ActionScript 3.0 :: Create A .AS File And Define Constants Inside Of That File?

Is it possible to just create a .AS file and define constants inside of that file? Without making a new class, just so that all my classes can access these constants? This is of course possible in PHP, but are the scopes handled differently in AS3?
i) Create a symbol called SimpleSquare. This should consist of a simple red square graphic
ii) Create a class file to define a class called SimpleSquare. This should be linked to the SimpleSquare symbol. SimpleSquare ashould have the following functionality: When the instance is placed on the Stage, it should start to disappear by decreasing its alpha at 0.01 in every frame (hint: alpha)
We can auto-generate flex-confix xml file from flash-builder so to provide users that want to compile project on there own would be capable of doing such thing with out buying FB. So we use something like -dump-config slotConfig.xml as flex compiler argment. This generates a file for us... with lots of detailed comments like this one I generated from that project:
Im pretty new with the flash -> php -> mysql thing .. And I have made a script that sends some variables (that a user inserts in some input forms) with some var names, and then php handles it and insert it into my MySQL database its kinda ugly that a page pops up and opens the php page.So I was wonderin' if there is some way to send the variables to the php file and process them inside the flash file. without openin' some fancy browser window ?
However, since I start only to work with flash, I do not have any idea how to change this script that he is reading for example the content of file album.txt and put the content into the variable HardCodeXml.[code]...

Say I have an image. We'll call it "vectorman". It is a liner gardient in flash that has say "f5f5f5" as the top color and a gradient down to "ff9900". I then turn "vectorman" into a graphic, then into a movie. Now he sits on the main stage with the same colors all the time... poor vectorman. I would like the ability to control those 2 colors of vectorman via an XML file.
I know XML can control css and dynamic text fields, but how do I control the color of an graphic?
The navigation on a website I am designing is an swf file embedded inside another swf file, the latter being the body of the site. The navigation buttons are themselves embedded inside movie clips inside the embedded swf file...
I'm sure I'm missing some sort of line of programming, however my actionscript skills are rudimentary at best. I have assigned a simple goto webpage behavior on each of the buttons. However, when I look at the site all put together, they do not work.
I want to list about ten videoclips (all mov-files) on my webpage and when i put my mouse over a clip it should start playing - when i remove the mouse from the clip, it stops. My idea was to use a swf-file that i can trigger using a URL like this: preview.swf?path=movies/movie1.mov
1. How do make my swf-file aware of the URL and then play the right file?
2. When the mouse is not over any videoclip i would like have the first frame of the mov-file shown - is this possible or do i need to make screenshots from all the mov-files then?
I have downloaded a template from [url].... And there is a xml gallery for images. I want to use my movie in swf instead of one single image from slide show.[code]...
Having got into flash about a year ago, I have a fairly good understanding of as3, but I have never had any reason to learn as2. For an upcoming project, we were looking to use Scaleform GFx, with the UDK. (Unreal Development Kit) Trouble is, Scaleform only supports as2. From what I've been told, as3 is supposed to be better in just about every way, so I really don't want to learn a language that?s most likely on the way out, if I have any other options.
Is there any converters out there, that can convert script from as3 to as2? Or another workaround possibility, since flash communicates with the UDK by means of just calling a function, could I create an as2 file that could dynamically load an as3 file?
I asked this earlier but maybe I didn't give enough information. I am working on a website where video quality is very important and the client is delivering me the video already compressed. I then want to import it to flash CS3 and export it as .flv for progressive download with the media playback component. I have done all of this successfully in a sense that it all works but the video quality is not good enough, it's good but the client says it;s a bit grainy. I used the highest setting in Flash, on2 vp6 at 700kbs.
My question is what is the best file format (.mov etc) and what settings should the client use, so I can create the highest quality .flv export from their .mov file? Second question, I used an 8 second buffer but now the client is saying they don't want it to buffer at all. What are the other options besides progressive download, I have never delved into this before?
For some reason I am unable to create a FLV file from a MP4 file with high bitrate. I even created a custom setting and specified bitrate as 2500 but the output file is always around 775.

i'm loading some data from an xml-file and dynamically create movieclips with textfields inside of them, but I'm kinda stuck. I'm not up to the point where I completely understand how you can refer to a nested object using this syntax: _root[movieClipName]. If you want to nest something inside of that movieclip, you have to work like this:
I am trying to create a swf file from my original file. I have published swf files before from this file but all of a sudden I get a error. It says "Be sure the destination file is not locked or on a locked drive. Also, check that the file name is not too long. I checked the files and neither the destination file nor the drive locked. The file is named index and always has been named that. What am I doing wrong?
I'm having a little issue understanding scoping in this package environment. My question is this: Is it possible to declare globally visible variables and constants? I tried this with no successful results:
now how do i make the movie clip to first go from frame 1 to 10( last frame in teh movieclip) with the text time and then when the movie clip starts again it should say place and so on and so forth.. depending on how many textline variables i define in the text file?
I have value object that one of its field is meant to be filled trough a dropdown chooser. I'm very new to flex so I'm not sure what is the best way to maintain this field.
Should I make it a simple string in the value object and a table in the DB, and each time I have the dropdown to send a request to read it from the DB? That what I would have done with JS but in flash I thinkl it might be better to somehow keep that information in the flex app instead of keep asking the server to send the names every time.
The field has about six options and it is choosing htat field happens a lot during work with the app.
How can I define Movie Clip inside symbol from the library?e.g. if i have symbol of enemy and i want that enemy follow movie clip has instance name HERO_MC.and i have hundreds of enemies want to kill the HERO_MC after chasing and i don't want to write the code in main time line frame and add loops so i want to writing the code inside the symbol of enemy in library but the problem is i don't know how to define Movie Clip "HERO_MC" inside symbol of enemy!
I'm looking for method to create Vector and push some values without defining variable Vector. For example:I have function:

I can't seem to remove / unload the external swf files e.g when the carousel.swf (portfolio) is displayed and I press the about button the about content is overlapping the carousel (portfolio) . How can I remove / unload an external swf file from the main flash file and load a new swf file, while at the same time removing garbage collection from memory?
I am trying to write a class file using a .as file instead of writing code into the script tab of a .fla file.When I write stage.addChild(img); I get an error that stage is null. When I take out stage, and just write addChild(img); the code runs fine, but nothing appears on stage. Do I need to do something to set a stage active?
Is this because I don't have a Main class? My class is named after the file and I don't have a file named Main.Here is the code. As it is, it runs and I get the two trace outputs, but no graphic on my screen.

is there anyway to create and define a variable in a child from the parent? For example, if I add a child to the stage with code, and then want to be able to say
child.variable=0
to create a variable in the child and be able to edit and read the variable. I know the above code is way off but it's just to kinda get the point through.I have to define the variable this way.
I've published this small swf file and it plays allright when I preview it but when I insert it in an html page (DW) it just won't play.
I won't attach the swf this time because I suspect that is why this same post I placed here yesterday never got listed but in any case I think the problem is not with the file itself but perhaps something in DW that I'm not handling well. I inserted it in a div btw via the flash option in the insert menu.
Are there any software that will convert Word documents or pdf into swf files that ca be displayed inside of a Flash movie. Currently, I am using FlashPaper but the software is not supported anymore by Adobe. I am creating eLearning courses and having a pdf open inside of a course without opening multiple makes for a better learning experience.
