I'm building an Flex 4 application using IntelliJ IDEA 9.0.2 generated sample Flex application. I replace the generated mxml with the following code from the book Hello Flex 4. It simply crashes the browser when I run it. It says "Waiting for [URL]..and then crashes I tried it on both FF 3.5.9 and Chrome 4.

First, here's what I want to do:
* Compile my library code into a SWC * Do not staticly link the Flex framework
At first, I tried just setting up a Flex module, clicking the "library" and "use framework as an RSL" buttons. This however doesn't compile any of my code into the SWC, and it basically just compiles a new SWC of the entire Flex framework, all resources and classes included.
Then, I managed to get my classes into the build using a custom compiler config, but it still includes the few Flex classes that I reference in my library code.
Finally, I figured I could use the custom flex-config.xml file, remove the parent reference to the library using <library-path append="false"></library-path> and then using a custom command line parameter (and also from ant), add -compiler.external-library-path references to the SDK and PlayerGlobal.swc. This should probably work, but Idea won't let me set command line parameters when I'm using a custom config file
I've got the following Flex code in an MXML file:

where the "BUILD::version" is meant to be substituted from symbols defined in compiler options:
-define BUILD::version "'LOCAL'"
The Flex plugin doesn't seem to understand the compiler option usage syntax and flags "BUILD" and "version" as "unresolved variable or type"
I installed flash player debugger and cannot able to debug the flash application. And I got following message in console.

When I make changes to a Flex project and rerun the project, it seems that FlashBuilder4 rewrites my html wrapper that embeds the SWF. But I have additional javascript code in the html wrapper and don't want to keep losing my code. I had to re-write the code once and it was a pain in the neck.How do I stop it from re-writing the html. And the related question: how do I stop it from deleting the html during a clean?I basically need to exclude the html from its processing once it's been created the first time. P.S. I'm using Flash Builder 4, but I suppose it's the same in Flex Builder 3.
View 3 RepliesIn Flex builder 3 when I create a new flex application targeting the flex 4 sdk, it wont generate a html wrapper file. I have hunted around the web for answers, but no success. I have made sure the box is checked in the project properties to generate html wrapper.
The only workaround is to target an older version of the sdk (i.e. 3.2), which will cause the wrapper to be generated. Then I can revert the project to sdk 4. This then means I can never do a clean of my project because this will result in the wrapper being deleted. Has anyone else come across this? Is this just a bug with Flexbuilder3?
I use HTMLLoader component, and I have to load thousand of different websites per days by this component.But some times, HTML component produce several crash/days of my AIR application

like this with php in the html?

Then perhaps in the swf with as3 using something like this?

I am using Flash Builder 4. In the Flex Compiler option, I checked 'Generate HTML wrapper file', and then added some text to the alternateContent variable in the auto generated index.template.html wrapper found in html-template folder. For Run/debug settings I have the src/index.html file set as the file to be launched. In the bin-debug folder, the index.html incorporates the content of the html wrapper, and when I run the app in debug mode it behaves as I would expect. However, when I export a release build, the index.html file doesn't incorporate the content of the html wrapper file, and therefore doesn't do the check for a valid version of Flash Player. Do I have to manually copy the index.html file from bin-debug to bin-release each time I export a release build (this does seem to work)
View 1 RepliesIf I load a swf in FlashPlayer standalone, it will play nice and smooth. If I load the HTML it's embedded in (with SWFObject) in a browser it stutters like hell. If I use my browser to open the swf on its own, that runs nearly as smooth as in the standalone player.
That the standalone player runs smoother is understandable, since it then doesn't need to go through the browser layer. A slight performance decrease when adding the HTML DOM layer is also understandable, but in my case the difference is huge!
If I were to guess:
Standalone: 100% (benchmark)
SWF in browser: 90%
SWF in HTML in browser: 30%
Environment: I am using Flash CS3 and targettting my application for Flash Player 9, I have installed Flash Player 10 on my machine. I am getting a flash player 10b.ocx error, which causes into crash of the browser. I am loading a bunch of images in this application. (20-30 at a time). using Loader class.
I have three questions: Is it the flash player error causing the browser to crash or something in my code is wrong?what possibly can go wrong in AS3 code to cause this error if it is not a flash player error?What could be the possible resolution for the same?
Is it possible to run a Flex client in IntelliJ internally and have it talk to a separately deployed server instance? The server's a java webapp. This will make developing, especially debugging, much easier. What I'm trying to avoid is having to rebuild and redeploy the webapp to get the updated Flex code in it. I want to just build flex and run it against the server.
The flex client is embedded in an HTML page on the server, so in production the users access the client by going to a web page. We're using GraniteDS if that's important.

I'm managed to cobble something together, but it's ugly.I made a copy of our wrapper HTML page and fixed the links to refer to the SWF in target.I setup the IntelliJ run config to point to that HTML page.I set the 'Place SWF file in a local-trusted sandbox' to true
Hardcoded the {server.name}, {server.port}, and {context.root} values in the service-config.xml GraniteDS config file to localhost, etc.
I can mavenize #1, but #3's isn't really a permanent solution. That part is still a problem because I can't check this in.
I've run into a troubling issue where using the NetStream class is causing odd video playback behaviour, major disk query issues, and also leading to my browsers crashing (tested on FireFox 3.5.X, IE 8, and Safari 3/4 with Flash plugin 10,0,42,34). I tested the issue on a Macbook as well and noticed the same thing, so it wasn't something specific to my machine. I wrote a basic Flex application to test this. I make a NetConnection to my web server. When successful, I create a NetStream to playback the video (F4V encoding of Big Buck Bunny). Immediately in Windows Performance Monitor, I can see the Disk queue jump to 100%. The video eventually pauses for a lengthy period of time. Sometimes the browser also becomes unresponsive at this time, and in other cases it will crash. If the video does eventually resume (disk querying reduces a bit), I experience odd behaviour with the video. If I pause the video (NetStream.pause()), when I resume the video (NetStream.resume()), the video begins to fast-forward to make up for the amount of time lost while the video was paused. So if I paused the video for 10 seconds, Flash will fast-forward in 1-second intervals through 10 seconds worth of video. During this time, NetStream will constantly dispatch buffering end and buffering full events.
What's odd is that the problem doesn't seem to happen when I add an additional arument in the play command. NetStream.play(url) will cause the issue, but NetStream.play(url, 0) will not. However, this doesn't always work. My own player, which has a lot more interface controls and complex logic, still suffers from the problem, despite that I'm not doing anything with the NetStream object.
I've written an html page that is using some javascript to hide and display a flash movie object. It all works fine until I try to exit from the tab, and when that happens the entire browser will crash with not so much as an error text box.

I am using the preLoadAssetManager from [Url] to preload 14 FLVs which range from 500K to 4MB in size to the users cache. Some users have complained that when they try to play a video, the browser (IE 6 & Firefox on Windows) completely freezes and they have to close out out of the browser. So my question is: Can preloading too many assets cause the browser to freeze/crash?
View 2 RepliesI've got an animated banner for my site which I've grown quite attached to. It's a scene of the sky with the Title of my site on it and there are clouds that move constantly across it.Now the tricky part and part that I think might be freezing up the browser (firefox) is that the background changes depending on your computers time.So if you visit my site and the time is past 6:00PM, the day background will change to night.It's not an instant change though. You actually have to refresh to get it to change. Anyway, if I let the site/banner sit in my browser as either the active tab or the non-active tab for at least 10 minutes, the whole browser will freeze up. The only way to stop it from freezing up is to close it and restart it.I don't know what I did wrong, but I was hoping you guys could tell me. The file size is not that big (262kb). The images were converted from .jpg to vector, so I can't see why it'd be too graphic intensive. Basically I'd just like to be able to run it at the current resolution and quality, but not have it crash people's browsers.

Desired Result:
Current existing structure: FLEX RIA that communicates with MySQl DB via PHP.
We basically, have a RIA that is part of a software solution we provide to our customers, we want to restrict login sessions to one/username, which we did successfully by setting a value in our MySQL DB...the point of this was to restrict the use of username(s) to one application access point and create the ability for us to charge for additional usernames, if so desired by our customer.
Problem:
Although, we successfully restricted user logins to one session, we ran into a problem when the RIA connection with the DB was inadequately terminated (eg., browser crash, OS crash, flash player error, etc). When these crashes happenned the value that was set in the DB for the user, showing them logged in, would persist and thusly lock them out of our software application. We would have to go into the database and manually reset their logged in status.
My swf is occasionally crashing the browser (or just crashing the plugin as chrome tells me).
How do I diagnose the bug? I am developing for flash player 9 using flex. The bug lies somewhere in my as3 code.
Things I have tried: Turned on log files so I can see trace("...") output. However, my log files, and my swf, are ending at inconsistent termination points. Install the debug version of the flash player Tried different browsers (today I am on vista, and can reproduce the bug on four browsers).
I am hoping there is a [legible] stack trace from the plugin.
I have about 20-30 SWFs embedded on the same page and they all interact with browser's JavaScript. After about 8-12 of these have loaded, Firefox crashes. Will it help combining all these into a single SWF?
View 0 RepliesI am working on a game. All behavior was as expected, and I got no crashes when testing on my machine using FlashDevelop and the Flash Player. But if I open the .swf in Chrome directly or through the Kongregate test area, the game crashes 100% of the time that that function is called.

When I try to build the application using maven it builds successfully. But I need debugging features of Intellij Idea (i'm using 10.0 version). I have been working on DirectShow source filters. The flash10c.ocx routine that is invoked when you click on any "Featured Highlight" on http://www.ustream.tv can abort and takes ANY browser with it under certain conditions.
After days of work, I have finally narrowed this down to the camera enumeration function(s) in flash10c.ocx. Before beginning this quest, I had no idea that the flash player was enumerating cameras on user's machines.
If you right click on a window playing flash video, and select "Settings" then click on the camera symbol, you will see a drop-down window listing all Direct-Show Source Filters that are on your machine. I have several.

In Actionscript 3, I make a call to Javascript using:

If in Javascript, there's an error or a blocking call, the entire browser will freeze. I can't use Firebug in Firefox to debug it because the act of stepping through the callback also crashes the browser. How do I go about debugging this?

I'm on an HP desktop with Windows 7, Firefox 5.0, IE9, and Chrome 12.0.742.122. Either alert call will randomly cause Firefox to freeze...it actually usually happens in bunches, where it'll freeze for a few times continuously (obviously restarting Firefox each time)..and then stop for a few hours and be alright.It has yet to crash IE9 or Chrome, though I haven't tested it as extensively with Chrome. Using the Firefox console doesn't help since Firefox just crashes all together. If anyone could shed some light on that, that'd be great!
I'm developing a mobile AIR application using IntelliJ.
When debugging in Flash Builder there is an option to clear to application data on each (debug) launch of the ADL (see screenshot below) However, I can't find this setting in IntelliJ or some ADL parameter to force a clear on each new debug session. I was wondering if such an option exist in IntelliJ or ADL.
A little background: I'm using the PersistanceManager in the application to store some user settings and I want to be able to start the application without the saved settings from my previous run. Using this setting in Flash Builder does the trick, but I'm having no luck with IntelliJ.
