public function update():void

A(); \Dispatches a event with Remote Call

i have some actionscript that makes a
ExternalInterface.call('someFunction');
call.is it possible to reference the html object that made the call to someFunction directly using the ExternalInterface.call call?
Assume that the object that makes the call also has some Callbacks (via ExternalInterface.addCallback) that are accessible via javascript.
Currently:
Actionscript source
ExternalInterface.call("someFunction");
ExternalInterface.addCallback("someCallback",someASfunction);

I have a Flex and Java application and i am using BlazeDS between flex and java. Generally my application works fine. I observed when ever i try fetch data little faster(not giving gap between two fetch commands) then i am getting the error "Server error :faultCode:Channel.Call.Failed faultString:'error' faultDetail:'NetConnection.Call.Failed: HTTP: Failed'"
I guess when ever load is increasing on BlazeDs, i am getting the error. I am calling the java service using following code

Below is the overriden on complete function for a preloader in Flex.
private function initComplete(e:Event):void
{
//dispatchEvent(new Event(Event.COMPLETE));
cp.status.text="Configuring... Please Wait";
}
What I want to do is when the app has finsihed loading I want to change the preloaders text to "configuring".Then I want to go and do a bunch of setup stuff in my code.Once I've done all the setup I wanted how can I get the Preloader to dispatch its Event.complete from else where in my code?I tried Application.application.preloader but it comes up null.So I guess my question really is how to access a preloader from anywhere in my application. Would a better approach be to have all setup classes as members of my preloader class?
If it's possible to call a webservice with an attachment from Flex Webservices?

public var func : Function;
Now the function is a function that has parameters in its signature

func.call();
how to invoke the function with its parameters?
In the code below when I call chkAuthentication function from another function the remoteObj.login (login function in my service file (.php)) is called after the remaining code in that function. i.e., the loginStatus is returned from the function before the result-handler function loginResult is called. but my loginStatus is supposed to be set in loginResult function. It seems that the asynchronous behaviour is the culprit. what should I do in order to get the loginResult function to complete first?

I want to call the sortCompareFunction for a particular row when the grids first loads. Is this possible? Otherwise is there a way to call a sort method on grid load after it has been asssigned the dataprovdier has been updatad
View 2 RepliesI am using ExtrernalInterface.call(javascript_function, args); to call javascript functions from Flex. But this fails in case of browsers that have javascript disabled. Is there any other way to call javascript functions from flex?
View 3 RepliesI need it in FlexUnit to test private methods. Is there any possibility to do this via reflection by using describeType or maybe flexUnit has some build in facility? I dislike artificial limitation that i cannot test private functions, it greatly reduces flexibility. Yes it is good design for me to test private functions, so please do not advise me to refactor my code. I do not want to break the encapsulation for the sake of unit testing.
View 4 RepliesI've just gone through the basic (and exciting) stuff in both of them. I just want to call a Perl subroutine from Flex. Is it possible? If so how?
View 2 RepliesMy flex 3.5 application has an audio player whose content is accessed by calling an AMF service to get the mp3 data. As far as I can tell, flash.media.Sound is initialized with a URLRequest, so it's not clear to me how I can provide it with data using my RemoteObject.
I want to do one of the following things:
Provide data to the Sound object's load method from a RemoteObject service call.
Create a URLRequest object that will perform the requisite AMF wrapping so that my service implementation will look exactly like any other service call if at all possible. Any alternative that allows me to invoke a PHP4 AMF service and play the audio it returns in a Flash audio player.

I have some problem with calling web service from flex. I have service with name UserService with one method string GetData(int i). I want to call this method from flex and get data. My code is here:

uService.addEventListener("hello", echoResultHandler);
uService.GetData(1);

So, I create standard AS3 flex project. In constructor goes only start();
rest of functions are basically this:
private start():void { f1();}
private function f1():void { f2();}
private function f2():void { f1();}
And it's standard recursion. SWF either breaks or loops as many times as I tell it. One f calls the other, which calls first... I do not want that.
I want f1 to do some stuff, calls f1 and closes itself. Than f2 works, calls f1 and closes. And so on.
Like having 2 sets of code that loops through.
What's the cleanest way to do that?

I have a page made of custom components. In that page I have a button. If I click the button I have to call another page (page.mxml consisting of custom components). Then click event handler is written in Action-script, in a separate file. How to make a object of an MXML class, in ActionScript? How to display the object (i.e. the page)?

I am now developing a Flex application in which I need to control each pixel of my control of Flex. I want to calculate that how width and how height of some text used in my control and do some layout stuff.After some searching I find that the only way to draw text in Flex is to use something like TextField. So, I use TextField to display text and try to get the width and height of the text through:
textfiled.getLineMetrics(0).width/.height;
But the real textfield is much more bigger than this, so I do:
textfield.width = textfiled.getLineMetrics(0).width;
textfield.height = textfiled.getLineMetrics(0).height;
But, the textfield get part not displayed, and I am surprised by this effect. I know there should be a 2-pixel gutter around the text, but what the remain space? Why nearly 20% part of the text height/width are not displayed?
how can I get a real drawText call in Flex, I mean something like Windows's drawText method...
I have a Flex 3.4 app that embeds a swf with mx:SwfLoader...
That swf has a public function named "playIt". I've tried dispatching events to gettingHere.content, casting gettingHere.content as a MovieClip and other stuff...
var swfApp:MovieClip = MovieClip(gettingHere.content);
if (swfApp.hasOwnProperty("playIt")) {
var helloWorld:Function = (swfApp["playIt"] as Function);
helloWorld();
}
I want to call the parent function called "edit_groups()" from the itemRenderer. The code for my itemRenderer is:
<mx:VBox id="vbx_container" paddingBottom="4" paddingLeft="4" paddingRight="4" paddingTop="4" borderStyle="solid"
dropShadowEnabled="true" width="100%" height="100%" horizontalScrollPolicy="off" verticalScrollPolicy="off" >
<mx:Canvas width="100%" height="100%" horizontalScrollPolicy="off" verticalScrollPolicy="off" >
<mx:Image id="image" width="100" height="100" source="{data.thumb}" scaleContent="true" maintainAspectRatio="true"
complete="{image_smoothing_handler(event);}" trustContent="true" doubleClick="{Call The Parent Function"edit_groups()"}"/>
</mx:Canvas></mx:VBox>
And I call my itemRenderer from an application like:
list_groups_modify.itemRenderer=new ClassFactory(groups.list_groups_modify_item_renderer);
<mx:Label text="{data.label}" textAlign="center" maxWidth="60" toolTip="{data.label}"/>
