I have a page which displays these items, when i select the document One i need the link associated to be clicked. How can i achieve this programatically.

The project will have a web based interface but the actual presentation will be in flash. So the premise is you create a presentation, flash then reads the XML data, creates a menu and presents the other XML data in a linear fashion and my first question is whether the XML is in the correct format. I am not the one programming the XML side of things we have a .NET programmer doing that and he has not worked with Flash too much and this is also something new for me as well.

View 1 RepliesI am having trouble parsing some xml that has a few attribute names with : characters in them. The compiler is not throwing any errors and when I trace my complete xml object out it is all there, however when I try to trace out any element or node it keeps comming up undefined. I removed the attribute names with : characters in them and everything works fine. I cant seem to target the attributes either to delete them.
View 3 RepliesI am changing the flashvars variables v1=value&v2=value ect then after the flash movie runs I am changing the variables externally by javascript, so far so good.when flash first loads it reads the vars correctly.when I try to read them ( after the change ) it keeps reading the old values.[code]everything works except I cannot seem to read the changed FlashVars.

I have a Flex TileList with an itemRenderer made by me. The list loads the content perfectly and renders it. Renderer is a simple canvas element with a checkbox and another canvas with some labels with data. I implemented a method that, on TileList
itemClick="clickedItemHandler(event)",
Changes the state of the checkbox (if checked -> uncheck, and vice versa).
The method works if I click on any place of the item, EXCEPT the checkbox. When I click the checkbox, it doesn't change state. Maybe I was changing the state of the checkbox, and the event changing it back, but I debugged it and it doesn't look like so..

So that when a user clicks anywhere on one of the tree's Branches. the branch expands.My problem is that i don't know how i can get the listener function to fire.What i would like to do is create the tree completely in as3. (no mxml). Normaly i set the itemClick on tree in the mxml. but i want to do this in as3. My component has alot more functions in it but i have deleted them so that it becomes easier to read. I Thought if i override the createChilderen function and add the eventlistener in there, that i would work. But no luck.

I have a flex tree that worked perfectly fine when we set the defaultLeafIcon={null} and the folderClosedIcon and folderOpenIcon to {null}. We decided to put the icons back in and took out the nulls. Now they show up fine, but if you click on the icon instead of the label or the rest of the row, it seems to change the selected item, shows the highlight around the new item, but doesn't dispatch the ItemClick event. This makes it really hard to know that the tree's selected item has changed!
The weird part is that once you have clicked on the icon once and it looked like the selectedItem changed (or at least it applied that style), if you click the same icon again, it will actually fire the itemClick event. if you click any other icon, it does the same thing again, switching the selectedItem and styling that row, but not firing the itemClick event.

Except, that I would like to add a Custom tag, like "randNum" so that the tag user could input some number, or rather, a flash movie could generate a tag with a number already put in...Basically, heres a really basic version of the idea.There is a Flash Movie.In the movie, you can input text into a textfield.Upon finishing your message, you click a button "save".
The flash movie then:
1. Comes up with a random number unique to the message.
2. Assigns that number to a variable... "randNum".
3. Saves message as a xml file to the server as "filename" + randNum.
4. Outputs into a textfield a generated HTML tag that a user can post on myspace and such so that it will load in the flash movie.
Except... in the tag, there will be a custom attribute. If the random number variable "randNum" was 00112233, the custom attribute will be 00112233.
EX:
<embed src = "somefile.swf" width = "550" height = "400" randNum = "00112233">
So when the movie opens, it retrieves that randNum from the tag and can use it inside flash. How can this be done? Sorry this post was so long, but I wanted everyone to understand the concept.

i made a video player with the xml playlist , it's a video channel indeed, it's embed swf in html. but my boss would like me to put a link on the web, when user click the link, it would directly play the specific video inside the video channel. is it possible to do it without server side script but javascript?
View 1 RepliesI am new to Flash. I bought a template online a couple weeks ago, and for the most part have made all the changes to personalize the page. The page is for wedding videography, and came with a Videos section. However, I do not like the template video player, and would like to have the Videos link on the menu bar go straight to my youtube channel rather than to the flash player. Primarily all changes to the template have been made in a text.txt file, rather than the flash file itself. My question is, how could I change the link on the main page to route to my youtube channel? Here's what it looks like in the text file:

I have a datagrid with different types of columns, like I have checkboxes, combo boxes and text Inputs as the column types. Now I want one of the column type to a link, with the label "view". I didn't know how to bring a link in the datagrid. So used the Text control to display the "View" label. Now If I click this item, "View" in the datagrid, I want the Pop up function, i.e.,defectCommentsPopUp() to be called.
i have created a flash animation for my homepage, i want to make part of that flash animation a "enter" button so when clicked would go to my page 2 on my website.

I have created a small application which takes it's information from an xml file and displayes it in a news ticker which is a flash Flash AS2 application. tell me the correct way to format the link tag in the xml if there is a standard when wanting to state a target for the link? The xml file currently looks like:

So what I want to do is to be able to open the link in a taget=_blank window however adding that to the end of the url does not currently work.I have added a comma and also tried using a space, space and encompassing in quotes but none are working.
i created my subMenu buttons fine, however i only know how to link them to a picture/url address, my goal is to have the user click the subMenu button and open the image or page right below the menu bar in the "stage" area of flash.
