
stop();
My external text file is properly configured (content1=blah blah&content2=other blah blah) etc.
Does anyone have any advice on how I can solve this particular weird problem??

Nov 25, 2009So lets say I created a simple game with all of the parameters are stored in variables. At any time of the game the user can press save, and these variables will be sent to .csv file using PHP. Each time the user presses save, it will add a new line in the file. This I know how to do.
Here is what I don't know how to do. How would I make it so that when the game is started, I wanted it to load the last line of variables from the .csv file into the game? So basically the last save needs to be loaded when the game is started.

Mar 30, 2011Is there a AS function or another way a SWF file could read its own filename? The reason for that I have a FLASH chess game which can store the position of the pieces in a sharedObject. The name of the sharedObject file as well its path has to be hard-coded. If I need to have several chess-games played at a time on the same computer, to store each game position I need to compile a separate SWF with a different sharedObject filename hard-coded. A user will fill more independent if he could just save a copy of the same SWF under a different name. But in this case how shall I make each copy of the SWF use its own sharedObject?
