I am having a problem setting the dataField for each of the DataGridColumn ojects created.The DataGrid is created but the cell values for row 1 are all 0.51 and row 2 are 0.61.

In the set data function of the itemRenderer, I receive an entire week (which is ok), but the itemRenderer doesn't know which day to use because the dataField is unknown. Does anyone know how to reach this dataField in the itemRenderer?

Is there any opensourse, free set of components for creating Flex mxml graphs? like aviary Peacock style ones with at least Drag, drop, and connect generators so each graph element could have or something like that. Framework should be opensource (like GPL, LGPL etc) BTW: I found one wary bacic made by Erno Aapa with Degrafa but I would really love to see something much more Flex 4 - mxml oriented and frienfdly.
View 2 RepliesI have an image gallery app that has a slider to control the width of the thumbnails that ranges from 80 to 1024. As you move the slider the thumbnails width changes to effectively scaling the image between 80px and 1024px. Below the thumbnail is some information about the image such as the name, size, dimensions, etc. There is also a set of icons that do various tasks (delete, edit, copy, etc). All of this information is located within a VBox.The problem I am having is I would like to have the VBox hide when the width of the thumbnail reaches 150 px or below. This I have been able to accomplish with the following code:
<mx:VBox visible = "{thumbnail.width > 150}">The issue is that while the information within the VBox is now not visible, the real estate it takes up is not released. In other words, there is now a blank space the exact size of the VBox. What I'd like to do is to be able to release this space. I know this is probably something simple that I'm overlooking, but today my brain is just not working,
I can't seem to get this right and everything I read is kind of like my problem but not quite. This seems like it would be pretty easy. All I want to do is set the value of a datafield using a function. I call in an xml file and can set the value of a datafield from that xml (in this case it's a category id as a number). But then I want to translate that number into a name by correlating it with a different data array.
so basically i just need to pass the catId into a function in the datafield but can't get it to work.

View 3 RepliesThe question seems to be simple, however it create problems for me. I have a dataGrid with two dataFields: peerID, name. The information in a grid updated dynamically when new user joined the group (I'm creating a chat). I need that information about user deleted from a grid after it's disconnect. So, on "NetGroup.Neighbor.Disconnect": event i want to compare "event.info.peerID" value with all peerID values in a grid and delete info about disconnected user.
I'm trying to use next construction:

I'v noticed that construction txtDataArray.source[i] (or txtDataArray.getItemAt(i) ) returned [object GridColumn] insead of value. So, I have two questions:
1) How to get the value of exact cell?
2) How to organized info delete after user disconnect?
I have an advanced data grid in flex (flash builder 4). It's dataProvider is pointing to an ArrayCollection (this._encounters). Inside that array collection is a property that is an object (a client object).
I tried setting the dataField to "clientObj.firstName" to refer to the first name property within the clientObj property of the this._encounters array collection. It did not show anything. So, I added a labelFunction to that column (code below) to set the text in the cell. This works fine and now I have values showing in the grid.
The problem is now when I click the title of column to sort it. It throws an error that property clientObj.firstName is not found in my array collection!So, is there a better way to set the dataField / source for a column and point at a property in a sub-object -- or a way to fix the sort?

In the mxml above, this is the changed line - notice the stringSortByField added:

If it were a numeric field use the numericSortByField. If it were a date string from a database, use the dateSortByField function instead.
I have an AS3 program that is loading an external XML file. I seem to be having a problem setting Boolean values from the nodes with true or false in them. When I set a Boolean var from a node in the XML it always traces as true. When I trace out all of the XML I can see that those nodes do indeed say false, but the trace shows true. I don't seem to have this problem with uint and String, only Boolean.

I have an AdvancedDataGrid tree with a ArrayCollection as its dataprovider. Now, for instance, i drag a leaf from one node to another node. To catch the event I'm adding a Listener to dragComplete.

My Problem: I want to know the new node where the leaf was dropped. Actually i would have expected that in the event there is a property like dropParent. This is not the case.
I've got a section in my code where I am trying to pull up a particular xml node based on an id value I have. When I try to pull it up via the method shown the code stops executing at that point. In other words, the "got here" is traced but neither of the two lines after it or any code below that point in the function seem to get executed. If I take that line out the code executes just fine. I'm using this same xml object in many places and the xml data is fine it is just when I try to use this syntax that it gets confused.
I'm also a bit confused as to why the code just stops. I realize that flash doesn't generally display errors at runtime, but if it doesn't show up as a compile error or warning what is the best way to avoid the code hang up? Also is this the correct way to access the node? I actually am trying to retrieve the team attribute on the same node with an id that I'm using in the xml search query. Should playXML.players.(@id == '18431').@team get me that value? It seems to cause the same behavior any time I try to use that syntax even with other attributes from the player nodes and if I use something like playXML.players.@id it returns all the nodes id attributes.

Edit:I dropped a try/catch statement around this block and that solves the code execution issue but I still can't access the node I want with a given id using the playXML.players.(@id == '18431') style syntax.
I know how to use setStyle to change the defaultLeafIcon, but how can I modify a node's leaficon at runtime so that all my child nodes can have seperate linkage icons instead of using the defaultLeafIcon every time?

In my RadioBtnColumnItemRenderer.mxml, I have a box with a radioButton... like so:

When I run the application, the radio button shows up in the column as it should. However, I cannot select just ONE of the radio buttons. I am able to select all of them, but I don't want this... I want the ability to select one and then if I select another one, then the first one is unselected and the current one becomes selected (just like you would expect radio buttons to work).
How can I validate the cells in a DataGridColumn individually? (ActionScript 3.5) The validation is configured per-cell, based on fields in the given row. For example

I can't see a way to get rid of certain borders within a DataGrid. I'd like to eliminate a side border on 2 of my columns so that they appear to look like a single column.I'm trying to implement a "clear value" button on each of my DataGrid rows. I was able to have a button show on a custom ItemRenderer from a separate ActionScript file, but I was unsure how to have the button click event propagate to the mxml file where the DataGrid is located. It would be much easier for me to have an extra unresizable column with a 'clear' button.
So, to reiterate: Is there any way to change the border style or eliminate certain borders of a DataGridColumn?
I have a DatagridColumn in flex with two names, TYPE and NAME. Now, when I am sorting a datagridcolumn, TYPE, it sorts the type using sortcomparefunction and gives the result which contains grouped and sorted order of elements. Ex. if I sort for type I get elements in pdf, doc, ppt in grouped order, but they are internally not sorted, ex: for the pdf part, I have elements such as:
TYPE NAME
pdf A1.pdf
pdf X2.pdf
pdf B1.pdf
Here the filetypes are sorted, but for a particular filetype, the elements are not, please notice that B1 occurs after X2, which should be sorted. Is there a way I can sort the second datagridcolumn after sorting the first one according to filetype extensions? I am using sortcomparefunction for sorting the elements according to type , which works fine. The signature is:

Is it possible to display a multiline string in a Flex DataGridColumn?i.e. Display:

I've tried putting "

"," " when storing the string but nothing seems to work.Currently only "Text line one." is displayed and the rest is hidden in the cell. I would prefer not to use "wordWrap=true" to emulate this behaviour in the cell, but instead be able to manually put in newline breaks (although I could turn on wordWrap to avoid long text from hiding due to cell dimensions).
