I would like to know if it is possible to save data from an input text field to a file on my computer, then retrive the data from that file and load it into a dynamic text field. This application is not and will not be on a website of anysort its an experiment in creating a sorta phone book on my computer. I have created 2 input text fields. the first one is where i would enter a persons name, instance name of "_name", the second input text field is where i would enter a phone number, instnace name of "_phone".
Also there is a button with an instance name of "_save", which hopefully will save the data to a txt file on my computer or something, at this point i am up for anything. what I dream of doing is haveing two projectors one for entering the data, and the other for retrieving the data. The second projector, i would like to beable to type in a name or phone number then it would display, load, retrieve the name and phone number from that file storing the data.
In an asc file, I am trying to retrieve some data from a server that uses JSON as its exchange format each time someone connects to a specific application. ( I can't control the exchange format)To do that I send a POST using the sendAndLoad method of a LoadVars ObjectSo far I only managed to get the HTTP header. I originally duplicated a write-to-.txt php script and duplicated it for each of my pages, but for some reason it isn't working out very well as I assume they are fighting with each other. I am looking into creating what I assume is called an array, so that I can store 5 separate data pieces in one text file but I can't seem to find a tutorial that is close to this. the closest I can find is a guestbook tutorial but it is very out of date. I would like to be able to store multi-line text (so that paragraphs and breaks are preserved) from 5 different input boxes and then retrieve that data upon loading of the input boxes and in a different page which would be the actual content of the website.

What I like to do is to get what's in [title] tag using HTTPservice, import it into Flex, and save it as array objects, and do the same thing for [content]. This way I can later refer the array object saying title[0] or content[2].

the dynamic text is initially zero (0) and when i click the button it counts the clicks up to here every thing works right but...when .swf file previewed in html after clicks if refresh is pressed the number is going back to zero.i want to upload this file and use on webpage.

I need to be able to save some data to the SWF itself, NOT to the local computer.
To be more specific, I need to store a set of URL's, but they also need to be added by the file, so...
Lets say i have a button that when you click, will make a text box appear, and you type in some urls such as:

I then have a button that says "Save" and this will save these 3 URL's. I then would have the SAME SWF display these URL's (these will be URLs of Images). The important part is, these 3 URLs MUST BE READ by everyone who views the swf afterwards, so if I were to enter some URLS of Images, when someone else views the page, they will see the images that i entered. This is why it cannot be a cookie, as their computer will not see my cookie.
Even if the data cant be stored in the SWF itself, i will need some way to load this information where ever the swf is viewed.
I have a big dout running in my mind that can we save a xml file from an swf., that is i have done so many projects from which you can read contents from xml but can we write in to xml that is all is my dout.

View 6 RepliesI'm still relatively new to the actionscript 3.0 world. I have been given an assignment to make a drawing program that allows me to do many different things. One of the big things that it needs to do is be able to save a file with the drawing information and still be editable. After much searching I see that you can't just write sprites to a file and then they come back cleanly, obviously returns null. I also don't think that registerClassAlias won't work because I don't think it will allow me to convert things back to a sprite. I keep an array of sprites that allows me to undo/redo, and I originally figured I could either write the arrays or the individual sprites to the file, but that is not allowed either. Does anyone have any idea how I can possibly accomplish saving my drawing document and loading my document with keeping all of my sprites in my array separate from each other?

View 4 RepliesI just started doing AS3 for Flash and I'm trying to create a flash app that has 2 things inside. An InputTextBox which is called txt_userinput and a Button called btn_submit.Bascially, the user just need to type in some word in the InputTextBox and press btn_submit. The data will then be sent to a testing.TXT in my DESKTOP. My .FLA file is in MY DOCUMENTS while the testing.TXT is in my DESKTOP.
Question 1: Question is, how do I make the data from txt_userinput to be sent to the .TXT in my DESKTOP?For example, the user typed "Hello, how are you?" in the InputTextBox. In the .TXT file, I want it to show "Hello, how are you?".
PS: testing.TXT file is already created in the desktop, just waiting for flash to write the data in and keeps on adding more data in the future in the following format.

I am trying to access data from an array. The array is in the root and I am trying to get it's data into a submovie. In as2 it would have been:
mylabel.text = _root.myarray[1];
So, i have tried:
mylabel.text = root.myarray[1];
and
mylabel.text = (this.root as Array).myarray[1];
and tons of other configurations.. I get the 1119 error no matter what i do. I am beginning to think I just can't get the info from the array in a sub movie..
How do we retrieve data in a webpage for comparasion? I need to do this because I dont have complete control or curtain aspects and need to change menu tilte data ( French or English ) depending on what the Webpage Title data is displayed. I have serverside code in the title eg.{title} that will start with either "Welcome" or "Bienvenue".

here's the thing, i need to store different values in a 2d array (or something conceptually similar). The idea is to create a 2d map with tiles and the array would save the ID of every tile in the map. I'm trying to create something mildly efficient, specially because i need to save some memory usage for later use (it has to do with AI) and it must run on a low end PC, but simply creating an array seems to be a waste of space since i only have about 50 different IDs at any given map.i thought about creating a 2d array of 8bit chars would be sufficient, but that's out of the question with actionscript 3, it doesn't have 8bit char data type.
