Flash :: Text Formatting Underline Spacing?
Feb 26, 2010So if I want to imitate a link in as3, when I set
myFormat.underline = true;
the underline is directly underneath my text. Is there any way I can set the spacing of that underland?

I did a search and there seems to be many solutions by adding code, etc. I tried using the Line Tool to underline some text and it shows up fine on the stage but when I preview it, the line does not show up.

Oct 1, 2009I used to have a little text panel (that sat with the color, swatches, and align panels) that I was able to open up and edit text size, color, underline, etc with. It had a much better text editing ability then the properties panel, seeing as the properties panel does not even bother to allow me to underline text or to highlight and edit a single word in a whole text box. Now I don't have it, I can't find the damn thing anywhere, and I want it back. How can I get it?

Jun 28, 2010I just upgraded to flash player 10.1 and there's an issue with a program that I've been working on. I'm copying text from a mysql table that is formatted with spaces and newlines (including spaces and newlines at the beginning of the text) into a textArea in Flex 3.5. Before the update,it worked fine. Now when AS retrieves the text from the table, it does not include the spaces and newlines at the beginning of the text.I'm using xml to retrieve the text.

The text in these dynamic boxes is scripted to link to web addresses contained in the RSS feeds in the same node as the text being displayed. So far so good. Now I need the text in these boxes to act as if they were HTML links and show an underline and color change when rolled over and clicked on.

Is there a way to do this purely through CSS or do I need to programmatically capture the mouse events and set the styles accordingly (seems like overkill)?

Feb 3, 2012I use the setStyle("textDecoration", "underline"); for showing an underline on text hover. This works fine but the underline is touching the text itself. Is it possible to put some spacing between text and the underline?
Update: 02/072012 I'm using Flex SDK 3.5 so I cant use the spark solution for now. Im using Label component and setting the textfield's style.

Mar 18, 2011I've got a dynamic html text field in flash which pulls content from an XML file, which is being generated by a CMS using CK Editor. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it, but flash represents a <br/> tag with a space that seems more fitting for a <p> tag, and a <p> tag renders with about double that amount. How do I control this? I've tried specifying margins in the flash css file, but it has no effect. Is there something I can declare in the actual actionscript code?

On the over state I have changed the colour of the text and in the properties inspector typed in the email commanAnyway the text becomes underlined and when I test the movie and mouseover the text jumps up a little and is not smooth. To see what I am referring to: [URL] and go to the Conversion Tools at the bottom of the page. Click on Surface Finish and type in a value in the two different fields and click calculate. Jun 2, 2010On my website Im trying to display examples of code. Ive been hitting a rather large wall when it comes to flash and how it deals with formatting text.
If I simply load as regular text I get a massive amount of extra white space and lose all my indenting. If I load as htmlText, I can get it to remove most of the white space but not all. I can also get some indenting using htmlText but it only applies to 'paragraphs' as a whole, which is obviously irrelevant with code, and requires me to go back to way too much white space.
Is there anyway I can get flash to load -exactly- what I see in notepad in regards to white space and indenting at the same time?
Flash Form Sending Text Formatting Through PHP?
Nov 28, 2007I am working on a fairly simple form in flash that sends its text input (name, email, subject, and message) to a php file that in turn sends an email containing the inputted text. I tried searching the forums but I couldn't find another case quite like this. Basically I'd like the email sent to just include the inputted text, but it seems that the variables are passing all the text box formatting in addition to the inputted text. I will include my AS, php, and email result below.

ActionScript 2.0 :: HTML Text Formatting Through Flash
Mar 13, 2003I know that with actionscript you can assign certain formating to the HTML text that you use within your Flash animation.
My question is if you can also use actionscript to do the following.
In HTML when you assign as FONT format... font face="verdana,arial" when the user does not have verdana installed, the browser automatically choses Arial (or whatever font you indicated and available on users system) as font to use.
Is the same thing possible within Flash HTML text?
Obviously to prevent that when people don't have the particular font you use for your HTML text, everything screws up
