Flex :: Upload File Larger Than 100MB?
Jan 31, 2011
I want to upload larger than 100 MB local file and then send it to remove Java server.
I got these possible alternatives:
Use FileReference Flex class, which is not recommended for files larger than 100Mb, and hope that the application will not crash. Slice the given file to small parts, then send them. For me, this seems pretty harsh decision.
The question: Are there some Flex library which allows sending larger files than 100Mb?
If the answer is NOT, are there some 3rd party libraries for the same thing?
If not, are there some 3rd party libraries for 'slicing' files and sending them asynchronously to server?
EDIT: If I sliced the file to parts, how large they are supposed to be (for proper hash check)?

I created an application as part of an ASP.NET site. I would like to receive error notifications in my inbox whenever something goes wrong with that flash application.As I do not have control over our mail server (which has a different domain name), I cannot establish a cross domain policy allowing me to send error emails to my inbox.Instead, thought I'd send a request to an ASP.NET handler that sends an email on behalf of the flash app.Now the problem: the error report should include a screenshot of the flash application at the time the error occurred. The FileReference class however only allows file uploads with user interaction (browse dialog) and cannot be used programmatically to send the screenshot to my ASP.NET handler. The plain old POST back only allows files up to ~200K.

My webserver has a php upload limit at 20MB, so therefore I want to set up a ftp connection so that I can upload much larger files to my ftp. How is it done? I understand I can use socket and filereference, but I can't figure out how to set it up. (It hasn't have to be "ultra safe")

I have assets in external swfs which I load. I would like to know the exact size of the stage and the position of the asset in the fla that created it. If I try to ask the resulting MovieClip for it's size, it turns out it gives me the size when it is trimmed down to the tightest box around the non-transparent pixels. Looking at the contentLoaderInfo, I can get the original width/height that was used by the fla file, which is great. However, I still need to know where to place the asset within the stage.. basically I need an x/y offset for it.
The reason I need this is for a customizable avatar - it has many parts, which are placed in different areas on a stage to create the full avatar. I would like to be able to combine the individual swfs for each part to achieve this.

my listener.onComplete = function(selectedFile:FileReference) is fired without any file in the upload dir. if the file is small and I wait a bit I can see the file (through FTP) coming up on the server, but most of the times the "onComplete" if fired without any file being saved.
can I add something to this php code to make sure the file is uploaded?

I have now ran into Flex Fileupload problem on ssl as many others have. I simply get an IOError, no other information as to what caused the error was given, ssl handshake or something else. How do I nail down the cause of the error? I tried using the ';jsessionid=' trick, still no luck. FYI, I am running on local https server, with self signed cert. Everthing works fine without ssl. With ssl, it only works on IE (FF, Chrome, Safari fails on https). With other browsers, server doesn't even get the request.

I'm trying to perform a file upload using a FileReference from a Flex app running in Firefox 4. However when I attempt to call the upload() method, the Filereference throws an IOError with the following Error #2038: File I/O Error. URL: [URL] If I don't explicitly add a listener for the IOErrorEvent, then I get a Flash player popup stating SecurityError: Error #2000: No active security context.
The request doens't even hit my server (I can verify by placing breakpoints in the Java code and watching the HTTP Requests that go out using HTTPFox), so it seems to me that this is a client side issue (right?). I've done some searching for the problem on google and the suggestions included wrapping the upload() call in a timeout/callLater, and attempting to attach the sessionId to the request (since Firefox creates a new thread for the upload and doesn't attach the proper cookies). Neither of these approaches has worked for me. I don't experience this problem with Internet Explorer, only Firefox.

I am trying to upload the files to the remote server using PHP with Flex interface. If it's not localhost, it shows the security error. I have already put the crossdomain.xml in the tomcat web app root directory to allow all the domains. However, the security error is still shown when I tried to upload the file.

I have a flex app that allows the user to upload a file.The flex side uses the FileReference.upload method that goes to an .aspx page that handles the upload. It works only intermittently when I have IIS set to integrated windows authentication.That said, for testing purposes,I wrote a separate aspx page that does a file upload and this always works.I'd like to leverage the file import,though, within the nice looking flex app and not kick off a new webpage for a file upload.In looking at the IIS logs I have a hypothesis as to what's happening, and want to know if someone has full understanding as to why it may only intermittently work and can confirm or deny this: Flex' FileReference upload guts does whatever it does on the client then initiates a POST request to my .aspx page.On the times it failes, the IIS logs state that IE didn't pass the credentials so denies the request then sends a 401 response.
I don't get this 401 response on the flex side even though I'm listening for HTTP status codes (flash bug?).A new request is somehow immediately made to perform the upload again (it's not my code). I'm inferring this by looking at the IIS lgos which shows a second POST right after the previous one, only this time the user credentials are sent through, but the kicker is that the file the user uploaded is not uploaded this time. I infer this by the fact that the IIS logs show 0 bytes are posted, whereas the previous 401 request show a lot of bytes are POSTed.On the times it does work, what happens is that the first request for the HTTP POST the FileReference makes so happens to send the windows credentials along, so the client is not challenged.

Does anyone know the file upload hack for Flex, which will allow files to be uploaded to authenticated web services via multipart form post? In this bug report from the Adobe site, a user reports: Flash isn't cross-browser compatible if this feature only works via Javascript hacks. So far, I've been unable to craft such a hack. I'm unsure what to do next. Here's what I've tried so far (all have been unsuccessful or impossible).

We're trying to upload a file from a flex client to a JEE app.
In a full HTTPS environment
JEE server is JBoss 5
Using BlazeDS 'Custom' authentication (username and password are entered through a flex form)
Using BlazeDS per session authentication
In regular AMF calls, we can access user principal and use role mechanism. However, in our upload servlet, we have no access to user principal.
request.getUserPrincipal() // returns null

I'm trying to implement a simple application which uses Flex on the front end and a Spring/Hibernate application on the back end, with communication between the two going over a BlazeDS channel.
I'm seeking direction as to the best and/or simplest way to approach this. I have the UI set up in such a way that the user is presented with a file chooser in which they pick the image file they want to upload. When this is chosen and submitted (as a form submission) then the server side should receive the image file data as well as some related metadata such as a description and date, then populate a Hibernate entity/POJO with the image file data and related metadata, and then persist the entity/POJO into the database.
I have found some examples of how you would do a file upload and download using servlets here and the FileReference class (here and here) but these don't appear to address the problem in a way which leverages BlazeDS and/or Spring/Hibernate. I want to put the image file data and related metadata (description, capture date, etc.) into a value object within the Flex application and then send this over BlazeDS to a service provided by my Spring/Hibernate application running on Tomcat. In this service I want to extract the image data (both the actual JPG/PNG/GIF data and the related metadata such as description, etc.) from the value object sent from the Flex app into an entity/POJO which is then persisted via Hibernate in my database.
Can this be done, and if so what's the best way to go about it? Am I mistaken in assuming that if I use BlazeDS then I am somehow bypassing the need to provide HTTP-based services such as servlets on the server side and instead I can use my Java services as "RemoteObjects"? Is there necessarily a one-to-one mapping between Java POJO/entity class and the Flex value object class when making this sort of transfer? If so is there a tool which creates corresponding Flex value objects from Java POJOs or vice versa.
Update: Some code to make this more clear:I have this as my value object in Flex:
package valueobjects
{
import flash.utils.ByteArray;
[Bindable]
[code]....
When I set a breakpoint in the method above and look at the image variable it looks to be empty, so I'm assuming that the transformation from the Flex value object to the Java POJO did not go as expected and that there's more to it than just adding a RemoteClass alias in the Flex value object class.

We use the FileReference component to upload file in Flex. But if the application is deployed within an environment having NTLM authentication (Windows Integrated Authentication), the upload capability will not work, and each time a message box will be popup asking the user to input credentials.I've queried some resource from internet and it seems this is a bug of FileReference component.

i have a flex file upload application over https it works fine on all IE browsers. Recently a client with IE9 reported a complaint that she's not able to upload files. can see the error generated is IO Error #2038. The adobe documentation says 2038 is File I/O Error.This error occurs when an application can't get file size, creation date or modification data using the FileReference API.
All i can think of is browser issues like, browser cache, some new configuration in IE9 am unaware of or permission on the client directory.

Can you use the FileReference.upload() function to upload files to Sharepoint or do I have to use the SP web services? This is without adding your own ASP.NET Web Services, just using the built in SP Web Services.
