Flash :: Collection Of Preinstalled Graphics?

Nov 2, 2006

While doing a tutoral it wants me to go to the library and select a pre-installed graphic.When I go to Window and open the Library it is empty. And under Window/Common Library's to submenu has three choices, Buttons, Classes, and Learning Interactions. Does Flash have a gallery of sample graphics and animations installed in Flash Professional 8? If so how do you open it?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Making The Simple Player Using The Player Component Preinstalled In Flash?

Jun 3, 2010

I am trying to make the SIMPLEST POSSIBLE MP# player using the player component preinstalled in flash.It is very simple, the code is as follows:

Code:
on (release) {
player.contentPath ="Song.mp3"
player.play()
}
("player" is the mp3 component)

This works if I want a single track to be selected and played.Now, I need it to AUTOMATICALLY LOAD THE NEXT TRACK, which I will input in the code.I am thinking something like this:

Code:
player.onSoundComplete = function() {
player.contentPath ="Song.mp3"
player.play()
};

But this is not working.

PS: I know an XML file would be the best here, but I don't want to use it. I just want to enter the next track's code inside the swf.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Attach Graphics Instead Of MC Cause A Graphics File Size Is Relatively Small Than That Of A Graphic?

I was wondering about MC and hey can help to lag a game out. I set up an advanced class system so i don't have to use MC to simulate walls, all i use isthe x,y,width and height. Well anyway since i don't need MC anymore I was wondering if there is a way to attach Graphics instead of MC cause a Graphics file size is relatively small than that of a graphic, I think. If anyone could tell me thats true and show me a way to attach graphics that would be nice. I haven't tried it yet but maybe if I exported the graphic from the library imihgt be able to call its name, but it doesn't have an instance name so im stuck.

Actionscript 3 :: Reordering An Array Collection Based On Another Array Collection Hierarchy?

Sep 16, 2011

I have an array, crewPositionsAC that contains a list of position abreviatations - EP, PR, DR, WR, and so on. These positions are read in through an XML file each time my flex application loads. Also being populated from an XML is a project. Within a project, there are positions (a student assigned to a type of position listed within crewPositionsAC). These positions are not necessarily in the correct hierarchy order dictated by crewPositionsAC. I have all the positions within an ArrayCollection (positionsAC) with the following structure:

positionsAC (arrayCollection)
[0] = Array
[0] = startOffset
[1] = numDays

[code].....

Then, the user can click a button to add another position. When the "Add Crew Member" button is pressed, the user is presented with a list of possible positions to add. Currently, I simply add another array to positionsAC. This results in the recently added crew member to placed on the bottom of the list. I need to take positionsAC and reorder it based on it's [2] item (role) based on the hierarchy defined in the crewPositionsAC. crewPositionsAC has the following structure:

crewPositionsAC:
[0] = EP
[1] = PR
[2] = DR
[3] = WR

* continue until all possible position types are listed

Flex :: Force Garbage Collection Of Of Others Flash App?

Jul 11, 2011

Yesterday when playing a game (Balloons Tower Defense 3) I noticed that the game started to slow down over time and then randomly speed up very quickly. Looking at the memory usage dropping each time I assumed it was the GC running.

As a legitimate question, is there anyway to force Flash to GC from, say, Firefox? Perhaps there's an addon or a command you can run that will do this? I know that you can do System.gc() but this game isn't mine so I can't modify the source with a "Click here to GC" button.

Flash :: Generate A Collection Of Badges With Random Numbers?

Jan 25, 2010

So I a few badges (MovieClips)!

The main idea is to generate a collection of badges with random numbers associated to them.

This is what I did up to now:

I created two different MovieClip badges, and exported them for ActionScript as Badge and BadgeHover

Within the BadgeHover the label has been transformed into a class with instance name "score".

How do I access this label and change the displayed score?

Do I need to remove and add a new label every time?

What is the best way to add "hover effects"?

What I have is kind of inefficient, I am destroying and recreating the BadgeHover whenever the mouse hovers the Badge class.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash Garbage Collection For MP3 Loading Library?

Jul 8, 2011

I am creating an CS5 flash application that is based largely on a library for loading MP3 files located on a user's computer using file references.

The issue I am having is that each time a new song is loaded, most of the memory is garbage collected but a small amount remains. In most cases this would be fairly unimportant, but the purpose of the application involves the user selecting a large number of mp3 files.

I am a bit new to AS3 and OOP, but I have come to the conclusion that the memory leak is within the library classes. I have tested the library using the smallest amount of my own code I could, and the problem remains. I did make minor changes to one of the library files, but as far as I can tell it is not the cause.Here is a link to the library, the actual download link is the "MP3FileReferenceLoaderLib.zip" link part way down the page:[URL] Here is the code I have for the main .as file:

Code:
package {
import flash.display.Sprite;
import flash.events.Event;
import flash.events.MouseEvent;
import flash.net.FileFilter;

AS3 :: Flash - Garbage Collection And Multi-level Sprites With Listeners?

Mar 25, 2011

I if create a sprite, and that sprite contains numerous child sprites (which themselves also contain child sprites), do I need to worry about garbage-collecting everything, or just the parent sprite? What if the child or grandchild sprites have listeners attached?

For example, let's say I have a class (a subclass of a Sprite) that creates a screen in an application.That screen contains numerous Sprites for all of the UI affordances on the screen (e.g., buttons, drop-down menus, textfields, etc.) Many of those sprites have event listeners on them.So, in my application, I have this:

var myscreen:MyScreenClass = new MyScreenClass();
this.addChild(myscreen);

Later, when the user is done with that screen, I remove it:

this.removeChild(myscreen);
myscreen = null;

Is that all I need to do? Or, do I need to go recursively through myscreen, removing all it's child Sprites and Event Listeners?In other words, if you GC a parent, are all it's children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, etc. also GC'ed?(For what it's worth, I'm using weak-references in my event listeners...)

Flex :: Use Flash.sampler.getSamples To Test Garbage Collection?

Aug 10, 2011

I'm trying to unit test memory management. So far I have a semi-workable solution using flash.sampler.getSamples to get the difference between the number of NewObjectSamples and DeleteObjectSamples which have the same id value.

The test looks something like this:

startSampling();
new Foo();
new Foo();

[Code].....

Since there are no references to Foo I'm assuming that all instances are being garbage collected, and my code is simply wrong due to my lack of understanding how sampling works. I am trying this instead of using weakly keyed dictionary because it seems it should be less of a hack, but now I'm starting to wonder if it's worth the trouble.

Actionscript 3 :: How Does Flash Handle Garbage Collection When It Comes To Adding Movieclips Directly To Another

Jan 19, 2010

Just curious, If i nest a movieclip inside of another movieclip, and the nested movieclip is attached to a custom class. And that custom class has a Event.ENTER_FRAME listener. when I destroy the container movieclip, will flash get rid of the event listeners inside of nested movieclip's custom class ?

May seem like a silly question but flash has a tendency of not killing listeners along with the movieclip itself once it is removed from the stage(this is if your apply the movieclip via addChild). and its a hastle when things get too complex. My solution was to create a single loop for all my objects. Now ive come to a point where I am probably going to have to nest some movieclips inside of another so the position of the nested movieclip stays relative. the parent movieclip will be rotating and scaling so I rather nest it. But I got to know how flash handles moveiclips that are nested into a parent movieclip and has enter frame listeners.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Divinding Vector Graphics Into Vector Graphics

Jul 28, 2009

I have a large vector drawing (imagine 5000x5000) that i want to break up into separate pieces. I know that I can convert this vector drawing into a bitmap and then use the copyPixels method to create many separate bitmaps of the different regions of the original vector drawing, but is there any way to subdivide it into movieclips that just contain vector graphics instead of a bitmap?The reason im dividing a big chunk of vector graphics into smaller pieces is for performance reasons, so flash would only render a small part of this big chunk at a time (only certain regions/voxels/subdivisions are rendered at a time). But bitmaps apparently take up a lot of memory and the system im using would take much less memory if these subdivisions could be preserved in their original vector graphics form.

I imagine I could use masks somehow to achieve this effect (for each subdivision, duplicate the huge image and mask only the region that the subdivision represents), but I dont know the performance costs of masking or if this will create other problems.So is there anyway to split up a movieclip of vector graphics into smaller movieclips of vector graphics the same way copyPixels can with bitmaps?
