ActionScript 3.0 :: Remove / Unload External Swf File(s) From The Main Flash File And Load A New Swf File And Garbage Collection From Memory?
Sep 12, 2009
I can't seem to remove / unload the external swf files e.g when the carousel.swf (portfolio) is displayed and I press the about button the about content is overlapping the carousel (portfolio) . How can I remove / unload an external swf file from the main flash file and load a new swf file, while at the same time removing garbage collection from memory?
i have a question. let say i have file1.swf , file2.swf, and file3.swf, how can i link this 3 files together,let say suppose file1.swf is the main content file, but as i load file2.swf, i want the file1.swf get replaced by file2.swf. How could i unload file1.swf at that time, so that my file2.swf will become the main content file?and again, when my current position at file2.swf, and i want it get replaced by file3.swf by clink on a button. so that the i can unload the file2.swf and let the file3.swf become the main content file.
I have a menu and each button reveals a hidden layer which includes it's submenu (another swf).The submenus have sub-submenus in the same swf.When I take the mouse away from these layers the submenus hide again.All these work.The problem is that when a sub-submenu is opened and then the layer hides, when it's shown again the sub-submenu is still opened.Is there a way to clear memory or unload a swf file through html or through the main menu swf?
This blog (and others) state that you should set object references to null inside your dispose() methods when cleaning up objects. However, Actionscript 3 (with Flash Player 9) uses mark and sweep to clear out circular references for you. So I am wondering: is there really any reason to null out your object references?
i have 2 flash file,one is mine (the main container) and one is a external swf.i want to load the external swf to my container swf.i write this code in my as2 container code inside the main timeline flash (mine flash) -----first of all i add a movie clip with instance name mc1 to the first layer
i really try to use that code - BUT !!! -> if i use this code the external swf predominant my main swf code and all the rest of my code dosent work (like timer of trace)....

I'm actually creating a pretty simple banner that needs to stay under 40k size. I'm trying to load and unload an external .swf to my main swf file. So far, I only managed to load my external .swf, without finding a way to make it appear and disappear at specific frames (the external .swf shows up directly at frame 1, then when the animation loops over, it stacks over and over).
I read some things about onEnterFrame and counters but still wasn't able to solve my issue.
Here's my actual code. It makes the "horse.swf" file (located in the same folder as my main swf) fades in into my main swf after it has been loaded.
By the way, I used The LoaderMax system from greensock. because it seemed lighter and easier to manage than the native Adobe Loader one.
All I'm trying to do is load an external .swf file into a precise location on the stage of my existing Flash file. I've spent an hour and a half on this site search and found nothing. What do I add to my loadMovie command to place the file at specific x,y coordinates?
i want to load variable from text file to my main movie (swf file).what should i put in the second parameter of the function loadVariables ("target" parameter) - should i insert _this? _parent? _global? (nothing works.
I'm creating a flash 3d website for a company. The idea is that there is one overall swf file - this holds the navigation and design. Once the user clicks on a button, it goes to frame 10, I have included the following script to load a swf file
the preloader works, but instead of going to frame 2 of that swf file, it goes to frame 2 of the overall swf that holds the navigation. Does anyone know how to get around this so that it goes to frame 2 in the same swf file as the preloader?
I have a video in .flv format that I have converted into .swf. And this .swf file, I have added it in into my main flash file by using Loader. And now, I want to detect when this video will finish playing so that I can go to the next frame which is not looping the video again and again.
I am using preloader from the main swf file to load other swf file, if i use a preloader inside my other swf file then it wont show so sorting that problem I am referencing this nice material on preloaders [] I have sorted the preloader problem by calling the preloader from the main swf file and hiding the other swf file till its fully downloaded. but now the problem is I have got no functionality from that swf file, i mean i have got that mouse effect in the other swf file that where ever you move the mouse in the screen the showreel adjusts itself but its static now.
I have got this container mc in my main swf file, and i am using the other swf file by clicking the button, the swf file loads in the container mc after showing the preloader but its kind a static.
I can load the image by pressing the green button (see attached file). However, How do I UNLOAD the same image by clicking onto the image, rather than adding another button on my main flash file. This means that as soon as the image is loaded, the user can click on the same image to unload it.
I'm trying to get a swf file to play in a main swf file. I can get it to play, but it always appears in the top left corner. I've tried several different methods to position it but every one of them either doesn't work or won't play the file.Here's what I'm using right now.
The swf plays just fine, but it won't take the coordinates.I also need to get it to stop when I go back and the command
Actionscript Code: unloadMovieNum(circles.swf);
doesn't work.A tutor in my class showed me a method to place the swf into a box on the main stage without doing a lot of scripting, just putting in some file-name and size/position references, but he's not available right now to ask how he got that started.
So, I am tryig to load text from the loaded xml file on the main.swf and target a text field in another loaded swf filemain.swf loads xml and loads external content.swf trying something like this:
function showPage() { stopAllSounds(); _level0.ui.content_area.content.loadMovie("content/" +
I have done a lot of searching / reading to find out how to clear my memory. But I still can't really work out how to clear the memory, it just never seems to come down. I have a few MovieClips that contain other MovieClips with pngs inside them being added to the stage.
As fare as I can tell all Event listeners are removed and refrences I remove the clip, with removeChild I "null" the variable I am using the "LocalConnection()" hack to try and force a clean up, but no movement on the memory count. Are there any examples of a *.png being added and removed from the memory?
I am concerned about the garbage collection in my projects. Whatever dynamic memory i am allocating, never seems to free up and it just keeps adding (i check in Windows Task Manager). e.g. I am adding bricks (movie clip) this way:
In AS3, after I've removed a display object container B from another display object container A and deleted all the references to B in A, does that mean that all memories previously held in B will all be released too or do I have to manually delete all the references to objects in B before I can delete B in A in order to free all the memory space held?One more question. I was kind of confused of when to use the delete statement and when to set a variable to null.
I load external swf file into main movie. and i give that child a name page0 there is a bit of code.
[Code]....
so after its loaded i want to insert some text into external swf using main movie. i managed to remove external swf, like this ActionScript Code: holder_mc0.removeChild(holder_mc0.getChildByName("pages0")); but i wonder how to insert text into that swf. i don't understand how hierarchy works, when you addChild, what name should i use for my external files. for example ActionScript Code: holder_mc0. ?????? .mainTemplate.tContent.text = "TEXT"
I wanna know if it is possible to load an SWF file, from a main swf file, but OUTSIDE of it. What I mean to say is, to open it as it was a completely different thing.. like, for example, when you click a link of a video on a website and it automatically brings up your windows media player.. i dont wanna load the swf inside the main swf, I want another flash player to pop-up and play it separately..
i have banner with 5 images fad in fade out effecti need to load images & test from external file " text file or xml file " with keeping fade effects on imagesall ways i know can't keep fading effect on images so
i have a button that when it is pressed plays and loads an external flv file. this part works fine but directly after the flv video is finnished i want to load in an swf file. does some one have an idea how to do this? first show flv and then load swf? this is the code as it looks now..
i'm building a website using flash. i have a external swf file that i want to import into my website. i thought this would be an easy task but for some reason when i load the movie, it flickers. my website (parent swf) was build using 1.0. The external form swf was build using 3.0. My approach:
1.create an empty movie clip called mcForm
2.go to the mc clip page i want to pull the external movie into
3. within my actions layer, I call the following function loadMovie("main.swf", mcForm);
If i write:
LoadMovieNum("main.swf",0);
then the my main.swf opens correctly but closes the parent swf file. I wan the main.swf file to be embeded within the parent file.
i want to know what types of objects should be removed for garbage collection? i m working on a bit long project. i've made it in flash application. i've 5 frames. each frame contains scripts. i've declared public variables as well as private and local. obviously assigned some eventlistener and so.. while moving from one frame to another, i want to remove unnecessary objects to garbage collection.whatever i understood, i nullified all the public variables and removed all the public eventlisteners (eventListeners which are in functions, I believe those can only be removed within that function). Objects (incl movieclips and all these) which were added dynamically, i removed them using removeChild() method..
how to pass variables from one Movie clip's AS file to my Main AS file. Let say my Movieclip's AS file is calling damage = 1; so how the Main AS file retrieve the damage value from the Movieclip's AS?
Code: public class robotMC extends MovieClip { public function robotMC() {
Is there a way to extract a single file from a zip file in Adobe AIR?
I'm using NoChumps zip library to extract files from a zip. In this library the entire IDataStream is loaded into memory and after that you can extract file entries easily. In cases where the zip is 5 to 10MB there are no problems. But when the zip is 80MB, which many are, 80MB is loaded into memory. This causes the app to crash and run slow on mobile devices. According to the zip specification,
"A ZIP file is identified by the presence of a central directory located at the end of the file, this allows appending of new files. The directory stores a list of the names of the entries (files or directories) stored in the ZIP file, along with other metadata about the entry, and an offset into the ZIP file, pointing to the actual entry data."
Also, I do not have control of the size of zip files but most average is 60 to 100MB. Files inside are ~4MB.
ActionScript Code: var clip:Sprite = new Sprite(); clip.name = "clip" addChild(clip); cleanup(clip) function cleanup(mc):void { mc.parent.removeChild(mc); mc = null trace(clip) // clip is removed from stage but traces as [object Sprite]. It still exists! }
How would I pass a MovieClip/Sprite/TextField through this function and remove it entirely?
I loaded an external SWF file, now I need to understand how to unload the external SWF file. Is it possible to add the code to the last frame of the external SWFs internal timeline, so when it exits the last frame, it unloads itself.The script to load the SWF is below. Can I add the unload code to the last frame of timeline of the SWF?[code]
I'm developing a simple Flash application which has only one SWF file. I want the SWF movie to start playing asap so I don't build a preloader for it. What happen if my actionscript code refers to resources which haven't been loaded yet? For example, the code cause the playhead to jump from frame 1 to frame 20 when the movie has just been loaded up to frame 10. In that case, flash player will? Block the script execution, stop playing, continue loading from frame 11 to 20 (without executing script), jump to frame 20 and invoke script at that frame when it's loaded?
Block the script execution, stop playing, ignore loading frame 11 to 19, load frame 20, jump to frame 20 and invoke script at that frame? Ignore jumping to frame 20, continue executing next statements after the go to frame 20 statement? Or anything else? If flash player doesn't ignore jumping to frame 20, any event is triggered when frame 20 is loaded completely? Note: Answers for the first question should focus on my example, cover all circumstances (such as attach movie from library...)
