Flex :: Mxml - UIMovieClip Modify The Width Of A Child DisplayObject
May 11, 2011
I have a collection of UIMovieClip components which reside in an s:HGroup tag. In ActionScript code I am modifying the width of a child clip in one of the UIMovieClips but these changes are not reflected by the s:HGroup.
<s:HGroup id="_buttonGroup">
<uiassets:NavigationTabButtonSWC id="_lobby" />
<uiassets:NavigationTabButtonSWC id="_achievements" />

I have a form that is written in MXML that allows a user to create/add a User.I need to add a form that allows a user to modify SOME but NOT ALL of the fields for this user.The forms are so similar, I don't want to have to create two separate forms, one for Add and one for Modify.For example, in the Add form, the user specifies a user id. In the Modify form, the "user id" field is not editable.I'm wondering how I can initialize the MXML form (i.e. pass in a parameter?) so that it knows whether it is in the Add state or the Modif state.I know I can't do the following but this is what I would like to do (pseudocode):[code]

I've been trying to create a custom mxml component that extends another custom mxml component (i.e.MyMXMLComponent -> BaseMXMLComponent -> Group). I've been reading that trying to add visual children to MyMXMLComponent caused error with Flex 3 but that's no longer the case with Flex 4.
What I want to know is whether this is a supported/fixed/documented feature of Flex 4? or just some undefined behavior in Flex 4 that may get changed with future updates?
if this is supported and documented feature, does anyone have link pointing to adobe document stating it as such?

Is it possible to set a percentage value for the width property of an UIComponent defined in MXML using data binding?
What I try to achieve is something like this (which doesn't work):
<s:Button width="{buttonWidth}%"/>
I know that using percentage for width or height properties in MXML is kind of a hack in the Flex SDK, since they're supposed to accept numerical values only, but since percentWidth and percentHeight aren't available in MXML, I'm pretty stuck =/
I would really like to avoid using code to do such a simple thing, in order to keep my code as clear and readable as posible.

I have inherited a FLEX 4 project that invokes web services to display data to the end user.
My default package has one .MXML file, that has the component references to the Login screen (another .MXML file) and the Main screen (yes, another .MXML file).
The login process works fine. I have 3 tabs, with a 4th tab I am adding now.
The tabs are created using elements within a TabNavigator. I have added a 4th VBOX, like so:
<mx:VBox label="Data Analysis" width="100%" height="100%">
<componenets:DeviceLineChart />
</mx:VBox>

How can I add an MXML component as a child of the main application using ActionScript. It's not possible to instatiate it, is it? Assuming that behind every mxml file stands an actionscrpt3 class, I tried to import it but id didn't show up.

Here is an example of a custom component. It is just a box with a title label and a close image (X):
[Code]...
When using the component in an MXML document, I would like to have the "(HEADING TEXT)" replaced with a parameter (should be easy) as well as the "(INSTANCE MXML)" with several labels, text inputs, check boxes, etc. (maybe harder). I have found this script-based method, but I would like a cleaner compile-time solution if one exists.

I'm working on a simple task/calendar tool where tasks can be added dynamically to a canvas. Here is the main application as defined in Main.mxml, which is essentially just a Canvas and a button for adding a task:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml">
<mx:Canvas id="MainCanvas" borderStyle="solid" width="300" height="300">
[Code].....
The problem is that when I add a Task instance to the Canvas, the children (the button and label) don't appear. I tried setting creationPolicy="all" on both the Canvas and the BorderContainer, but it still didn't work. I've read a bunch of posts about people having issues accessing members of their class before the class is fully loading, but all I want to do is SEE that Label and Button show up inside the BorderContainer.

I frequently find myself wanting more granular control of the width/height properties. Consider either of the following cases:
- The DisplayObject is clipped with DisplayObject.mask, but Flash reports unmasked width.
- An image is displayed with a transform cage drawn over it. The width of the cage shouldn't be calculated when determining the DisplayObject's width.
The naive way to solve this problem is to override the width getter of the DisplayObject in question. The problem is that the core implementation of DisplayObject.width is written in native code. If after overriding the width getter, I call overridenObject.width, I get what I want; however, if I call overriddenObject.parent.width, DisplayObject.width ignores my override and calculates the dimensions based on its own internal display list representation.
Does anyone know of a technique to limit which children are considered when calculating width without having to override every parent's width getter? I've tried overriding width, getRect, getBounds, and scrollRect, but none of them seem to be referenced by DisplayObject.width's native implementation.

I'm basically trying to refresh a jpg image every second from within my flash project. The code so far:
Code:
//This function is called from the loader's event listener.
//It moves the loaded image into the appropriate container for display
function imgLoaded(event:Event):void
[Code].....
And then it will load the picture, then it will throw the error, then load, then throw, etc...
What do I need to do to avoid this error?

I am working on a custom Flex 4 component which is an aggregation of two existing flex components. I would like to be able to specify my own custom properties for the component as well as access the existing public subcomponent properties via MXML. For instance I might want to adjust the font color or style for the label and text input. toy component which aggregates both a label and a text input:

<s:Group xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"

I encapsulate my addChild so that I can have an array of all the objects that are on stage for later garbage collection. this is how I do so [code]each gameObject has a property called garbage that is a boolean that is set when ready to be removed. When I set it to tree, this is what happens.ArgumentError: Error #2025: The supplied DisplayObject must be a child of the caller.
