What I like to do is to get what's in [title] tag using HTTPservice, import it into Flex, and save it as array objects, and do the same thing for [content]. This way I can later refer the array object saying title[0] or content[2].

ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash - Keep Animation Running While Receiving Large Data File?
Feb 3, 2011I'm developing a web application with Flash CS5 and AS3.0. The problem I'm having is this:At a certain state, the application goes to a frame with a "loading..." animation that loops continuously until the next state is reached. The animation is inside a MovieClip that lives on this frame on the stage (I'm not creating or animating it dynamically). While in this state, the app is waiting to receive a large xml file from an XmlSocket connection. The file takes a few seconds (literally - not milliseconds) to be received fully by the Flash player, and during this time the loading animation stops. I believe the socket is blocking the animation thread until it's done receiving the entire file.Does anyone know of a workaround that would allow the animation to keep playing while the socket is receiving? I've seen pseudo-threading hacks, but those always deal with computations or other activities that can be accomplished by calling a call-back function multiple times. Since I'm just listening on an open socket, there's no callback I could pass to a pseudo-thread.

Jul 5, 2011there are 2 items on stage, one is the "button" with instance name myButton and a dynamic text field.so the action script goes this way...

the dynamic text is initially zero (0) and when i click the button it counts the clicks up to here every thing works right but...when .swf file previewed in html after clicks if refresh is pressed the number is going back to zero.i want to upload this file and use on webpage.
Professional :: Save Data Inside The SWF File?
Aug 28, 2010As part of a project I am working on, I would like to know if it would be possible to store some data in the actual flash file.
Let me make this clear now... I DO NOT WANT TO USE COOKIES!
I need to be able to save some data to the SWF itself, NOT to the local computer.
To be more specific, I need to store a set of URL's, but they also need to be added by the file, so...
Lets say i have a button that when you click, will make a text box appear, and you type in some urls such as:
[URL]
I then have a button that says "Save" and this will save these 3 URL's. I then would have the SAME SWF display these URL's (these will be URLs of Images). The important part is, these 3 URLs MUST BE READ by everyone who views the swf afterwards, so if I were to enter some URLS of Images, when someone else views the page, they will see the images that i entered. This is why it cannot be a cookie, as their computer will not see my cookie.
Even if the data cant be stored in the SWF itself, i will need some way to load this information where ever the swf is viewed.

But after looking into it, it seems it's complicated saving a simple .txt file because of security, and the tutorials I have tried to use, using PHP to do it, have not worked, not even the excercise files. So I was wondering if anyone have either a working tutorial or code to save a simple string in a txt file, or know another way of saving data remotely?

Feb 27, 2010I'm still relatively new to the actionscript 3.0 world. I have been given an assignment to make a drawing program that allows me to do many different things. One of the big things that it needs to do is be able to save a file with the drawing information and still be editable. After much searching I see that you can't just write sprites to a file and then they come back cleanly, obviously returns null. I also don't think that registerClassAlias won't work because I don't think it will allow me to convert things back to a sprite. I keep an array of sprites that allows me to undo/redo, and I originally figured I could either write the arrays or the individual sprites to the file, but that is not allowed either. Does anyone have any idea how I can possibly accomplish saving my drawing document and loading my document with keeping all of my sprites in my array separate from each other?

Dec 11, 2009step1- I got an xml that is locally loaded(works fine)
step2- the content goes into a datagrid that is displayed (works fine)
step3- In AS3 I dynamically add some lines to this xml file(works fine)
step4- I save it locally (works fine)
step5-and want the datagrid to be updated..(works not-so-well)
So, in step 4, the data is saved into the xml file, but in order to finish the save, the user has to click on the "Save as" windows in order to have the file updated of course.. and that's where's my problem, how can i tell flash to wait till the user actually saves the file, before reload the xml file in the datagrid ? here's the code :

I've used Authowrware previously and it was quite easy to create a large string of data (a comma separated list) and export that to a text file (and create the text file if it didn't already exist). I could then easily append additional rows of data (records) to the text file. We want to build a questionnaire that will store the data locally on the computer in a text file. Each record may have a few hundred data points in a comma separated list.

Problem:When saving the file, the "Save As Filetype" drop down is empty and end users can accidentally delete the swf file extension in the filename.How can we lock down the extension so it will always have SWF in the extension?
Technique 1? Set "Save As Filetype" to SWF by default.
Technique 2? Click "Publish as Flash". User specifies the filename. File is saved on the server. User presented with prompt to download file. File is downloaded from the server using the traditional browser windows explorer dialog box (the same dialog box if I downloaded a program from cnet's downloads.com)

I am developing a online game with flash mx , MS SQL 2000 and asp. The problem is I send the data using sendAndLoad method to asp file and get data back from asp file. But when the internet connection is not good there is a problem like jam or lost packets. How can I prevent the lost of packets. Some of the data are important. Is there any way to solve this?

1) Load XML
2) Append to XML
3) Save XML using PHP
Well, why when I load the same XML file does it read the file without the appendend nodes I just added?I can open the XML file in Dreamweaver and see the appended nodes, but once I load the XML back into the .SWF, it clears the appended nodes and only reads the original nodes again..[code]My .swf is local at this point and PHP and XML files are on a server running PHP5.Apparently the PHP script is correct because it DOES save the file correctly. I can save as many <persons /> as I want. But when I close the Flash .swf the URLLoader reads the original XML data again. Not sure how that's possible?When I change the location of the XML to load into the URLLoader it changes so I know it's reading the same file I saved to..

The problem comes to when i want to update the XML file. how do i do that automatically without prompting the user (ofcourse). I want it to be saved automatically to the same directory as the flash file.
