Dec 9, 2010Is it possible to use AS3 to create and save a swf file automatically?By this I mean that I have a folder of images (100+ sequential images) which form a full animation sequence. I could import the sequence directly and use the IDE to do it - but I have 100+ folders so that not really an option!
So as a theory, could it be possible to create an app that inputs the parent directory, reads through the folder, imports each image onto its own frame and exports the swf to a designated area?Its possible using php but MING is unreliable and wont precess interlaced jpg file and other swflib functions are quite poor.

Problem: When saving the file, the "Save As Filetype" drop down is empty and end users can accidentally delete the swf file extension in the filename.How can we lock down the extension so it will always have SWF in the extension?
Technique 1? Set "Save As Filetype" to SWF by default.
Technique 2? Click "Publish as Flash".User specifies the filename.File is saved on the server. User presented with prompt to download file. File is downloaded from the server using the traditional browser windows explorer dialog box (the same dialog box if I downloaded a program from cnet's [url]...........)

Jul 28, 2005I'm developing Flash for a CD.I want to create a button for the user to click and then have a choice to save or open file (like PDF or Word file).
i have the following code:

I can't see anything wrong with the above. I intend to use the code for a CD ROM.abc.doc will sit on the CD ROM. When I click on the button, it opens a browser window and tries to go to google.com.I had it working the other day.

Dec 11, 2009step1- I got an xml that is locally loaded(works fine)
step2- the content goes into a datagrid that is displayed (works fine)
step3- In AS3 I dynamically add some lines to this xml file(works fine)
step4- I save it locally (works fine)
step5-and want the datagrid to be updated..(works not-so-well)
So, in step 4, the data is saved into the xml file, but in order to finish the save, the user has to click on the "Save as" windows in order to have the file updated of course.. and that's where's my problem, how can i tell flash to wait till the user actually saves the file, before reload the xml file in the datagrid ? here's the code :

another thing: When im doing a video and work with things that are outside of my white document (in the gray area) for instance things that are to be faded into the document and so on. These things also show up in outside of my video when i view it in my browser.

ActionScript 3.0 :: XML File Reverts To Original File After Save
Apr 5, 2011I'm working with a little bit of XML and have questions, first here are my steps:
1) Load XML
2) Append to XML
3) Save XML using PHP
Well, why when I load the same XML file does it read the file without the appendend nodes I just added?I can open the XML file in Dreamweaver and see the appended nodes, but once I load the XML back into the .SWF, it clears the appended nodes and only reads the original nodes again..[code]My .swf is local at this point and PHP and XML files are on a server running PHP5.Apparently the PHP script is correct because it DOES save the file correctly. I can save as many <persons /> as I want. But when I close the Flash .swf the URLLoader reads the original XML data again. Not sure how that's possible?When I change the location of the XML to load into the URLLoader it changes so I know it's reading the same file I saved to..

The problem comes to when i want to update the XML file. how do i do that automatically without prompting the user (ofcourse). May 6, 2011I just started doing AS3 for Flash and I'm trying to create a flash app that has 2 things inside. An InputTextBox which is called txt_userinput and a Button called btn_submit.Bascially, the user just need to type in some word in the InputTextBox and press btn_submit. The data will then be sent to a testing.TXT in my DESKTOP. My .FLA file is in MY DOCUMENTS while the testing.TXT is in my DESKTOP.
Question 1: Question is, how do I make the data from txt_userinput to be sent to the .TXT in my DESKTOP?For example, the user typed "Hello, how are you?" in the InputTextBox. In the .TXT file, I want it to show "Hello, how are you?".
PS: testing.TXT file is already created in the desktop, just waiting for flash to write the data in and keeps on adding more data in the future in the following format.

Jan 18, 2011Having got into flash about a year ago, I have a fairly good understanding of as3, but I have never had any reason to learn as2. For an upcoming project, we were looking to use Scaleform GFx, with the UDK. (Unreal Development Kit) Trouble is, Scaleform only supports as2. From what I've been told, as3 is supposed to be better in just about every way, so I really don't want to learn a language that?s most likely on the way out, if I have any other options.
Is there any converters out there, that can convert script from as3 to as2? Or another workaround possibility, since flash communicates with the UDK by means of just calling a function, could I create an as2 file that could dynamically load an as3 file?

Oct 14, 2009I asked this earlier but maybe I didn't give enough information. I am working on a website where video quality is very important and the client is delivering me the video already compressed. I then want to import it to flash CS3 and export it as .flv for progressive download with the media playback component. I have done all of this successfully in a sense that it all works but the video quality is not good enough, it's good but the client says it;s a bit grainy. I used the highest setting in Flash, on2 vp6 at 700kbs.
My question is what is the best file format (.mov etc) and what settings should the client use, so I can create the highest quality .flv export from their .mov file? Second question, I used an 8 second buffer but now the client is saying they don't want it to buffer at all. What are the other options besides progressive download, I have never delved into this before?

It says "Be sure the destination file is not locked or on a locked drive. Also, check that the file name is not too long. I checked the files and neither the destination file nor the drive locked. The file is named index and always has been named that. What am I doing wrong?
