ActionScript 2.0 :: Accessing Variables - If-statement Has Been Activated, _global.var1 Is Still 0 When I Trace It In Frame2?

May 25, 2004

I am making a jigzaw and when all the pieces are put in the right place, another movie clip will be played.All pieces are buttons placed in different movieclips. The movieclips are then placed in scene 1.

In frame 1, I've written
_global.var1=0;

In frame 2, I've put movieclip1, and in movieclip1 I've placed button1, with the following actionscript:

on (press) {
startDrag ("_root.movieclip1");
}[code]..........

However, when the piece is in the right place, and the if-statement has been activated, _global.var1 is still 0 when I trace it in frame2.

Regex :: Use The String.match Method To Find Multiple Occurrences Of The Same Word In A String?

May 25, 2010

In Actionscript and Adobe Flex, I'm using a pattern and regexp (with the global flag) with the string.match method and it works how I'd like except when the match returns multiple occurrences of the same word in the text. In that case, all the matches for that word point only to the index for the first occurrence of that word. For example, if the text is "cat dog cat cat cow" and the pattern is a search for cat*, the match method returns an array of three occurrences of "cat", however, they all point to only the index of the first occurrence of cat when i use indexOf on a loop through the array. I'm assuming this is just how the string.match method is. I want to find the specific indices of every occurrence of a match, even if it is of a word that was already previously matched.

how the string.match method is and if so

Actionscript 3 :: Extracting Links And Twitter Replies From A String?

Sep 16, 2010

I am getting a string from Twitter into my Actionscript which is a unformatted string. I want to be able to extract any links and or any @replies from the string, then display it in htmlText.

So far I have this

var txt:String = "This is just some text http://www.thisisawebsite.com and some more text via @sumTwitter";
var twitterText:String = txt.slice(txt.indexOf("@"),txt.indexOf("

[Code].....

This is fine for extracting links, which finish with a space. But what if, like the @sumTwitter, it finishes at the end of the string. And also what if there are multiple links or @'s, is the best way to put it in a while loop?

ActionScript 3.0 :: RegExp Connundrum - Extracting Numbers From An Alpha-numeric String?

Apr 22, 2009

I I have an alpha-numeric string as a variable. I would like to extract (from left to right) all of the numbers from the string and then push them into an array. Below, is what I have going so far, but it stops after the first number it meets. I was under the impression that the RegExp.exec runs through the entire string before stopping.

var testMenu:RegExp = /d/;
var whichTarget:String = me.target.name[code]..........

when I trace my array, it is just filled with the first number that is encountered. So, in the two examples above the array beomes [1] (when the string that is executed is "menu1sub2hypo3" and then [3] when the string that is executed is "menu3sub4hypo8". It craps out after the first number is reached.What I really want is that the array gets filled with [1, 2, 3] in the first example and [3, 4, 8] in the second example. How in Helsinki would I do that? Does the exec function need to be looped in any way?

Not so important right now but thinking a little down the line: what regular expression would I need to find "25" instead of just "2" if I run this RegExp.exec on a string that may look like this "menu25sub3hypo6"?

ActionScript 3.0 :: String.split() Using Regex Not Working

May 12, 2011

I rarely use regular expressions and still have a hard time reading/writing them sometimes (getting better, though), but I came across a situation where I needed to split up sentences in a text file and store each sentence as a separate item in an array.

To do this, I have tried to use the split() function by passing it a regex to detect ends of sentences... for most cases, anyway, which includes ., !, or ?, optionally followed by " or )

Here's what I've created:

Code:
sentencesArray = textOriginal_txta.text.split(/(?<=(w[.!?]"?)?))s(?=((?"?[A-Z]))/);

(What this code does is split on condition of a blank space but only where it finds a preceding/prefix that includes end punctuation, plus a lookahead/suffix that contains the beginning of a sentence, such as a capital letter)

The problem is that this doesn't seem to work. It works like a charm when I test it in Expresso free regex writing and testing software), but then when I try to send it to the split, it doesn't split the items. Do I need to do escapes for special characters when sending regex input to a split?
