You have some examples of how works custom events in as2? If I have 2 classes that extends movie clip, how can I make them to comunicate with custom event.?
I'm using a electronic device to dispatch events within AS3.

Think of these events as a KeyboardEvent.My point is to dispatch an Event (like a Key that is being pressed) so I can listen to this event on EVERY Class I need to.I'm not sure how to instantiate or listen to these events correctly =/
I mean: I want to be able to listen to the key that is been pressed as if that was a global event every Class can receive...
long explanation: --> I'm doing something like this:
1) created a (main) Class that extends a Sprite.
2) created a class (KeyboardInput) that extends the main class.
3) created a class (KeyMap) that extends EventDispatcher.
4) created a class (HomeScreen) that extends a Sprite.
My FLA file is associated to the KeyboardInput Class.This Class creates a listener for the KEY_DOWN KeyboardEvent and instantiate the KeyMap Class that dispatches a CustomEvent:

I am learning how to do a custom event in AS3. I can do an event in a class but I dont know how to detect events in other classes. I want to detect in main.as an event reached in class player. E.g., a variable reached a value 4 in class payer and dispatches an event so main.as can detect it. This doesn't give an error but my code doesnt output I can deect an event in main from classplayer.
I finally got the variable referencing between classes and custom event problems sorted out. Now I got a question regarding the Error #2044 and Error #2035. The error reads like this:
Error #2044: Unhandled IOErrorEvent:. text=Error #2035: URL Not Found.
I've put all the swf in the same directory, so I don't think that is the problem. Could it be that my XML file is in another directory that's causing the problem? I also heard having quotes in the URL in the XML file could also be problematic. Is that true? Here are my AS and my XML file. [code]......
I have 2 custom components, which have their own nesting hierarchy ... One is container for another. I have to "familiarize them" with each other. The way I'm trying to achieve that is using global events (one side is firing and the other one is catching):
Application.application.addEventListener("Hello", function (data:Event):void{ // .. some actions });

Then should be created the connection between container and it's child.
BUT, the only thing I could acheive is passing a reference to the Container in the DynamicEvent. Is there any chance that I could access the child at the event-handler function.

Suppose also that i have a different class, that changes a second variable, which has the metadatatag [Bindable]. What methods and events do i have to implement in either of these classes, to make myVariable change, whenever the other is changend?
I've created a base class to house some basic functions I'd like to have across several movie clips in a game I'm making, however, when I link a custom class to the same movie clip I get the message; "The base class will not be used because the class specified is already defined and extends its own subclass. If you wish to use the base class, specify a class name in the Class field that will be auto-generated or enter the default base class 'flash.display.MovieClip' in the Base Class field." I removed the 'extends MovieClip' inside the Class but it still shows the message. Does this mean that I cannot use a custom class and a custom base class on a movie clip?

Note: The error in my earlier post is giving below error message

The difference here are two things, the earlier error is while converting flash event to custom event and now this one is while converting custom event to flash event and secondly, I have no clue why it is trying to convert to the mouseevent where I am just dispatching my custom event with proper listeners.
See the flash movie on the bottom. That's it. Those are 4 diferent swfs. The problem is, as you could noticed, load time of each other. If you want to ask why the hell you just wount make 1 falsh video, put that white cross on top of it if u like the effect and ur done. But believe me or not I just simply can't. Is ther any posibility to make swfs communicate with each other on server. Let's say... swf 1 don't start till swf 2,3,4 load aswell a.s.o.
I hava a custom component and it contains a child icon. If I add a mouse-click event listener to both component(click-listener1) and icon(click-listener2), the event dispatched sequence is click-listener2, then click-listener1. I can understand it. But if I add a custom event to component (listener1), and mouse-click event to icon(listener2), when icon is clicked, the component will dispatch the custom event. In my test, the event dispatched sequence is listener1, then listener2. It doesn't match with event-bubbles rule.
In my opinion The custom event is dispatched in listener2, which triggers listener1. Why event flow sequence is not listener2, listener1?

i am a bit embarassed to ask this, but i do this so much i have to ask. Occasionally, i need to pass/handle custom events on the fly. Rather than creating a whole custom event class, i will just do something like

But I never see the "game clicked: " trace. Does anybody please know why? I'm probably missing something minor, because I can see the "Clicked: 8946" trace.

I use multiple custom classes like tweenlite, csvparse, papervision and many more. The way I do is put them in one central location and edit Flash CS4 Actionscript 3.0 settings to include that location.The problem I face is even though I don't use all the classes in a project, flash CS4 compiles every single class that is in that central location eventually increasing my compile time by minutes.

I am trying to understand event propagation in Flex framework and have a following doubt on it:
Scenario: I have a built-in component DropDownList on change of which I want to create a custom event refreshPreview and want to propagate it to a custom component PictureComponent.
In the custom component's mxml, I have added the Metadata directive as follows to register a refreshPreview event with the compiler
Layout Details: In my main mxml application I have laid out DropDownList and the custom component such that both are siblings (i.e. have a common indirect parent) e.g.
I am seeing that the refreshPreview event is not getting propagated to the custom component.
I doubt this is because the built-in component is a sibling of the target (where the event got generated) and not a parent. how to make refreshPreview event propagate to custom component?
Is there any way to get a list of custom classes? I'd like to be able to dynamically access the custom classes (that I've created by the "Export for Actionscript" checkbox in the "Linkage" dialog) without having to hard-code their names into the script.
