Is there a debugging tool for Flex that functions like Silverlight spy or FireBug?
View 2 RepliesIn Flash user can give permission to localhost and even local html file to access remote webservice.I fail to see the same thing for Silverlight which is a nightmare for testing on local pc.
View 1 Repliesi need a webpage (host on my website) that can play the following mp4 file either via silverlight 4 or flash[URL]..i tried various solution like flowplayer and silverlight but none of them work with the URL above. I can play the file fine using Windows media player or VLC.
For silverlight, i always get AG_E_NETWORK_ERROR exception within MediaFailed event. For flash, via flowplayer, IE page is just blank
Can someone tell me what am i missing? i am very frustrated as I have finished encoding, upload, cataloging my videos and now I am stuck at the last step.
I found Vectorlight which is quite good, but are there any tutorials or books about doing cool effects with silverlight. I'm after for resources focused more for a designing and presentation. Mostly the books about Silverlight is focused on doing boring business applications like making grids and forms.

View 1 RepliesI am looking for a 3D object viewer for my website.
Requirements:
Files: .stl,.wrl, *.3ds *.vrml, *.obj, *.ply, *.skp
display: models in color and non color
Unit of Measure: Meters, Centimeter, Millimeters, Inch
Volume: 3D object viewer has to calculate the orginal size of the model
Rotation&zoom: user can rotate/zoom with mouse and rotate/zoom by clicking buttons
Browser: IE& Firefox
how to do this sort of navigation system? Just like the one used here:
[URL]
Click on "Jewels to love madly" and click Rings. A vertical bar comes up that slides up and down with image links.
That's the effect I want to achieve but I'd like it to be horizontal, like the one here:

except that one doesn't use images.
I have build a gallery but its very simple. It takes images from xml file. I have attached all files in zip. First when I press next button it goes to next image but with no effect. It just displays next image. I want to incorporate a sliding effect when the image is changed to another. And second I want to use autoplay feature. As soon as swf starts the images came one by one with difference of few seconds.
Attachments: slideshow.zip (752.0 K)
Is it possible to construct an vertical sliding thumbnails of images. The example is shown at following path: [URL]
View 1 RepliesHow I could make a sliding/scrolling menu of images(sideways) with links and those images should dynamically loads from lets say a directory or something like that and can easily control/change image and url in a simple external text file( heres a sample of what it should look like: [URL] the bottom part. How to achieve the sliding menu image that loads dynamically.
View 2 RepliesI'm trying to make a gallery where the user can move the cursor to the left and right to have the images slide in that direction. I also want to have the image that's in focus snap to the screen after about 2-3 seconds of the cursor staying around the center.
View 1 RepliesI have a flash movie with about 350 frames, each frame is a mixture of text and between 1 and 10 images, later on I might add some download file links, website links and videos to some of the frames. I have a menu at the top of the movie which lets you flick between each frame, so by clicking the menu button "image 20" you are taken to frame 20, click menu button "image 135" and you are taken to frame 135 and so on, very simple. I also have 2 buttons at the bottom of my movie, these buttons let you go backwards and forwards through the frames. If you are on frame 50 and click "forward" button, then you go to frame 51, click the "back" button on frame 50 and you would go to frame 49.
At the moment I simply use
Actionscript Code:
on(release) {
gotoAndPlay(4);}
Which of course would take you to frame 4.
My movie has nothing else, that's it, very simply and very little action-scripting on each button. At the moment my movie just flicks between each frame which doesn't always look very nice, so I want to change it so that the frames do a slide effect. So if you are on frame 15 and click the "forward" button, it would slide from frame 15 to frame 16, so as frame 15 slides to the left hand side, frame 16 would slide in from the right hand side. Or, if you were on frame 21 and clicked the top menu button "image 320", then frame 21 would slide to the left hand side and frame 320 would slide in from the right hand side.
And it would do the slide animation seamlessly and smoothly, I saw some examples online which didn't look very smooth when doing a slide, so it would be good if I could make it as smooth as possible during animation. I have search around online and the only examples I can find are image galleries, which seems to have action-scripting far beyond my capabilities at the moment, or they work in a way that is not any good for what I want to do. I use action-scripting 2, but I could change this to action-scripting 3, I am also using CS4.
In creating a RIA, what are the advantages and disadvantages of each approach?
View 1 RepliesI'm trying to make a guitar practice website, and a critical functionality is to loop over very short mp3 files (a few seconds long), with absolutely zero gap in between. For example, it could a 4-measures-long chord progression, and I want to allow the user to loop over it seamlessly.
I tried using the HTML5 <audio> tag with the loop attribute. Google Chrome gives a small gap between the loops, but big enough to be totally unacceptable for my purpose. I haven't tested the other browsers, but I believe it won't work.A possible workaround is to use ffmpeg to stream repetitions the same audio as an mp3. However, this costs a lot of bandwidth.
For myself I use Audacity to loop without gaps, but unfortunately Audacity doesn't have a web version.So, do you have any ideas how I may loop over an mp3 in a browser with zero gap? I prefer non-Flash solutions, but if nothing else works I'll use Flash.
I do have a set of images (lets say 1,2,3,4 and 5) in an html page. what I want is once the html page is reloaded, the order of the sliding should change randomly (from 1,2,3,4 and 5) to (4,5,3,4,5...)for example.
View 7 RepliesI'm creating a Flash animation using the bone tool to animate arms and legs. I created my characters in Illustrator and copy/paste the individual elements (such as the arms/legs/body etc) into Flash, then convert them to symbols. From there, I use Modify>Break Apart to get the symbol into its most primitive state and the use the bone tool to create joints. I did a small bit of animation, and now whenever I make any modifications (like adding more library items or more poses) whenever I save then re-open the file, the bones are still there, but the image is gone. So right now I have what is supposed to be a girl jumping up and down, but her arms and legs have disappeared so she just looks like a floating body. I've re-created this file multiple times, and this continues to happen, but at different points during the animation so I cannot pinpoint one certain thing that could be causing this.
View 6 Replieshow to load an external image with fileReference and loader into a movieclip such that it can be transformed with senocular's transform tool.Here's what I have so far: (It places the image down but I cannot transform it)
ActionScript Code:
var fileRef:FileReference = new FileReference();
MovieClip(root).loadBtn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, openClick);[code].....
I'm using the Senocular Transform Tool to allow the user to scale an image that is loaded in. The demos work fine with sprites that are already on the stage.My setup is PureMVC and the images are loaded in, then I turn the loader content into a Bitmap and put that into a Sprite.I mimmicked the source files and added the TransformTool onto the stage level then I make the target the Sprite with the image inside.This all works and when I click on the image the TransformTool pops up and is the right size and shape. Unfortunately as soon as I try to scale or move it using the tool the image skews and scale in huge increments and goes off into the wrong directions.
I tried adding the Bitmap to the Sprite with the registration in the middle. I tried using a transform matrix to move the registration point to the center.
As it is said here: [URL] "If you do a Google search today for "MVVM and Flex", the first post is by somebody who claims that MVVM is not a good fit for Flex. I couldn't disagree more. Out of the box, the Flex framework makes it much easier to implement a Presentation Model than similar MVVM implementations in Silverlight. That is not to say that there aren't good third-party libraries that make it easier in Silverlight, but without any help, it is easier to do in Flex." So MVVM as LOGICAL CONCEPT can be implemented in both but the way it is implemented in Silverlight requires more Plumbing than Flex.
What prevents Silverlight MVVM to be implemented like Flex ? Doesn't Silverlight have same capability in event system to do the same? If yes why does Silverlight do things more complicated what's the advantages then ? Is it about using Class Interfaces which are more strongly typed? What are the disadvantages also ? For example as for implementing MULTIPLE VIEWS for 1 View-Model does Flex implementation make it also more obvious?
I found that .fla files do not save in Flash CS4 when the Deco tool or Spray Brush tool is selected. Is this a bug? Or is there a workaround to this issue.

I am a student of computer science and am interested in learning development of RIAs. So which among silverlight and flex is more suitable for me and y?
