ActionScript 1/2 :: Get A Collision Between An Array Of Movieclips?

I am trying to get a collision between an array of movieclips but it isnt doing well =S.Here is where I am now:

This code works, but it is only colliding with one object. I have made an Array called: _root.enemyArray.I have tried to make an for statment inside the current one without sucess.

im creating a circle dynamically with each click on stage, with the drawCircle function, now, that circle is a shape, not a movieClip, im arranging this circles inside of an array, and i want to check if they collide, so that second circle dont appear if its occupying the same space as the last one, or at least trace if they are colliding so i can do something about it....
i've made tests with movieClips and no problem, the mc1.hitTestObject(mc) works great but not so great with raw shapes, it just ignores collisions

I am in the process of building a project in which several MovieClips "swim" around semi-randomly, and another MovieClip that appears and expands over the mouse on click alters the frequency of the turns. Do do so, I simply need to change the value of a single variable on the first MovieClip's timeline when the two collide. I am using hitTestObject, but I keep running into errors. The expanding MovieClip does not have an instance name, because it only appears when the mouse is clicked, and quickly disappears.
I am receiving the error 1067: Implicit coercion of a value of type Class to an unrelated type flash.display.DisplayObject My code causing my first MovieClip to "swim" is on that MC's timeline, while the rest of the code is on the main timeline.

I'm starting to understand ActionScript and getting better with it. However, I'm building a platform game with an unlimited length. What would be the best way to create the "block" the player is jumping on?
Of course collision detection for these movieclips is needed (nicest would be to do it without a giant loop through an array, etc. on every frame). There's probably something like 5 block on the screen at the same time.

is there a way to do collision detection amongst identical movieClips? The movieclips have all been added to the stage from one symbol in the library using AddChild().I've attempted to create 2 different arrays for them and push them into each array as they are added to the stage so that there was a means of comparing them. When I perform the collision detection, Flash thinks that the movieClips are in constant collision with each other!I used trace ("bang") to test the collision, and the output window starts tracing "bang" infinitely and doesn't stop, and none of the movieClips are touching each other.

I was wondering how to have collision detection between two differente duplicated movie clips. For example, a duplicated bullet hits a duplicated bird, how do I make it so that it detects collision when the duplicated bullet(bullet+x) hits the duplicated bird(bird+x)?

I have a movieclip (myMC) that I create several instances of.I dont duplicate the movieclips, but just copy and rename them like "myMC_i", where "i" is a unique number.Can I somehow check if one copy of myMC (for instance "myMC_2") collides with another copy (for instance "myMC_5"), always ignoring collisions with other types of movieclips on the stage?Thats the problem I cant solve. I can either check for a collision with ANY other movieclip, or check for a collision with a single SPECIFIED movieclip (by checking for its name). But I dont know how to check for a collision with a group of movieclips that has the first part of their names in common. I am building a tile based game, in which the player can digg away at all the tiles.The problem im having is that my collision detection code for the tiles only will detect a collision with the first tile placed, or any tile required i explicitly code its number in.
In all other examples, tutorials and code, this should work, and yet it does not on mine.heres the specific code , the array the cildren are stored in is called dirt, as they are dirt tiles.

this brings me onto another problem i am having, which is that now that the collision code is inside a for statement, the above code doesnt work correctly. normally the lastx and lasty should be recorded , and if there is a collsion, the player is shifted back to the last position there wasnt a collision.for some reason now, even though it should be looping faster and detecting the lasx and lasty even faster, it isnt, and although a collision is detected (only with child 0).

If you have a group of movie clips stored in an array and the movie cliops are placed on the stage randomly, and use your arrow keys to move a box on top of one of the movie clips - how can you "tell" Flash which movie clip you clicked on?
Right now I've got a for loop going which loops through the array that has stored the movie clip instances, presumably the hitTestObject would eventually get a hit...But this doesn't work, especially inside an event handler where when I press the right arrow on my keyboard.

I have an array of points that I will use to generate a closed polygonal fence on the outside of a game stage (2D). I wish to have collision detection between this fence and a bouncing ball-like object on the inside. Additionally, I would like to be able to arbitrarily add/remove/redraw the fence in realtime and have the collision detection still operate realistically. I have considered drawing a Sprite/Shape from the points and doing a HitTest at each frame to check whether to bounce or not. My question: is this the best/correct way to accomplish this goal? Consider something like JezzBall with diagonal lines of any angle a simulation of what I'm trying to do.

I am creating a game where I have two separate arrays of objects that I need hitTested with each other. I found an old tutorial in AS2 that I modified to come up with this code:

This code executes like I believe it should, but along with removing the two objects, and splicing them from their arrays, I get this error

TypeError: Error #1010: A term is undefined and has no properties.on the line hitTestObject line. I have had similar problems in other areas of my project, but this time no matter what I try using trace statements I cannot fathom quite what the problem is.

a little while ago I saw something on this website:[URL]...I decided I wanted to recreate something like it.
They're using javascript, I'm using ActionScript, anyway.I'm trying to create collision detection for an array of movieclips inside a for loop. Right now I have it that upon holding down the mouse, the same movie clip will fall onto a ground object (and bounce up occasionally,) I'm trying to make it to so each ball could stand on top of each other. I've used collision detection before for separate objects, but never for instances of the same object inside a for loop.

[I apologise if this isn't really an in depth question, but I wanted to solve this once and for all]I was trying to get look into quadtrees, but already ran into trouble getting collision detection without any optimization working properly. Did a search and found a pretty neat example:Only some collisions are detected between particular objects. When the objects are not moving it seems to work alot better for some reason. really can't figure out whats the problem, the code is essentially the same as the sample. I received help on this site on this info-graphic im doing and the solution was to use an "array" which im not familiar with at all. the person that helped me added the following code that worked:

I'm having problems making a loop of different movieClips. I've been able to find info about duplicating the same movieClip but I can't seem to get it to apply to this. This is what I am working with: I have 13 different movieClips of an animated character. They are titled montyDog_mc, montyBear_mc, montyCat_mc, etc. I also have a next and a previous button. What I need to happen is for the movieClip animations to cycle through, one at a time, each time the user clicks the next or previous button. I think I should be creating an array of some sort but I am very confused about how I list the movie clips in an array and apply it to the button.
This is what I have:

Just started to make the switch from AS2 to AS3 and am having a few problems, most of which I've managed to fix but this one has got me stumped.
I'm trying to create some buttons dynamically that are spaced out evenly.The clip is in the library and exports as NavButton. I've created an array with all the button clips inside it. This is called navButtonArray and when traced shows the NavButton clips. My problem is when I try and add them to stage. I can't tell if it's only adding 1, or just placing them in the same place, or if it's continually replacing the previous navButton.[code]...

I'm creating multiple movieclips, containing a TextField and an image as a background. In order to keep track of them I'm storing them in an array. The problem is that I can't add the movieclip to the screen >.< What I'm doing is
