Video - SWF Reading/rendering (outside Of Flash Player)?
Dec 9, 2009
I would like to use SWF files as source video data within a tool chain I am developing. The problem is, I can't seem to find a consistent way to convert them, and I'm concerned about the loss of quality that the conversion will introduce.
I actually even have Flash CS3, but the export process to anything other than swf is flaky at best. It does different things depending on what video format you export to, and doesn't seem to be consistent across Flash (fla) files.
The options I have come up with are:
1) integrate someone else's source code to parse/play back the swf files, and capture the output directly that way.
2) create some kind of frankenstein work flow using Air or Flex to play the swf and export each frame to an image format, and then read those into the application where I want the data.
Integrating someone else's code seems pretty gross to me. The code available that I can find is at least 2 Flash versions old, so I'd have to do a fair amount of work for this. And when Adobe releases the next version of Flash, I'll have to add support for the new features in myself anyways. Were I to write a player myself from scratch, using the SWF specifications Adobe has published (assuming everything is actually documented enough), I run into the same issue: continued maintenance on a regular basis. And for most likely undocumented (or slowly documented) features.
Creating a frankenstein work flow using Air/Flex seems like a smarter approach, but will be really cumbersome and most likely slow.
Has Adobe released source code for their player somewhere, or better yet, a (C++) library that I could use?

We are building a flash based product where we need to create icons for various modules. we are having challenges in look and feel of the icons- what looks really good on Adobe Illustrator/ Photoshop looks jagged on flashPlayer. A challenge we have is that the overall screen aspect ratio and hence aspect for the icons which are relatively sized can change
we were told in discussions with some adobe folks that
a) we need to build icons which are square, and in multiples of 32 pixels.
b) use a png format
As per them, this way the pixelation is reduced and diagonal lines won't appear jagged- we still have an issue on rendering in flash player

From here I read that the flash player software renderer only draws every pixel once, the page says something like this "Using the software renderer, each pixel is drawn only once, so there is no penalty no matter how many graphical elements are covering each other at that pixel location. " I was wondering what are the implications of this, does this mean that flash player has some sort or occlusion testing inbuilt yes it may not be culling the occluded triangles but it does not seem to render it.
How later on, I came across this page which talks about culling. If I decide to render objects in a 3D world do I have to implement my own culling code or will the flash player software renderer. do it for me

i have found that:
1. There has a subtle difference between a static text field in flash authoring tool which has been set to use the device font when it's got focus(state that user can type character in) and lose focus;
2. There also has a subtle difference between when it is being rendered in flash player and in flash authoring tool.(Note that the key factor here is setting the text field to use device font.)

I'm trying to create a video background for a game using the FLVPlayback component. I need to smoothly trasisition between multiple videos so I make a FLVPlayer for each one so that I can just tween the alpha when I need to show it. When I start the game I load everything and store the Playback components in a Vector, I think add them to the stage like this
for(var i:int = m_Videos.length-1; i > 0; --i)
{
addChildAt(m_Videos[i], 0);
}
Once the game is loaded though the first video dosnt render at all, so I have a see thoough background. But once I transition to a video that is on top of it, the top video renders.

With the Flash Player that comes with CS3 and on my PC XP Pro laptop.I want the player controls to appear at the _bottom_ of the video not on top of the video and not under (behind) the video.
- my video is 640 x 480
- so I modified the "properties" tab at the bottom of the screen to 640x480... (it was 550x400)
- but that just makes everything larger when I click File > Publish
- and then look at the video in Internet Explorer... the Player Controls are still _On Top_ of the video.
I guess I need to learn how to
- Make the stage bigger
- Position the Player controls below the actual video

We have developed flash video player which needs to playe large videos (at least 500 MB videos).We have some issues in the player right now.I am playing a 100 MB + video, it start playing and say it is buffering upto 50% of that video. Then I am closing that page. If I take that video again, it starts downloading from beginning. It never resume downloading from where it buffered previous time. But for small video files, this is looking ok. Is there any size limit a video player can buffer?Is there any better way to play large videos (more than 500 MB). Any other protocol or any other settings in flash player?

We have an ordinary video player built for Adobe Flash Player that streams a video file and plays it on a browser.However some of the video files aren't clear enough that we need additional video filters like sharpness filter while the others may require contrast filter or hue and tint filter due to its color balance.
The question is, is there any feature that are provided by Flash Player's core video component to apply those kind of filters on the fly at client-side?

I've got a very annoying problem and I've not got a clue why it is happening. I've created my own FLV player in actionscript 3.0 and I want to create a Progress Bar for my player. I've done all the code for it but it doesn't work properly as the bytesTotal number is 4294967295 instead of the actual size of the FLV until the bytesLoaded gets to the size of the FLV and then bytesTotal suddenly equals the FLV size. [code]As you can see once my 17MB FLV file has loaded the bytesTotal suddenly changes from 4096MB to the actual 17MB size.So how comes the bytesTotal is not picking up the size of the FLV?

1) If you have various instances of the player on the same page, would I be correct to assume that there is nothing in place to make sure that only one instance is playing at the same time? if so is there a way round this?
2) How would you go about reading from a dynamically created playlist? say for example for use in a record shop where each record has 2-10 tracks but records are being pulled from database.
Or would it be best to pull playlist directly from the database?

I want to play FLV video in a flash video player, and at the end of the buffering I want to access the data (video data, or buffered file) so I can manipulate it. For exemple in a ByteArray format so I can save it to local disk... With the NetStream and NetConnection I can play the video without problem, but I can't find a way to access the data. using the URLStream, I can download the video file [URL], and I can access the data I want but I can't play it?
Is there a way to play the URLStream, or to get data from the NetStream?
Or may be, I can access the cache of the browser to get the bufferd data played by NetStream?

in this condition in supported browser Video will work without Flash player and javascript and in non-supported browser will work with js support.

I need a flash video player for our public site where users will share videos.The video usage model is similar to youtube as far as video part is concerned.Users will upload and share videos. Users will browse and play all shared videos as well.The videos will be streamed from the server and our app is a .NET/C#/JQuery application.We have 3 options:
1) Either buy a commercial flash player
2) Customize a open source player or use free player and customize its gui
3) Develop our own (time consuming and last resort)
I am required to find a flash video player with these requirements:
Player should work in all major browsers (IE, FF, Chrome, Safari)
Player should have way to inject Advertisement clips when playing a video file
Light weight and easy to integrate
Must support streaming and scale
Plus all other basic features of a flash video player.

Here is where I am at this juncture... I have a requirement wherein I need to render an HTML text containing an '' tag which embeds a video, for example:-
[Code]....
Now I need to render this video into my Flex Web Application. One way to do it, as I see, is somehow extract the 'data' attribute and put it as a 'source' for spark VideoPlayer. Is there any better way to do this? Also note that, I require to render all video formats (avi, mov, wmv etc.) and not just flv or f4v.
