Am working on a flash component that is supposed to display some dynamic text which might include HTML formatting. This text is displayed in a label component (AS3), and i would want it to render correctly, like create a line break when <br> is inserted, but it doesn't!
So am wondering what the supported HTML tags in the label component, and in general all other flash components?
I am looking for a very basic html editor (similar to the one being used in this forum to make entries - only more basic)...which ONLY uses html tags supported by the AS2 textfield....
View 1 RepliesI'd like to remove the font tags from the htmlText string produced by a TextField leaving the surrounding nodes and any bold etc tags within intact.
Example partial output of htmlText:

My plan was to avoid trying anything with regex and create an XML object.
However if I create a new XML object containing a root node and then attempt to appendChild the htmlText string so that I have a valid XML object to manipulate I run into a problem with html entities, see example below:

A friend is building a blog, with entries placed in a database, pulled out with php, and then passed to flash. It all goes well except for one thing...problems with html. She's using a tutorial from webmonkey and here's all the actionscript, as it originally was created:

the result: everything loaded in the .swf except the title of her entry over the entry itself. There is a bold html tag around that part, she removed it and voila! The title appeared. But now there's another html tag that starts off a line of code, and it's failing. Click on the entries, and nothing loads except the - between the date and title. Here is that section of code:

She found that by hardcoding a variable defined by the loadArc function, which is pulled in as arcNum, the whole thing works...but of course, can only pull in one entry with the one id number she coded.She also has removed the <u> tags, but the <a href must obviously remain to make her entries clickable.why having html at the front of this statement in the for loop is causing the entire line to fail, and no variable to pass? It's an interesting stumper. To see this in action, here is the page: http:[url].... In that directory you can also find the .fla file and the php results from the database. Tester.html is her second flash movie, also in that directory and completely barebones, and she received the exact same results.

It seems htmlText is rearranging the html tags. Even though the output is the same, I need the original html back since I am making a text editor and the AFTER htmlText is messing up my tag calculations.
I'm importing text in from an xml file and i'm using htmlText to try to keep some styling with tags. I have both the regular and bold face font embedded, and the bolding works fine. The problem is that it ads spaces around the words in bold like a paragraph indent and then makes a line-break after them. What's going on, is there a way to fix?

If I pull the text in from a txt file it will work fine, but taking it out of an xml file causing funky formatting.
I have a textfield created with AS3 as thus: (theDesc is a parameter passed through a function) [code]the problem is the textField is displaying every character. <p><strong> etc.Is there any extra encoding need done on my end?

View 6 RepliesI'm working on a textField overflow system for a project at the moment.I cant find a way to return a textField's htmlText complete with the original html tags.The system is used for splitting up a textField above a particular height into two textFields so the side of each other. The system works perfectly with unformatted text, but I cant seem to extract the formatting tags out of the left textField and apply them to the right - all I can get is plain text. (The system uses a StyleSheet by the way - so it is applied to both textFields).I 've tried:

I have some HTML loaded from an XML document that includes web links (anchor tags). I am using a TextField object to display the text, and am plugging the XML data into the htmlText property of the TextField, and the text is rendering with HTML markup, links are working etc.
The problem I'm seeing is that a new line is created before and after the link, so html like this:
hello world <a href ="#">this is a link</a> and all of this should be on the same line.
is rendered like this (with specific attention paid to the new lines): Does anyone know of a way to prevent these new lines from appearing when using HTML links within a TextField?
I'm working on a project and I'm encountering an issue with Flash's sporadic support of HTML 1.01 for textboxes that use .htmlText.The "Title" attribute is not supported for showing tooltips when you hover over the link.For instance, in an HTML document, a href='index.html' title='Click Here' will show 'Click Here' in a hovering tooltip box. It doesn't display in Flash.Anyone know of a good work around? I found this page: have yet to get it working with my text. For instance, I have one textbox, and the URL links are set for various words. This means I don't have the coordinates to set my X and Y for the fake hover effect.
View 4 RepliesI currently have two problems with Flex 3 htmlText.
1) When I am setting my text's htmlText:
myText.htmlText = <html text stored in my mysql database>
It calculates the height way wrong. In most cases, a ton of padding (or whitespace) is added above and below the text. I am not sure what happens, but it calculates the textHeight way higher than normally.
2) If I put <span> tags in my html, it automatically strips them out (instead of just ignoring them). I am using the span tags to be able to dynamically find certain pieces of my text. For instance:
<span class="salutation">Dear,</span> <span class="tag">[First Name]</span>
is inserted in my htmlText, and I use them to parse out the salutation and tag of my variable data.
Any alternative ideas on how to parse out pieces of html? Any way to improve htmlText? How to correctly measure textHeight and/or remove padding?

View 3 RepliesI'm importing an XML document into a flash movie. The XML is using HTML tags so that I can highlight certain words and use HTML links in the text field the data is being loaded into.
But the issue I'm having is that all of the < and > tags and all information within it being displayed within the text field.
The text field's html property is true. The text field's multiline property is true. In the XML document, the text that I'm having load into this text field is separated by the CDATA tag so that it doesn't get parsed out.
I just can't figure it out. Before I used the CDATA tag, I put all the necessary < and > tags in place, and I'm getting the same results.
I don't know why everything is being displayed even though I'm rendering this text as HTML.
The title says it all. I am using CS4 with AS 3.0. Does htmlText property on components support CSS styles???
View 5 RepliesI have XML written using PHP taken from a database, which flash then uses to print out iinto a flash file dynamic text box. It all works fine as required, apart from not rendering html tags properly within the textfield, such as <p> and <b>. Below is my php, wrapped in the CDATA tags:

the textfield (mytext) is obviously within movie clip - theMovie - movies. As i mentioned the text is getting printed out fine from the database, but it ends up being just one block of text without formatting, and the tags that should be html are being taken and written literally.
Is there anything glaringly obvious that I'm not including to make sure that <p> tags and <b> tags etc. are rendered correctly, rather than just writing them out as "<p>" in the textfield?
I am loading some content into a Flash Text Area component via an XML file, within the XML I am formating via HTML, problem is flash only seems to recognize some tags and not others. For example it has no problem with the <p>, <br>, <ul> tags, but refuses to recognize any image or anchor/link tags. here a sample of my XML

these are basically input fields, but for some reason they are passing all the html tag assigned to the flash textfields. (used to style the flash components) is there a quick way to kill that with either php or flash??
I'm experiencing problems with HTML tags within textfields (multiline textfields). HTML rendering is activated. Fonts are embedded for bold and regular Verdana. In AS3 I also have declared the field as html (instancename.htmlText = "tekst".Now I have all my html code in a sql database which load through php. The whole text loads including the bold, underlined and italic htmltext make up.The problem is that the text on line 1 shows as:"8: you must click ok" (<b>8:</b> you must click ok<br>)But the text on line 2 shows as:" : submitting" (<b>9:</b> thanks for submitting <br>)I have checked the html tags over and over and there is no fault in that.

My google skill does not yield good results.The flash media player should dispatch events specified at https:[url]..._audio_and_video_in_FireFox (or at least talk to javascript some how for those events).Do you know a flash media player that can easily be embedded inside <audio> or <video> and talks to javascript for events?
View 2 RepliesI usually manage to make my textFields work properly.I have this TextField that I inject HTML formatted text (contained in a XML file). For some reason, almost all my tags are ignored (<b>,<i>,<u>,<ul> and <li>). I can only get it to render <br /> tags properly. I could use a StyleSheet, but I don't think it would make my lists work...Here's how things are set up:

Edit: So I decided to test having no CDATA in my XML, and adding the <b> tag in my AS3 code. Didn't work either. I don't get how I can have my fonts correctly embed, but Flash refusing to use them.
I'm having a problem in flex 3 where if a static const I have defined is used as the parameter to a function call within binding tags I get a "1120: Access of undefined property NodePropertyMatrix". _propMtx is a ArrayCollection.

trying to work with "simple" XML for the first time. I'm building a small CMS for a Flash based site and the content is held in an XML file. My problem is that many of the copy fields are XML CDATA fields. on the one hand, with:
$xml = simplexml_load_file($file, 'SimpleXMLElement', LIBXML_NOCDATA);
I can pull the data out of that node and the CDATA tags are stripped. My issues come with trying to save the data with:
file_put_contents($file, $xml->asXML());
Problems are: a) tags are interpreted with their HTML entity equivalents. I don't want this to happen.I gather this is coming from the asXML method because even if I do anhtml_entity _decode on the $_POST data it's still being converted.
b) because of the above, there's no way to add the CDATA tags because they also have their charachters converted.
I'm trying to retrieve values that are embedded in the object tag on the HTML page. Is this possible? I've been trying to find how to do this, but all hits point out to how to embed flash in HTML and rarely do I find on which tells me how to retrieve data from HTML into flash.

I'm using a custom tooltip in order to be able to use html tags. The method I used is described here.I'm using SDK v.3.5. I also did a little hack so that the TooltipManager.tooltipClass would work (check this post for more details).Here's some code.

Everything works fine BUT 2 things: First, font colors tags don't work. If ever I use sth like <font color='0xadadad'>...</font> it won't work. However, if I use <u>...</u>, it works fine
Second, the <a href='...'>...</a> does not work either. I checked in several websites, and the solution would be to set the selectable property of the text to true.
I was wondering if flash can load html document, the way browser displays it.
View 1 RepliesI have a component I have built in AS3 that takes a parameter which is likely to change with each instance of the component on stage. ie. the parameter will be different on frame2 to what it was on frame1.
The problem I am having is that flash will not recognise the change of parameter and redraw the component unless I do something like giving it a different instance name or putting it on a new layer. I find this very puzzling as I have the exact same component in AS2 and am not required to perform these actions to get it working.
I want to create a component with a variable/parameter that is a method it calls when (clicked on for example). In "Flash UI Components.fla" the they do this and I studied the code but cant get it to work. The Push Button one has a click handler, but the way it is actually called in the script is like this:

That bracket/parenthesis thing is not working.
