How do I create a cool effect where when I click on a menu item, the layout chages size according to the size of the content on the page.

I'm using the following code to create a very cool rain effect. Problem is, I only want the rain to last about 10 seconds, then I'd like it to fade away. I can get the background to fade, but the raindrops still appear. How I can accomplish this?

I was taking a look at this site [URL] and really liked the drag functionality to navigate. You can drag up down, left and right. I wanted to try and get the same effect. I would assume creating one big movieclip and adding the drag functionality to that. My concern is that it might not be optimized. Do you think I will need to load content on the fly? Or do you think I will be able to load everything in the initial load and keep it running from there? If there is a specific name for this effect?

I want to reduce the size of Swf using the size mentioned in the object tag of html. Same swf file size can be different for different request.
The problem is this if we reduce the size all control in swf reduced according to the change in swf size. But we want the buttons and one more graphics remain same size for any change in size of swf file. How can we make it ..
i have a large flash game with tons of graphics and music.within the game, i'll only be calling several different movieclips and sounds at a time.. for example, about 20 movieclips and 4 sounds.meanwhile there are about 1000 other movieclips and sounds in RAM waiting to be summoned.does anyone know if all these files in RAM negatively effects the speed and performance of the game? or will flash only pay attention to what's currently employed on the stage?

View 14 RepliesI'm playing around with the scaleX/Y in the canvas tag and have noticed some strange behaviour. When I set scale in in mxml the width and height of the canvas are adjusted accordingly. For example if I have a canvas like this: <mx:Canvas width="1000" height="1000" scaleX="0.1" scaleY="0.1" />
The canvas now appears on screen to have a width and height of 100 and if inside my creationComplete callback I check the width and height property they are indeed 100. But if I do exactly the same thing except I set the scaleX/Y property from actionscript the canvas on screen appears to have a width and height of 100 as expected, but when I check the width and height property of the canvas they are still at the previous values of 1000.

I know I can scale the SWF with HTML/JavaScript, but I'm not talking about scaling here. I want to change the actual size, not just enlarge it visually. Let's say my SWF is 400x300 pixels.
