Javascript :: Open Browser Window Using ExternalInterface Then Write HTML In It
Nov 6, 2010I can open a new window using window.open() in ExternalInterface.call() but then I want to be able to write contents to the new window. Since, I cannot get the reference of the window back from window.open() call, I am not able to do anything to the window once it is opened.
I do not have any control over the HTML in which my swf is displayed.
Has anyone been in this situation before?
Update: After a few hours of trial and error I found you can get out of this situation by storing your window reference globally and referring to the same global reference whenever you need to access the new window.

Sep 21, 2006Looking for getURL syntax /parameters that will let me open/display a specific page of a PDF in a new browser window.
Tried this, but it's not working:
pdf_btn.onRelease = function() {
getURL("pdfs/sample_file.pdf#page=605", "_blank")
}
The pdf file opens in a browser window, but not to page 605. It opens to page 1 of the pdf.

I know a Flash object can provide a javascript API to interact with it, what I dont know is can Flash send an email directly without the need to talk to the webserver to do so? If thats possible would it not be possible to write a flash object that did nothing but provide an API to send emails? Has such a thing been created that is out there for others to use?
I'm looking to create a email form on a web page but the site is static (no server scripting). In my situation server scripting is not possible as there is no server, the site is 100% client side on a CD/DVD/USB Stick.

Oct 11, 2011I have a an unobtrusive flash video looping in the background of a website, it is not essential to navigation - it is purely cosmetic.The flash video loops every 30 seconds.As this video is on all pages, it jumps back to the start when a new page is loaded.Is there an actionscript / javascript way to get it to remember the position it got to on the old page so it can start there on the new page?I do know that this can be accomplished by loading the flash movie in a frame as well as by having the subsequent pages load the contents in AJAX but I was hoping not to go down this route.I have seen other people ask the question and allude to the solution but they only posted that they got it to work without saying how.

But one last thing that I have issue with is that there is an AS2 script for a button, where you can change the page that you want to be updated. But every time that I click that button, it opens the new page. but then if I use the same button in the new page, and click on it, another page will open and that current page will get closed.

Open Flash Using Javascript?
Aug 26, 2009 I just found out that many members here are webmasters already. I an creating a flash design to be embed in an html.
My flash file have 8 frames with stop(); on each frame. Then on the html, I have this javascript code:

But when I click it, it operates as a Next frame button. So now, I made 8 buttons:
<input type="button" onclick="PlayFlashMovie()" value="1">
up to value=8. Button 1 is ok since it will play Frame1 of flash file but how about the second up to the eight?
What should I add to the javascript so when I click button 2, it will play my flash in frame 2? when I click button 3, it will play my flash in frame 3? And so on..

Dec 16, 2010Im here to ask a probably dumb question again. This is related to my previous questions. I current found a way for flash/flex to send a video file(in byteArray) to php. Where php receives and writes it in the local sytem then sends it to the youtube server automatically trhu a script.This is all backend though I have no way to check if the video file was uploaded succesfully in youtube than to check it manually in youtube.
So im thinking of a new php script where it will receive and write the video file from flash. Then opening a browser window where it will automatically upload the video and at the same time track it thru the browser of its status using debug prints perhaps.
Im barely still learning php. I tried to do some research on this but found no success.

Feb 15, 2011I'm running an online game site, and a few websites are really bad about embedding some of my games and stealing bandwidth.
To combat this, I replaced the original files with super-simple .swf files that redirected back to my own websites -- thus stealing back the traffic that they were stealing from me.
The problem came later when something changed with the new Flash player, and new windows no longer opened. For the life of me, I can't figure out how to get new windows to open. I've tried a few different approaches, but nothing appears to work.
So what I'm wondering is, can this even be done anymore -- where I can switch out a .swf that's being leeched with one that opens a window to my own site?

Basically, this is a button that (when clicked) is supposed to allow the user to download an MP3 file. It works as planned except that when the button is clicked, the MP3 just opens up in the browser or in Windows Media Player or whatever default "playing" application the user has. I want it to work in the same way as when you right-click a link and choose "Save Link As..." so that when they click it they actually will save the MP3 file itself to their computer (so, the "Save" dialog box will pop up when they click the link), instead of the file just opening/playing.
